Apparently they want to play him at LB too, weirdly enough.
Doesn't make sense. Doubt they'd pay 50m€ for a LB. He would be wasted at LB. His obvious strength is passing, he has to play in the middle either at CB or CM.

His flexibility is what is attractive to both clubs. He could play CB/CM and emergency LB if Xhaka/Partey/Tierney are out for any reason. Quality rotation depth. Not sure he'd ever start at CB for us if White/Gabriel/Saliba are fit but at least the option is there.

Only makes sense if he is used for left CB, LB who will also play as inverted LB in the middle for this kind of money. Arsenal needs cover for LB. He is quite short as a CB so no clue what Arteta is planning.

You make it sound like you have Vidic and Ferdinans at CB.

Find it hard to believe you have 50m€ for a quality rotation depth player, when you need midfielders.

We all love United
I genuinely think we will need to offload any two of Axel, Bailly and Jones first before we try to sign this guy. Perhaps that’s what the club have told Ajax

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some deals lined up for sales already, and we have been stalling until we agree the De Jong fee.

You specifically asked about Donny though? I never said any word about Pogba which we all know we messed up. AWB wasn't one of the best right backs but thats a different discussion altogether.

Point is, compared to what we paid for AWB and Maguire, every other signing would look like a bargain. We messed up completely.
You are trying to tell me that paying 130m pounds for the Ajax duo is bargain compared to us paying 130m for then one of the best CBs in the league and one of the best RBs in the league? Yeah sure.

You think you’re signing a £40m+ player to be rotation? I know you’ve been flashing the cash a bit last year or so but you’re not quite Man City yet!

You don't need to be Ferdinand or Vidic to keep your place against a 5'4 CB that never played in the PL. Maybe he will prove to be so good that it doesn't matter and take Gabriel's place after a few months but i doubt it. I also think Arteta still don't want to sell Xhaka. Rotation player isn't an insult, he could easily be starting 25/30+ games between the PL, the cup and EL.

We probably gonna let Arsenal do the hard work for us and when the deal will be advance then VDS will inform us about it just to hijack Lisandro in the last second just like we did with Malacia and Lyon

Think you might be on to something with inverted left back, play like City do sometimes bringing their full backs inside and having 2 number 8's pushed right up.

Could end up with some thing like this in transitions

-------------White----------------Gabriel----------

------Tomiyasu-----Partey------Martinez------

------------Odegaard-----Tielemens??---------

------Saka-----------Jesus----------Martinelli----

-----Tomiyas - White - Gabriel---

----------Odegaard - Vieira------- (attacking #8)
--Saka----------------------------------Martinelli (provide width)
---------------------Jesus------------------

This is my guess for the formation during attack when Tierney is out. I have no clue what Arteta is planning.

I just don’t like the idea of having a ton of players solely from the dutch league in our team. Most of them usually don’t transition as well so the odds would be against us.

Seems like we'll be facing stiff competition from Arsenal.
If we can offer them something in the area of what they were just offered by Arsenal, and are deliberating over apparently, I like our chances...

Would be so cheeky of Murtough letting another side do the lions share of the bargaining/negotiating only to swoop in at the 11th hour again

Bypasses that pesky 'United tax'

I guess if that's what it takes to get us out of paying over the odds then lets do it. Also sends the message out that we are starting to change the way we do our negotiations and that we wont be taken for a ride.

If the manager knows how to use them properly then it shouldn’t be a big concern.

De Jong, Eriksen, Martinez, Malacia and one forward would be superb business. I also think Sancho will find his feet and we know what Bruno is capable of when on song too. Very exciting should we pull these transfers off.

Going to have a midget left side if you play 5’7 Malacia next to 5’9 Martinez.
Doubt ten Hag cares about height. His pair of centre back last season were timber and Martinez. His number 1 criteria of his defenders are to be very good in progressing the ball.

I mean the manager can be as good as he wants but if the player is bad then the player is bad, and the averages wouldn’t be in our favor. Not taking shots at any of these guys individually at all, but lumped together it doesn’t bode well.

That works when you’re Ajax and you dominate possession in every match and few sides are good enough to get the ball down the pitch against you and force corners and crosses.

No coincidence that the top possession sides in the PL also have big aerially dominant CBs.

Not if we're counting on goals from corners
Yeah for corners we will need to rely on other tall players and its not many. Maguire, Ronaldo and that's sort of it. Dalot isnt short but its still tiny coverage

If the players are bad in different manager’s system but looks top class in ten Hag’s system, don’t think that matters. I’m sick of signing players that don’t suit the manager’s systems. Time to sign players that actually can play in manager’s system.

This is very smart. I think Van Der Sar would rather sell to us than to Arsenal.

Looks very exciting indeed. I actually see Malacia as a bonus. You can't go wrong for that little amount of money. He's a young, but experienced footballer with international caps as well.

So based on what I've just seen he hasn't played DM in around 2 seasons so if he's coming in then he's coming in as a CB so that means one of Varane or Maguire is getting dropped

Makes sense, both are mistake prone and Varane's always injured.
