In fairness, I don't see a way out of it. 400m guns in circulation...even with a buyback scheme and more stringent laws on new legal purchases - or even a complete ban on new purchases (which will never happen) - you're never putting that genie back in the bottle.
Why not just stop stores from selling guns and ammunition, or how about making it so that every individual bullet is $20,000, do of you wanted a full round, that would be a hefty sum of money.

There are some people who deserve a far worse punishment than death.
An officer in every school doesn't even fecking matter. Like there's never been a school shooting at a school with an SRO.
You could argue a lot of points about why this is a trend but the primary factor is the 30 round magazine offers the most destructive power.
The US needs total population licensing, background checks, daily verification, wait times for purchases, magazine limits, storage rules now. None of these infringe on the 2nd amendment. If you're a good citizen they are a minor inconvenience but you're still able to keep and bear arms, responsibly.

Honestly they all seem insane to me, what about going to school without no guards and guns around, overall I feel more secure when there aren't armed people around at least that's how it was when I went to elementary school. Next thing they might suggest is to make the students wear body armor, or better yet arm them so they can kill an intruder.

It took two minutes to reload a flintlock musket when the 2A was ratified. Muskets were the weapons of infantry, the only advantage the government had was cannons. Both are obsolete now obviously.
Even if a militia was kitted out with the best weaponry they could gather today, it would still take the modern military less than an hour to obliterate them.
The 2A has been thoroughly perverted to maintain the status quo.
Don't disagree with you, back then you could see the reasoning behind it to solidify the nation state, but now it's just pointless.

Some analyst/politician was on MSNBC last night discussing the second amendment was written before the modern bullet existed. Small lead balls/pellets were used in that era. The person said he doubts this particular amendment would have been written the way it was and so vague if high-projectile instruments like an AR-15 or M-4 had existed. That and we did not have the uniformed services like we see today so the militia was necessary to national/state defense.

I always found it funny how terribly written that sentence is. The commas are just all over the place and as a result you can interpret it in about half a dozen different ways.
I was going to end my comment with "words are cheap" but didn't think it was needed in the circumstances.
The gun manufacturers / distributors / industry should be heavily taxed, to the extreme. The government should put the responsibility on them to clean up the problem, in the same way that car companies have been forced into safety initiatives. I know the examples are polar opposites but the concepts are similar and could be applied in similar ways.
