De Jong could shut this down in seconds with an interview, but no... If he was planning on staying and renegotiating, then telling people about it wouldn't hurt his position as it's what he wants.
Just saying something simple like "I'm in talks with Barca about staying" would pretty much shut everything down rather quick (unless they can't negotiate anything, then the circus begins again)
The only thing he’s said in all of this is that he wants to stay at Barca. He has said this and probably feels he doesn’t have to repeat himself.

Barcelona wants him to let go off his 17m deferred wages and sign 225k euros(50-60% reported drop) contract . We can offer salary in range of 275-300k pounds. That is an instant ~100k wage increase.
But he could do nothing and get paid 425k a week. So if he decides to move to United he would be taking a pay cut of over 100k a week.

Directly under the sun... NOW!
I think I’m one of those who will ignore all the info available so far and still BELIEVEEEEEE

First things first the man ain’t gonna bench Pedri or Gavi while they’re fit and ready to play..

Taking a wage cut is one thing but to be second fiddle being Frenkie in the flesh is a whole other thing..

If the man still wishes to stay then it goes to show how far our own club has fallen..

I hope the Glazers can learn a thing or two from this fiasco..

Those last 3 tweets are the most accurate ones I've seen in days.

Barcelona need him to leave. Even him taking a lower salary won't allow them to register all their new players, unless you think they are paying these new players about 25k per week each.

None of these stories are news. Here's the facts:

  • We've done a deal with Barcelona
  • There's a certain logic and appeal to him signing for us where he's wanted and can link up with his old coach
  • He probably preferred Barcelona at one point
  • Barcelona are being massive cnuts
  • The deal may or may not happen
  • It probably still will because it's not really in anyone's interests for it not to

If he leaves, not only do they get to reassign his entire salary to register 2-3 players, they also get to put 75 million euros on the books of which they can afd 25% of this to their wage cap allowing them to register 2-3 more.

This is how getting rid of de Jong likely allows them to register most if not all of their new signings

I'll go with this.

It will be an epic fail if we don't land a midfielder to be fair

Maybe they will agree to have their wages deferred?

I said it before let's just give the situation a little more time to resolve itself. It's frustrating as hell but it's necessary for the manager's top target if we want to show that we're willing to back the manager

How is he not a starter and a wanted man for them anyway? Is a 17 year old Gavi really ahead of him on merit? Or will he quickly get into their first team midfield if he somehow stays?

So he wants his money before leaving. Shock horror.
But @Classical Mechanic’s mate said they’d never be held to ransom over 20m euros or so.

Clear as day he wants what is owed for the past two years, moreso if he’s gonna have to leave as why the feck then did he help them out with almost 20m euros? As a matter of principal, I’d make 100% sure the club pay me that if they want me to feck off, why should they basically nick that money off me?

As frustrated as I get, I do understand the hard line and it’s no doubt right one. Pay us the monies owed, or we won’t discuss a thing.

Makes the whole saga fecking drawn out though, Barca still think he’s bluffing and will sign a new deal, as they clearly think United is a shithole club, or that he’ll drop his demands if they keep playing as a second fiddle CB.

I watched all their preseason games and the minutes he spent in midfield was 0. Only when he drove forward with the ball from CB. It's sad, like watching a supercar stuck in 2nd gear.

He's one of the few sizeable sellable players they have (they won't want to sell an academy player) plus he's never really fit in at Barca given Busquets occupies the same space as him (in the 6 picking the ball up from the CB's)

As suspected.

Total hardline from agent and player, will not even discuss transfer until they have confirmation that Barcelona will pay the monies owed in full.

Nothing has changed.
Has always been like that, hence all the he does not want to leave stories. It is clear that there are two options now.
1. Barca finds another way to register all new players anyhow and therefore dont pay him and let him rot on the bench kost likely. Or 2., the pressure piles up, they cant register the new players, need to pay him out and sell him. Question is what will come first, looks like FdJ is playing it cool for the time being

Let's just move to an alternative target instead. De Jong deserves to remain at the biggest almost bankrupt cnut of a club he is currently playing for.

Barca are just getting him ready for us while we iron out the kinks in the contract.

De Jong CB. Lisandro CM. It all makes sense now.

Done dealio.

Has deadline day written all over it if Barca don't give in.

They are really fecking him.
Xavi's comments alluded to the financial matter was dictating how they treated him on field. This is why I continue to scoff that those claiming he has "all the power". In a world cup year, there is a very good chance FDJ is a bench CB for Barca and gets like 20 mins every few weeks. They don't care, the fans have already turned on him. So yes, he can sit there and make his full wage, but they are going to destroy his career in the process.
