He's garbage. Fecking negligence that we're going into another season with him as a first choice CM.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
We also beat Arsenal in an FA cup quarter final with a midfield of the Da Silva twins, Gibson and o Shea.

We also used to win titles with Cleverly and Giggs in midfield.
It’s actually ironic when you consider mctominay would have been and indeed is loved by SAF. Like he is loved by all his managers. Even Ragnick who quite literally slated everyone and “told it like it is” said he was a future captain. Him and Fred have been a key part of the intensity and physicality we’ve shown winning the ball high this preseason - it’s just a fecking trope though at this stage to slag him off regardless of how he plays.

Conveniantly forgetting that he went to West Ham and absolutely smashed it.
He had 10 good games and was average afterwards. He's been average all the time and it will be on show again this year, and the same can be said of McTominay. I have no idea why people defend him, he is one of the reasons we find ourselves so far behind our rivals.

Can't believe we are going into another season with him as our starting midfielder, he's not total garbage though has his uses as either a sub or on a specific duty but when you need a midfielder to dictate a game he's not your guy.

He's more than good enough to get in the majority of premiership teams, Liverpool often play Keita, Arsenal play Xhaka, Spurs have played Skipp and Winks, Leicester have played Ndidi and Choudhury,

McT is miles better than any of them and many more. Your question doesn't even warrant asking.
has this lad really just said mctominay was "miles better" than Keita, Xhaka, Ndidi. ... the other 3 hes named dont play week in and out for their teams but id still take them over this pudding of a player.

I only rate Ndidi out of those 3 and that’s more because we need a player like him.

Exactly this.

I really have had it with people that watch United yet still slag the likes of Maguire and McTominay off.

McT would be a sure fire starter for SAF purely for his work ethic, it pains me to see people not realising that not every player has to be world class to be effective.

I get it, sometimes he isn't great, but actually sometimes he is, I'm happy with a squad player who treads that middle ground.

I’m so happy I’m not the only one who feels this way.

The same nonsense was spouted about Lingard and he is now at a newly promoted club. McTominay is lower Premier league level and that's on a good day, he was poor last year that I would even question if he is Championship level
And do you have scouting badges?

Seems strange that several mangers still think McT is good enough to start for an elite club, despite your opinions of him being a championship level player.

Seems even stranger that Ten Hag immediately said we need to improve the midfield as a priority when he arrived.

Thats because we have no creative Centre midfielders.

Not everyone has to be creative to be effective.

We really don’t, he’s a destroyer, would look awful in a possession based system, as he simply doesn’t have the passing range Ten Hag is after. If we get De Jong you’ll see what we do need compared to what you think we need.

Oh no, I know perfectly that he needs a playmaker from deep - but Ten Hag will upgrade his defensive player next season because De Jong likes to leave his space and roam a lot.

You keep changing the goalposts. Question is, did he get into a top 10 (think they were top four at one stage) team?

We're also far behind our rivals because we have a shitty structure. We've brought in loads of so called 'world class' players who have done feck all. That's the reason we're in a mess, not because of Lingard and McTominay!

Them managers have bought and fielded several players they thought were good enough for an elite team and, well…

They were all also sacked for poor performance and judgement.

I don’t hate McTominay or anything but you ain’t winning shit with him as a starter.

I hope he keeps putting his collar up, people are going to hate him regardless, go full in boiling their piss.

Look, he was really quite good against Madrid but go to any post game discussion around the net and it is the usual Mcfred hate-fest with all the flaws in the team being traced inevitably back to them. I have no issues with criticizing players, if they play badly, and I would be thrilled if Utd could upgrade that position, but if his performance is good keep that same energy.

If it wasn’t Fred who would it be? Garner?
It will be Fred so no need for the question.
Also don’t be suprised to see a 3 of Bruno, Eriksen, De Jong for some games.

He wouldn’t play Bruno’s passes with De Jong as his only CDM so let’s see if that’s true.

For me, every season leads to a rating of new French player that is absolutely intense and a tank with an engine. They normally move out their leagues and clubs and turn out to not be good enough.

Mctominay’s engine is good enough for this league.

People said the same shit about Henderson and Milner before Klopp came, he is more deeper of a player but Klopp would definitely use him.

I have not questioned his engine. Our manager is more Pep than Klopp

Well you don’t rate it whilst many managers do - 3 or 4 managers before you
Where have I said I don’t rate his engine?
His ability on the ball is the issue, as well as his positioning

Still 4 managers rate him and you don’t
No 4 manager played him ahead of others. I would also have played him ahead of certain players, but yes you’re right I don’t rate him and I’m willing to bet he won’t be a regular here in 12 months

Milner played & win things for City. Whilst for everyone Henderson there’s an Ibe, Solanke, Ings.

It’s far more likely McTominay joins the list of not quite good enough than does a Henderson. I hope he does the latter but feck me.

I never said he was a regular. I said he was a great squad player to have.

And I replied to someone saying he was good enough to start for an elite club, yet you decided to jump in….

Along with a few others in our squad, the only ‘elite’ club they would ever get a look in at is United

Fine i maybe going aboard but do you really think Klopp would not use him?

He uses Curtis Jones and Keita who I value for them as a squad rather than first 11 and I think Mctominay would be used by him.

But I have never said he was a starter, I always value him as a squad player and squad players sometimes start - I said he will be used as a defensive player in a double pivot this season and you don’t?

Let’s see if Mctominay gets used as a starter this season.

One of them managers won a trophy last season.

One of them is a national team manager,

One of them is manager for a team who got pretty far in a European comp last season.

I'd take their views over yours, no offense or anything!

Again. You replied to MY post which was about starters at elite clubs. Its not MY fault you decided to start an arguement over something you did not disagree with.

As for the rest. In my opinion, he wont be getting many minutes in the 23/24 season. He’ll get games this season because we cant rebuild the whole squad in a single summer.

He was quite good and he he's had good games before.

But the big problem for McTominay(and Fred) is when they're bad they're really bad.

Both of them need to make their bad game a 7/10. You can't play for United and have 10 absolute stinkers in a season.

So I'm really hoping this season the two of them raise their bottom level a notch. If they do they have a role here for sure.

Had Mourinho not been his usual dick self and picked him out of nowhere - mainly because of his height and to prove a point/pat himself on the back... I wonder if he'd have even made one appearance.

It wasn't like he stood out in the academy/reserves, so I doubt whether the managers after would have suddenly promoted him.

Thanks José.
