After he signs for us no one will care.

They made Adama sign in January for 10k a week with a promise he’d be compensated generously when they sign him in the summer.

He‘s now back at Wolves after spending months missing out on his 50k a week contract at Wolves. Guessing he won’t be getting that back.
why wouldn’t anyone care?

players will think twice before getting into a contract with an employer deemed untrustworthy

they only started doing this stuff in the last couple of years and until now nobody would have expected they’d try to shirk out of paying deferred wages

There's gonna be some meltdown when Frenkie announces he's leaving Barcelona to join pearl jam on tour.

I have been following it and I understand that the "up front" amount has increased, presumably to give Barca the money to pay off Frenkie. If thats the case then the blockage in this deal should have been removed with that agreement and it should all happen quite quickly now. That doesn't seem to be happening.

Thats kind of my point. Barca are still mucking about trying to pay Frenkie as little as possible and holding up the deal. The longer this goes on, the more likely it is that Barca will feel that United, when pushed will up their offer a bit more and a bit more to make the deal happen.

Barca are in an awful position right now and are still managing to take us for a ride. Frenkie and United hold the power here and yet the only ones who seem to be dictating things at all are Barca and Frenkie.

United will have talked to Frenkie to make sure he is willing to come. The hold up is entirely Barca trying to worm their way out of as much of the deferred wages as possible. The fact that United and Barca have apparently agreed a fee seems not to have made that much difference.
It's an OFFICIAL agreement though not a verbal agreement. Clubs rarely if ever look to increase or decrease a fee once it's signed on paper I've personally never heard of it happening and despite this being a complicated deal it won't be the first.
Barca dragging things out is not some hidden sinister strategy you think to get us to pay more since we've already done so and even those in Spain are saying Barca see Utd's offer as "Too good to refuse" so we neither need nor will add more money and Barca trying to offer as little deferred money as possible doesn't mean they LACK the money just trying to explore whatever avenue they can to save up on however much possible. Eventually he'll be paid what he wants by Barcelona without any additional help from Utd who've done their part. If this saga goes to end of the month we'll walk away

Possibly Dembélé too because unless there is a mechanism within La Liga that allows negotiating clubs to keep players' registrations, he became a free agent before signing a new contract.
Good shout. Forgot about him

Can an unregistered player go on a preseason tour?
I don't see why not so long as pay/insurance and such can get sorted.

It bugs me we aren't hearing anything about such trigger mechanisms.

Seems to me Barca can essentially wait until they absolutely 100% have to register players which is likely a month away or so.

De Jong is obviously in no rush. With his past and future earnings at stake priority 1 urgency is protecting that.

The worst part to me is there's an obvious solution: tie future instalments to Barça honouring their dues with FDJ. Essentially, use them as escrow.

That not being put in place tells me Barça really expect to get concessions off FDJ or us to spend more overall (in fee, wages or structure) to get it done quicker.

We are the only ones in a rush here.

 lower salaries than Frenkie too, i'd imagine. They're an absolute mess.
They need to handover their financial plans to la Liga on the 30th July. They will be some creative accounting and overly optimistic revenue projections for sure.

It’s possible he has given us enough assurance to stay interested as a last ditch parachute option should he decide he has to leave and nothing else materializes. It’s possible we’ve been doing all this in an effort to “convince” him as we’ve done in years past. It’s possible he has absolutely no interest in joining us and is using us to get Barca to pay up on his deferred wages.

There are lots of possibilities here. And they don’t all point to him wanting to join us.
None of your possibilities are possible, i'm afraid.

Every agent and club will care, they are untrustworthy. In fact any financial institution should pay attention and put every imaginable protections in their deals with Barcelona.

I can only go by what I can see. Which is Lewandoski going on strike to sign for them and players signing for them waiting to be registered.

So looks like they don’t care.

if he doesn't go on tour it strengthens FDJ hand regarding constuctive dismissal I'm guessing. I'm sure his agents are telling him to still turn up to Barcas training facilities and conduct some light training. His number potentially being given away also helps

it feels like there is a logjam of players waiting on him to be gone before they can be registered. Would Barca actually sign these players without the ability to register them? FDJ would then have them over a barrel completely.

Can an unregistered player go on a preseason tour?
Yes. It's La Liga registration, all of these players are likely FIFA registered. In the context we are talking about unregistered players only miss league games, they can play in Copa Del Rey or the CL(if registered for that competition).

I think this will all be sorted in the next 48 hours. I think we want him badly enough to do something and Barcelona want him go that they will do something. De Jong quite rightly wants his money that Barcelona have withheld from him and is worried that he does go he wont get it. We not talking about a small amount. 20 million is alot and in a profession where one bad injury could end your career you have to make sure your future is set.

It might be time for the two new suits to actually ask FDJ if he wants to join United... seems slightly important to me

Barca will have to come up with a solution if they truly do need to sell him. They may have some upper hand in taking advantage of de Jong if he has simply agreed to back ended salary should he stay for that time and suffers a major loss if for whatever reason if he gets sold. Very naïve of his agent if so. Frenkie is then forced to stay in order to pick up his latter earnings which he has in good faith tried to help the club by some reports of accepting just 3m in one previous year.

Either a decent payoff or the full amount guaranteed in a reasonable timeframe or Frenkie stays and triggers a host of payouts anyway.

I wonder if life is as tough being a Barca fan as it is being a United fan these days. They seem to have fallen almost as far as us - and much quicker which could make things worse. At least some of us say ours coming...

It's worse for them cause they're still in their denial stage, we're all the way at acceptance now.

I read a lot that Barcelona have to sell De Jong to register new players to their La Liga Squad (Kessie, Raphina and Christiensen).

If they fail to do that, those 3 players would still be on their payroll but just not able to take part in La Liga, right ?

What is to stop them from removing De Jong from their La Liga Squad to insert those 3 players in?

Is there a clause in the contract that the player is free to go to leave on a Free if they do not register him to that?

Already agreed to go Liverpool. But things can change. Signed in pencil though.
There were tweets yesterday saying Madrid have made him their prime target for next summer.

Seems they won't rest until they've signed every €100m teenage midfielder on the planet.

I have to admit, growing up i had a lot of respect for barcelona. The past 3 years that respect has turned to shit.

we need to relax. He is coming. No way in hell we allow this to drag this long without prior knowledge that he is inbound. We need to understand that the moment he agrees officially, his ‘deferred’ salary is forfeited
We wont give barcelona a deadline simply because we are basically giving FDJ one.

all the ‘i want to stay’ statements make perfect sense. If he admitted he wants out again barcelona would hold all the cards.

If indeed they have to sell to register then the player is ours. Knowing this, I guess it makes sense for him to wait it out.
