So weird to chase a player who doesn't want to come. Think this is a bad move.

Starting to be whispers from both sides this weekend and this morning that a deal can't be done.

If it falls apart this week, at least we have time to sniff out a decent alternative and not panic buy Fellaini
Had a little giggle during the Melbourne game at the thought of signing Folami, his name sounds like a BTEC Fellaini.

You’re making no sense. Who is our plan B that will make us win things again?
Frankly I don't know. That's the issue. The midfield market is a bit crap but then again I'm not a professional scout. I'd imagine that our club is looking for alternatives though. At least I hope so because if this falls through and we are stuck with our current midfield options that's simply not good enough.

So there’s my point, we might have a midfield talent as good as a shit plan B. Yet you were trying to refute that.

Let's play a game everyone.

Player X, plays for Club B, Club B wants to sell Player X to Club G, but Player X does not want to leave Club B, below is the comments from Player X, who at the end left Club B and joined Club G.

"We were told that the Club B would be able to make some money on me if they sold me, but I initially didn't want to leave,"

“it was especially difficult to move to Club G given that Club G were not a top club at the time, having not made a Champions League semi-final appearance in eight years”

"It was a difficult decision, the most difficult one of my career"

"Club G were not among the European elite at that moment and it was a step back for me."

Can you guess who is Player X?

Which Club is Club B, and which is Club G?
Alexis Sánchez to arsenal?

It’s not even news though is it? It’s something we knew 2 months ago rehashed daily as though it’s new info.

He wants to stay on his current deal, Barça says that’s impossible. Rinse and repeat.
Why isn’t it news? Is it better to bury our heads in the sand and only believe the reports saying he wants to come? Both reports are as vague as each other imo

Yup was resigned myself to this a week ago.

The current circumstances can only be explained by none other than him not wanting to leave, it was never about those deferred wages Barca are spending a lot of money on players and United had increased the upfront fee it would have been sorted by now.

Also explains why they didn't leave him off the tour like some of the other players they were forcing out, resigned to him staying and the carrot not the stick means he will more likely accept a lower short term wage.
Apart from he and his agent have already ruled that out point blank. If he stays he wants to get paid. Can’t blame him either, the club have already tried to screw him numerous times.

We'll find out more when the league starts about this registering players talk. If they can't by then, they'll have to budge and give him his money. A bit less than 4 weeks to go, to find out.

So we’re going to see the same two stories about it being off and he wants to stay vs another small step forward for another 50 days?

People might die

He was a talent but your overrating him a bit here.
He's right, Greenwood was another level to these kids. Garner is nothing more than an ok talent and he lacks quality in possession and under pressure. The other two talents are Iqbal and Savage and they aren't gonna be playing 10 games between them next season, this if they're lucky.

It's gonna be Fred and Mctominay next season if we aren't signing any midfielders again. Maybe Eriksen will play there against weaker opponents, but these options remain severely underwhelming.

Tell Barca the deal is off and put the pressure on them to force him out. Either it gets ugly between the player and the club or they somehow pay up/convince him to forfeit his money.
I feel like you dont want to do that. That’s a guy that comes in as your big star. Do you really want him to feel like you’ve put him in a corner and force him to forfeit a significant amount of money he is owed ? We’re probably trying to be as accommodating as possible to avoid having our newest shining toy feeling disgruntled with our club. This is a Barcelona issue they need to be the assholes here not us.

Bolded bit - I take your point

But has the business done so far lead you to believe United are building a team that will be title challenging any time soon?

For me, no. I'd say the window has been about par. I think they need a top class forward and top class CM otherwise the window will look like a failure. So I don't see this win/win situation
Remember the squad we have is still a very good squad. Last season was a perfect clusterfeck of a storm, but it was not the norm. A few clever additions that suit the managers plans, and crucially a manager who has a plan and a vision that the team can unite around will make our team suddenly look very good.
I don’t know about the title, but with ETH and Steve McClaren coaching these boys I expect we could win a minor cup this season and kick on next. A bit of organisation will work wonders.

There's only one United!

Yes, i agree with this.
The only problem i can forsee is that if we wait till the end of the window then clubs will up their asking prices for decent alternatives.

I just hope the club is looking at other midfielders and not putting all their eggs in this De Jong basket. We are not in a position to be picky. There are so many midfielders that would be upgrades over our current lot. While its good to go after the best, sometimes the best don't want to join us for whatever reason and that is just the harsh reality.

We don't. He was a once in a decade talent. Those young boys look promising but aren't close to his level of talent.
Exactly, the first year we missed out on Sancho Greenwood was coming off of a near 20 goal debut season. It would be different if Zidane, Savage or Hannibal had done that already but all 2 of them have shown so far are some good halves of football in friendly games

Isn't the deadline supposed to be July 31st?

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
So I think the deadline for getting this deal done has passed now and this looks as dead as a dodo. Hope to see substantial leaks saying this one is off and for us to find another good alternative. Because, let's face it, nobody on this forum thought de Jong was the answer prior to us being linked. So hopefully there's another good option out there. I refuse to believe ETH thinks he can't do anything with us unless he has FDJ.

Or, I'm happy to give these kids a chance because they look pretty damn good to me.

Well 4 weeks is a bit less than 50 days, but yeah that'd be horrific.

Nope.

it was Robben from Madrid to Bayern, he said those comments about Bayern when he was interviewed and asked about what happened in the summer he moved to Bayern
Cheers.

I think it's a bit of a stretch not to call them a top club at that time. Real Madrid was in a similar position in those years. Very dramatic from Robben.
