Might be hard to answer but is he better than Timber?

Do you think he will settle in the prem?
Probably a bit better at the moment, very close in level though.

Timber is a bit more robust as he is more blessed athletically with his insane agility, speed and explosivity. Martinez is more composed, better reader of the game and a better passer. Better in the air as well. Timber dribbles better.

It’s interesting to see what Ten Hags preferred CB pairing is.

He’s not going to spend 55m on a CB to sit on the bench regularly and he’s not going to bench the captain regularly

Maybe Varane fitness is a genuine issue and United aren’t sure he can play regularly any more. But he’s the best defender we have when fit
Or play Martinez as CDM or a back 3? The positives are that Martinez is versatile and that ETH knows his strengths. Maybe we can recoup 20m by selling Lindelöf?

Can he play in midfield? Does he have the legs and stamina?

I think Linda stays. With this signing we would be looking at Varane, Maguire, Linda and Martinez for the squad and hoping we can get Bailly, Jones and Tuanzebe off the books.

Yeah but if he didn't want to move to them then their offers are irrelevant.
Arsenal were making offers due to the player willing to join them according to reports. And it was also reported that if Arsenal's offer was better for Ajax he'd have gone there. But if the offers were similar, then joining Man Utd was his first choice.

Why would Maguire be retained as captain if he is not gonna be first choice?
Its happened plenty of times before. Also, what did you expect him to do, come in week 1 and say he’s replacing him as captain? Yikes thats not how the real world works.

That’s exactly how it works. No nonsense mode. He isn’t good enough to be in the first XI let alone be a captain. Would have sent the right message.

He can, he has done so for Ajax even in the CL.

As a sitting DM he should have the stamina and legs, but he is no Kante by any means either. He would have to rely on his positioning and tactical awareness, which are some of his strenghts.

Funny thing is that for all the fretting about his height, he's probably better in the air than other CBs we were linked with this summer like Timber and Pau Torres.

Yes, I see it like that too. Those three sick notes would be fantastic to recoup a few quid on.

Thank you! Think he will do well then?

People who say ‘What about when we play someone with a unit up front?’ as a reason not to buy him.

How many teams actually play with a striker like that? Only one or two. He has proven that he can more than hold his own against this type, but say it was a concern for that particular game, you play the CB partnership best suited for that fixture. Maguire and Varane for example.

Also, with the style that it seems that EtH is implementing, it is far more important to have the qualities of being a front foot defender, quick into tackle, good in 1 on 1s and a contributor to a quick transition from defence into attack, than it is to be able to deal with a long ball pumped up to striker. If we’re following our game plan he shouldn’t be in that situation very often.

Just my opinion
One or two?
Spurs have Kane, City have Haaland, Liverpool have Nunez, Newcastle have Wood, Fulham have Mitrovic, Wolves have Jimenez I bet all teams have physically imposing CF.

I hope I am wrong and he adapts and settles nicely, but I think this signing has disaster written all over it.

How fast is he by the way?

If he only wanted to come to us then how did Arsenal’s interest drive the price up?
Because none of this tripe makes sense.
Yeah but if he didn't want to move to them then their offers are irrelevant.
As Adnan has stated, his ultimate motivation was to play in the Premier League. He really didn't care which club he'd join as long as it was a good side. He wasn't picky about the team as long as Ajax were happy enough with the offer. Either he's suddenly had a change of heart and only wanted United, or his agent notified him that Arsenal weren't keen on making a better offer than United.

I think he will be a **** hero here and a big succes, as Blind would and should have been in better times.

The guy has everything you want in a player, apart from a bit of height.

Why wasn’t he played there more often? Isn’t it a more influential role in the side where he would have contributed more?

Last time Bailly played at RB was a CL game where he had to feign an injury 30 minutes in and be subbed off because he looked like Bambi on ice and was getting murdered.
He’s either being sold or ETH is going to try and improve him. Personally I’d rather see Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and AWB to leave before Baily at least we can use him in cup and Europa league to get his value up.

Vibes of that shakhtar donetsk guy describing how shocked they were when we paid what we did for Fred back then. I fear this will be a similar story.
Funny how the story a few days ago was that they didn’t want to let him go because they believed they would get more for him after the World Cup.

Exactly this. Fabio Cannavaro was 1.76 and one of the best defenders in the world for years. Mascherano was 1.74 and arguably the best player of WC 2014. Puyol, Baresi and even Koeman weren’t that tall. They all could eat taller players in the air for breakfast.

I think they did the sensible thing actually, nobody else is dumb enough to offer them such amount even if he won the bloody cup.
