That's nonsensical. They've played for years. We know their worth and it ain't much

Players shouldn't get a fresh start every manager. Truth is we keep these players because they have nowhere better to go.

Our sqaud is significantly worse than last season and even if we get another 3-4 players it'll still probably be worse. It's really not acceptable.
You think we're going to sign more than 6 players in this window?

I'm optimistic for the season especially because of ten hag, and I think the window will end up being good for us... But it's hard not to have deflated feelings coming up. We went into the summer having holes at DM/CM, RW, RB... So far we signed a LB, are close to signing a #10, and look likely for a CB. I see the logic with all of them and they'd all be good signings, but just for once I'd love for us to just address the gaping holes as a priority before improving other positions that aren't bad.

Anyway, if de Jong signs, I don't care about anyone else, it'll be a great summer. If not.... Then it'll be shit.

Liverpool just sold Williams for 17 million pounds. How the feck do we compete with that?

They literally sell the worst players for like triple their worth.

The same club that offered a loan to buy for Henderson, a premier league proven goalkeeper. Its like we operate in a lower grade.

They sell at the right times, Brewster, Ibe etc were all promising who turned out to be average.

We had the chance of selling Henderson for something like 30-40m to Chelsea... Instead gave him a 120k per week new contract and benched him until he lost value.

We could compete with that by hiring right people on right positions. But we don't do it. Pretty simple.
When you buy and sell, you need someone with knowledge and skill to do it and when to do it. We had Ed and now we have Ed's student.

Also, we are not ruthless. Liverpool, City and Chelsea are. They sell their academy products without hesitation.

Its very difficult remaining optimistic when the dominating headline is about Ronaldo leaving instead of a fantastic start to the transfer window following our worst season in PL history. Whatever side of the coin you're on, this is not a good start for Murtough and Arnold. It could all change in a few weeks but it would be a major concern if we're still at 1 signing come August.

August is already a failure, the manager said he wanted the signings before the window started by the beginning of the pre season tour. Murtough and his staff have already failed this hurdle.

I have a feeling Ronaldo will be back.

But either way, it doesn't bother me or nor should it the team much.

We will thrive with or without him under Ten Hag. Especially if we can bring in a right sided forward like Antony. Maybe we will finally have balance in the team.

This could end up being one of our worst transfer windows in a long time. Losing players and not getting any first team players in.

I mean we are going into a season with 2 senior CM's in McFred, we will potentially have 0 strikers, 3 LB's and 8 CB's.

I am not looking forward to the season one bit, how can ETH play his style when we dont sign players that can play his football.

There's only one United!
Bought Malacia and sold Pereira.
The club has only paid about 2/3 million in transfers till now.
I'm sorry for Ten Hag and hope that Martinez, Eriksen and FDJ materialise soon.

I get the general point, they do seem to sell well (as do City), but this one seems about right to me.

Its £17m incl add ons by all accounts, the guy’s got PL, CL and international experience and been coached by Klopp (and a decent academy coach, think his generation won FA Youth cup)?

(what is confusing is there’s also a Nico Williams with rumours of Liverpool (and us) being interested. Could be first time to sell and buy a player with such similar names)

Roll on the first game.

Seeing 23 threads about current or past Ajax players is getting old very fast.

Honestly IMO the manager is the most important thing and we finally have a worthy one. We'll get there eventually as long as we don't make him walk. He'll coach us to play a lot better even with nothing significant transfer wise. Just annoying seeing how our transfer business is conducted every single year. Its knowing when it's worth to just get a deal done asap, when it's worth dragging out and walking away. We get that wrong, all the time.

The manager might be the most prominent, but the challenges we're facing run much deeper. I HOPE you're right, but my hope doesn't blind me.

As things stand right now, you are 100% right to feel deflated. According to me, of course. Another poster would say otherwise.

This does feel like a normal Man Utd transfer window at this point, chasing another big name signing and creating another protracted transfer saga, only signing one player before the tour - in the position we least needed to strengthen.

It was crucial for this new manager that he has the players he wanted for as much of pre-season as possible and we couldn’t deliver it.

I must admit that after the latest stories about Lisandro and Antony I am not worried, but in panic. It seems we will splash our whole budget on a 7th or 8th CB, a 3rd LB and De Jong. What about a RB, a ST, especially with Ronaldo' situation? I know we have a new manager again, but does it means Martiak sill have a seco.. a countless chance to impress again? What is the point of Murthouh and Fletcher tthen? My last hope is that Dalot and Martial are disastrous on the pre-tour and make EtH want replacements for then this summer. I don't want to believe I am going to watch their sulky and helpless faces this season.

The way I see it - a top manager can be successful despite a shit structure behind him. A good structure but a shit manager will never get you there. When you have both obviously is ideal, but it's not everything.

At the end of the day, Woodward or the Glazers didn't do anything regarding coaching, picking lineups, tactics, or playing on the pitch. And ultimately that's what it's about. Our previous managers weren't helped, but they also just weren't good enough.

Eh, my point is that they failed at their own jobs irrespective of other failures above them. Or let me rephrase - they failed to be the required level for the job. They did as well as they could, but they were not good enough managers to achieve what we want to ultimately. Regardless of ownership. That's why Mourinho is at Roma now, Moyes at West Ham, Ole nowhere, and Van Gaal not managing a club side other than United in the past decade.

We ain't getting De Jong so, with Ronaldo likely leaving, our priorities should be a CDM and a ST.

Daily Record reporting this: not sure we are going to get a much better deal so let's get them done

Manchester United have been asked to pay combined transfer fees of £106m to sign Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez, 24, and Brazil winger Antony, 22, from Ajax.

Now that everyone has seen our squad in paper in all this glory can we all admit that this summer ain't going well?

We still need about 5-6 quality players if we want to compete for 4th....

The window has been a disaster so far, no other way of spinning it. Murtough's lack of experience or preparedness is on full display.

Cracking window so far. Signed one squad player just in time to leave for tour, only 4 weeks until the season starts and we are considerably weaker. Fair play it’s quite impressive.

And before anyone says so and so haven’t signed anyone etc I couldn’t give a shit. WE are the club in dire need of better players, the ones who were complete dog shite last season and the ones who’s top goal scorer wants to leave also.

Awaits the Top Reds to come out saying be patient it will come.... we'll be competing for the title before you know it.

Haven't you seen the list of over 100 linked players. We are literally buying everyone. Don't you worry, no other teams will have players left to compete. The Glazers have a spare trillion or two for the squad.

They are good at negotiating prices.
We are crap.
The best example I can give you is Haaland - MCFC get him for £50M, really quickly. If we'd gone for him, we'd negotiate all Summer, and would pay twice the price.
I often do wonder if our negotiators realise that the aim is to pay less, not more. Perhaps they are negotiating the price upwards, which catches the selling club off-guard.

Yes because Man City absolutely weren't negotiating/linked with Haaland for ages?

City pay half the incentives off the books.
