I didn't watch him enough to form an opinion. But if ETH wants to sign him, i have no questions to ask. Because the comments here claiming he is average or a donkey are not reliable. I saw many cases of players that i watch every week, then i read some absurd opinions about them here, that its crystal clear to me that a lot of people decide what is the level of players without even watching them.

What gives you so much confidence in ETH's recruitment ability?

I'd rather we sign a CF suited to possesion football tbh. Too many red flags going by the break down of his skill set.

We need more attacking threat, but it is bizarre that he seems to be all we’re linked to. Hopefully the club is just being a bit more hidden with its activity.

We're focusing on the De Jong transfer, so we're unlikely to hear about any forward targets until we start negotiations for one of them

I don't get the scepticism with this signing. This is the type of CF ETH gets 30 goals out of.

Did you not see what he done to Haller ?

A possession based side will work whether they have a CF that is good at build up play or not.

Did Aguero effect City's ability to play football? how about Barca with Messi literally walk around the pitch until he got the ball in the final third.

Teams rarely actually use a striker to build up play at all, if anything that's more of a direct style of long ball football.

Who else is even available that is 'good enough'? people keep saying Nkunku but he will be even more expensive + no guarantee he will be any better. We saw with Sancho a player can look a star in the Bundesliga but look fairly average in the PL.

Whether Nunez will cut it here or not is impossible to say until it happens, but he has the size, the work rate and the movement to do well here.

Unfortunately people need to get it through their heads that we are a 6th placed team in the Europa league. We aren't shopping for Lewandowski or Benzema anymore.

Aguero was really good on the ball. Not as good as his potential as a teenager suggested, but to pretend he wasn't used in the buildup play is simply wrong. And Messi is more involved in the buildup than any attacker in world football. You're making a point using examples that don't suit it.

Also City signed Haaland, he isn't someone who averages lot of passes in build up or has high pass completion player. It's all about tactical set up and different ways to hurt the teams.

p.s I know comparing Haaland is extreme but Pep is also extreme manager in controlling the game with possession system where everyone is very good with the ball and in tight space.

When spending 60m you need to get it right. The last thing we need is a player with a shit touch who can't control the ball. I don't know near enough about Nunez but if he has a similar touch to Lukaku then no thanks.

I can't get behind spending big money on a player who is this rough technically, he's just not my cup of tea. I was against the Lukaku signing from day one despite people trying to convince me otherwise. Ten Hag coming in was supposed to signal a move toward prioritising more technical football and players, Nunez would be a move in the opposite direction.

Aguero wasn’t bad but he certainly wasn’t great. He was rarely involved in build up play at all. In and around the box sure, but that’s no different than any normal striker.

There is a reason why he got dropped for Jesus for a while!

Messi didn’t get involved in the game until his team had strong possession already, that’s the point. He would only drop into midfield when the wide forwards were in a good position.

It didn't stop them having 60/70% possession in every match, because possession comes from goalkeeper/defenders/midfielders being comfortable on the ball and moving themselves and the ball quickly.

They could throw Nunez into that Barca side and it wouldn't make much difference IMO.

Also City signed Haaland, he isn't someone who averages lot of passes in build up or has high pass completion player. It's all about tactical set up and different ways to hurt the teams.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see how he fares, but I think it's safe to say he will get plenty of chances and score a shit tonne.

Yeah, he will score shit loads of goals.

Also looks like this is one more typical Portuguese transfer where you get so much news on player and barely anything happens.

These 2 minute videos showing every bad touch should be banned, what's the point of them? You can make the same video of any player in world football, yet people take them seriously as some sort of scouting report on the player. There was one of Timber too. Ridiculous.

I would really hope so. We need to be looking at up and coming young players who we can get for bargain prices, as we don't have a big enough budget for the 5/6 players that we need.

Aguero was already there scoring 20 goals I season. We are buying someone into the team. You‘d think we’d try and get it right first time.

He’s too much of a raw talent.

We're in that weird flux where Ronaldo is obviously still good enough to be our starting no.9 but owing to his age cannot play every single fixture. But I actually don't see how signing Nunez for a massive sum fixes much, we would not be signing him to bench warm most of the time, and I don't see how he and Ronaldo fit playing together in a 2 (and still fit in players like Sancho/Fernandes etc).

I think what we actually need is a versatile wide attacker who can play as a striker when needed. We basically need a replacement for MG11. That profile in the team (especially playing from the right) is a massive miss.

Someone with the profile of Nunez would be a season too soon, Ronaldo isn't going anywhere for another 12 months. Otherwise, signing a striker who's sort of there to just 'compete' with the current no.9 doesn't really work properly. Reminds me a bit of how Spurs cycled through Kane substitutes (Vinicius; Llorente; Janssen and so on...).

Richarlison is that profile. The transfer committee needs to push forward with their option.

Definitely a possibility, I just think Everton will command too much money for him (probably the same amount that Benfica want for Nunez) for him to be a viable option. Plus I think he's another one that prefers to play on the left over the right, annoyingly!

Everton need to recoup some money this summer and they don’t really have much bargaining if the market suggest him and DCL only collect £50m. Your right he prefers the left but like Nkunku he can operate on both sides. Mainly plays on the right for Brazil if he’s not the 9. For obvious reasons.

I’m in agreement with this. Focus on other positions and get a back up striker. Play Bruno as a false nine when Ronny needs a rest. Spending £60-80m on a prospect from Portugal seems mad to me, when we need 6 players on a low budget. Even more so if we end up signing De Jong for big money.

One way to look at it is, if Liverpool want him then we must sign him! Not only to stop them from getting stronger but also they usually get there targets and players spot on.

Salah and Mane are probably gone next season. Are you really confident Jota, Diaz and say for instance Nunez are really what’s going to keep them where they are?

I’d be happy if that’s the face of their new rebuild. Plus in all honestly what suits them doesn’t translate into what would suit us. I can see Nunez replacing Salah, they seem similar in technical ability.

Isn’t he abit like Haaland in terms of build up/hold up play, inconsistent ball control and superb goalscoring ability or am i underrating Haaland’s general play? We aren’t getting Haaland so why not get the next better one?

Both Simon Hughes and Paul Joyce have said we're in for him but only at the right price. So I'd say that makes it pretty definite that we want him and are likely to be priced out if someone actually meets Benfica's inflated asking price.

We basically have to sign a striker ignoring the fact that Ronaldo is around as he's only here for a year or two and hasn't got the legs to press etc If we can't risk upsetting him or he can't rotate then we may as well just sign some bit part mediocre CF who will give us an option. But I'd prefer we really bring in someone who can be a first choice 9 next season. Otherwise we'll just be saddled with another unsaleable asset.

Tbing is despite scoring a fair few I don't think the Ronaldo situation is comparable to Kane at Spurs who is undeniably complete whereas Ronaldo at his age is not. For me we need a proper CF one who can start many games and be relied on and when needed also partner Ronaldo.

Remember the summer when stories of Belotti moving for 60 or 70 mill were doing the rounds?

Strikes me as another case of that - his agent drumming up interest and Benfica all too happy to facilitate it if means they get a ludicrous sum.

I think the difference is that City have everything except what Halaand offers (CL winning experience aside). Their control over games and creativity is top class. On the other hand, for me we don't actually do these things well and hence theoretically need our forwards to contribute rather than have weaknesses others need to cover up for. For Halaand's rough edges you could argue that you have KdB Foden Silva providing the class. My worry is that adding Nunez to the likes of Bruno and Mctominay will see continue our mediocrity when it comes to control and possesion play.

The difference is in my opinion that belotti really was a donkey whereas I think this guy could potentially become much more
