It’s becoming unbearable. I’m so close to going on a streamlining mission myself

this should be a fun, exciting time. Instead the life is getting sucked out of every conversation.
Aye it’s fecking depressing! I find myself visiting the transfer forum less and less at the moment because I know each thread is just going to be filled with the same old moaning shite. It’s the same folk just repeating themselves in every thread… “the clubs finished” “Murtough and Arnold are useless Glazer shills” “everyone’s signing players but us” blah, blah, blah.

As the hours tick so does the patience . 7 days till pre-season starts no new faces. Did someone mention re-build? Expected something today, but again just BS media stories linking us with any footballer with a pulse.

Now others sniffing round our alleged targets just to rub salt in the wounds. Timber rejecting us too if you beleive the tabloids.

Im sure ETH did not want it to be like this, its complete and utter incompetence from the club on the recruitment front. And as for moving players on, its equally pathetic, how Jones, Pereira, Telles and AWB are still here is beyond me... You cant paper over the cracks anymore, the Glazers, chief exec, Murtough, Fletcher, Scouts, negotiating team.... all useless.

I understand what you are saying, but the reality is, things with the club are very bleak right now, arguably the worst since 1991 and there is very little to be excited about. So the somber mood of the fans was always going to spill into this place. The club has no merit in the bank left with the fans.

Is nobody excited by the arrival of ETH and his team? For the first time since fergie I feel like we have a proper coach, forward thinking and not just defensive first. That has to be exciting!

seriously if people aren’t excited by that they probably want to reevaluate their lives a bit!

The negativity sucks. But a couple of things… the title of the thread says it all — you know it’s going to be full of pessimism.

Secondly, maybe subconsciously, it doesn’t feel great when everyone is doing business around us, and there is a grain of truth to the complaints…

I am. Hoping he stamps his authority in this so-called High Council of the Club of Manchester United Transfers.

Usually it would yeah, and trust me I cannot wait for some real coaching as we haven't had it for a long time. But it already is starting to feel very much like a Moyes type situation, in that he may be let down by the level above him, and he is having to try perform miracles with an even weaker squad now than last season. He is basically going to have to rely on the likes of McTominay in his CM. He has the stack against him already if nothing changes.

I’m more worried that this club and the people running it will destroy his reputation.

ETH is not a miracle worker if he was happy with these proceedings he wouldn't have absolutely railroaded Murtough and Fletcher in his interview for the clubs recruitment policy and then postponed his holiday and his celebrations to fly to Manchester to prepare for the window months ago.

That's why the fans are mad, precisely BECAUSE we have such a good manager now, not only a good manager but one that is in demand at the top of their game. This is a real chance to turn it around and the club is not reciprocating.

Yeah he will improve what we have (and lets be honest this is literally the ONLY positive right now) but its also clear as day for anyone to see that there is massive problems in that dressing room they have already shown how toxic they are with an utter lack of passion, backbone, fight, desire or regard at all for the fans it needed reinforcements yesterday.

We haven't signed anyone yet but Shrager just said we are prioritizing de Jong, Vitinha and Ebiowei. What are our thoughts on that as a transfer window? I think it would be a good start but not nearly enough. If we could get those done and add a right winger and a CB or RB we'd be doing well. As it stands with just the three mentioned, I'd say 7/10 for the window. We really need a 9 or 10/10 to make up ground on the teams above us.

"For the first time since Fergie we have a proper coach" ?

Revisionism at its finest. Mourinho wasn't a proper coach? Nor is Van Gaal? Nor is Moyes?

Ten Hag is just someone else brought in to paper over the cracks. Without signings, and quickly, he'll be on a hiding to nothing.

I agree completely. Though you do have to always strengthen. Even when you're on top with a great team... You gotta freshen things up. We're nowhere close to that, and while Ten Hag will improve us massively... We also need a good window to at least give Ten Hag a chance.

Moyes and Mourinho are managers who aren't focused on implementing and coaching specific systems and patterns like Ten Hag and Van Gaal are. Van Gaal is obviously long removed from normal club football, and his vision didn't really match up which happens. But besides - they are all managers who weren't of the required level. Ten Hag just might be. Moyes is a mid table manager, not a top club manager. Mourinho is no longer a top club manager, thats why he's found his level now at Roma and the Conference League. Van Gaal is a national team manager, he's not suited to club management anymore (don't forget he kind of collapsed with Bayern before he was sacked). Ole was a nobody.

Ten hag is the first manager who is on the up, who has made his name because of his coaching, his progressive style of play, and has shown he's able to build a system that gets a group to play as more than the individuals, similar to Pep or Klopp. It's an extremely different appointment to anything we've done post Sir Alex. Pochettino would've been more of the same. This is us trying to build through just being a very well coached side with a modern style of play. He'll get his signings eventually, of course it's important, but the most important is his actual coaching team and the work he does with the team. Knowing how to implement his system and adapting it to be good enough to be a top team. The previous managers implemented what they wanted, they just weren't good enough.

Well I didn’t rate moyes, public park coaching with his old mate Jimmy
Nor VanGaal who bored the hell out of me
Nor Mourinho who I thought was past his best and I was waiting for the melt down
Ole I had hope for but ultimately he didn’t coach either

ETH is the first hope I have that players who have lost their way and are crying out for development will get that. And those that don’t buy in will be shown the door

Ten Hag was my choice for manager but he ain't a miracle worker. This team is shite. It need major overhaul.

Most of the players aren't fit to play and they never will be

To build something he has to be given new bricks if he's got the same old rotten bricks don't expect a new building.
I don’t believe that ALL of the bricks are rotten. I think the coaching they’ve been getting the last 6 months, with respect to the MLS, it’s not PL level

What really is baffling is the fact that even though we got ten Hag and he probably had a good relationship with them none of his former players seems to be that keen on joining us.
To be fair, it also hasn't helped that LvG has been a petty old man on an agenda hellbent on ruining us any way possible. He tried to block ETH from joining us. He came out publicly to warn Timber not to join us and tell Barca that FDJ should be valued at 112M (how the heck did he come up with that number?). Even Antony while not a Dutch does play for Ajax where LvG still has some influence.

Excited? I mean I guess, but we've had 4 full-time managers and a long interim in the past 10 years. ETH is number 6! We've had a revolving door of managerial failure that has left a lot (most?) of us rather jaded and disinclined to think that even a good coach will actually turn things around

Also, the manager does not play the games, and the state of the squad currently gives us little cause for optimism. Hope it changes, but that's all it is--hope.

So you’re not excited at the very least at the prospect of ETH building something?
I would be but I doubt the club allow him to.

They will ensure anything he builds takes years and years and doing so is likely to fail badly. Major overhaul is needed this summer.

Like look at Spurs? You think we'll give ETH enough to compete for top 4 with them? I doubt it. That'll take like 4+ really good players.

We need to have patience this summer but it's not going to be easy securing Ten Hags top targets. Reports today that United broke off personal terms negotiations with Timber when he asked for a very high salary. And apparently Nunez asked for twice the £140k he's earning at Liverpool so United walked away from any potential deal there too.

This is the price of missing out on CL football, lots of people were delighted we didn't qualify as it would have only ''papered over the cracks''. But it's obviously going to make Ten Hags rebuild all the more difficult and maybe even add a season onto it. We either pay players more than they're normally worth as compensation for not being in the CL next year or we walk away and look to sign lesser alternatives.

Neither option is great but this is the situation we are in after finishing 6th.

Those guys all failed here. When ETH inevitably fails here due to the lack of structure supporting him, he'll be perceived as a shit coach, while the next manager will be the first proper coach since SAF.

Are there any players out there who want to play for us? It's not exactly a good look getting rejected over and over again.

Going by reports everyone we've tried to sign.
Like who? Timber who apparently wants to stay at Ajax for another year? Wise decision by him. Who else? I get we haven't signed a player, but I have yet to see a report someone downright reject us.

My worries with Vitinha are he's not the DM we need for De Jong to flourish, hard to comment on Ebiowei as know little about him

I'd say it's more the price of handing massive contracts to anyone getting through the door for years. Ronaldo aside, look at DeGea, Sancho, Martial, Varane, Maguire there are very few players under 100k pw. Didn't Bruno almost double his salary when extending ? You're handing free agent wages to players you buy for dozens of millions. Sign for United and at first renewal you're getting close to 180/200k pw. You can't blame players to try and get their share.
It's fine that you can afford it but you're creating your own future problems.

This again...

Some of you are in for a rude awakening this season when you realize that no amount of coaching can mould shit into diamond. A good chunk of our squad are both physically and technically incompetent for the style/system of football ETH wants to implement. It'll all be found out very quickly
