Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

I guess we should forget about progressive football for now. Without a CF who can do it the high pressing style won't work. Just have to try and get results I guess till we have enough players. Then we can start developing a visually distinct style.

Yeah dude, he didn’t want to play defense like Jose wanted to him. Guess what? None of the truly great attacking players do. You don’t have a Messi/Ronaldo/Maradona/Ronaldinho and ask them to track back. Thats someone else’s job. Thats kind of the whole point.

For this weekend, he should not start. He left that game at HT without the manager’s approval, he shouldn’t even be in the squad. Rashford through the middle.

Different era. That was a period of Individual Brilliance FC.

Fergie was like that -- all good players learn a way to play with one another. That's why Ole's approach was anachronistic.

The game has forever changed and evolved.

Not a different era. Just not enough players with that kind of talent who are worth it anymore. Messi and Ronaldo are declining. If Klopp or Pep had peak Messi/Ronaldo rn, you can bet your arse they would change the system to accomodate them. Fergie did it with Ronaldo at United between 2006-2009. PSG will do it too IF Kylian takes the next level (I don’t think he will but who knows).

The game changes forever every 5-6 years. I’ve been around long enough to see that haha. People said the exact same thing about tiki taka a decade ago, how many teams play exactly like that now? Not even Pep himself.

I don’t know what to say after reading your reply. But what happens now is that what Cantona said suddenly jumps into my mind, “when the seagulls follow the trawler, …”, you know?

What? I’m gonna take it that you agreed with me and then just quoted the King for whatever reason.

Yup but do you think Messi/Ronaldinho/R9 will say “how dare you!?”
I will give you maradona though because I believe he will say that to any coach :)

“The player, unable to contain his fury, got up from the bench where he was changing and began shouting, “After everything I’ve done for you, this is how you treat me! How dare you say that to me?!””

Not trying to defend Ronaldo but let's be honest, if you had any of these at their peak and you'd be fool asking them to track back, even now.

The reason we don't see anything like that that quite often is that simply put there's no player of their caliber in current football.

Well, a more extreme analogy is the human beings not awaken in the matrix (that movie trilogy). Take it easy. It’s time to go to bed, no?

He's not just any "former star player" so that type of comparison doesn't make sense. But he should have gotten all his wishes in writing in his contract if he felt so strongly about it. Heck, he could have put "if Utd just about squeak into the EL at the end of this season, they agree to give me to Bayern for free next season" and with the optimism around the club last year, they may have agreed even to that.

Even the best players have their time. Messi happily became second or even third fiddle in PSG without raising any fuss.

Let's not pretend Messi went there because he couldn't hack it at Barca anymore. He went where the money was and decided not to give a shit about playing in France

Have a feeling he will actually do well

In Madrid & Juventus they defended with a laid back 4-4-2 so they can accommodate Ronaldo not pressing. It didn't happen here with Ole & Rangnick and it will not happen with ETH. Putting him alone in the "press" up front will is bound to fail yet again.

Yet he hasn't thrown a strop even if he hasn't had a very good scoring season at PSG. Can you imagine how Ronaldo would have been had he only got 6 league goals last season?

Pressing as a striker isn't exactly that hard. You just have to make sure you time your runs and close down the angles effectively.

The harder running is needed by the wingers and midfield. Ronaldo is more than capable of doing that, he showed moments towards the end of the season last year.

The issue is our team did it so badly we often let people get isolated. I hope it's better under ETH.

In terms of what, behaving like an idiot?
On the pitch, he will score a few goals, sure, but our football is evolving under EtH and he just does not fit in. And he puts himself above the club and team, which is also another reason to remain pessimistic.

ETH also wants him to stay though so you'd think he'd have plans on how to fit Ronaldo in

Embarrassing situation we find ourselves innit, I mean we are literally can't shut this noise, I really can't wait for the window to close so we can focus on football.

No obviously not. I have a feeling the narrative will change

Maybe, but not for fans who love the club before players

Totally missing the point, the narrative only changes if he falls in line and behaves, and I'm saying I think he will.
Its just a feeling though, and a new forward coming in helps a lot with that

Also keep in mind our short bench for attacking players means we can't expect Sancho, Rashford and Martial to press ala Liverpool/City side. You can't do it without any cover for those first team players.

He caused damage already

So I made a point, you realised you had nothing, and decided to just say weird stuff in response trying to come off as smart. Bet.

Curious, is there any belief that Ronaldo will leave left in anyone at this point?
If Chelsea struggle to get a centre forward in, Tuchel might end up going with the owners wish and get Ronaldo in that's what I think could happen.

Even if he finds a club willing to get him, we shouldn't let him go unless we find a suitable replacement (even if we have Sesko already)

This word is everywhere at the moment

Seems to be applied to every topic involving the club at the moment. No wonder the media write the stories and create the drama tenfold when any story true or not drops, when the fanbase seem to swing on every word, and be embarrassed and humiliated.

Not saying you one of they ones, just noticed the embarrassing comment

The damage will easily be repaired once he starts scoring goals and the team as a while is performing too
The problem lots of people have, myself included, is that Ronaldo isn't conducive to a pressing style of play, which ten Hag likes to implement. If Ronaldo is unable and unwilling to press, that obviously directly impacts how well the team is able to perform.

There is quite a lot of ill will towards the club given how disappointing this summer has been. Inevitably that finds its way onto sites like this. They deserve lots of the grief they are getting, in my opinion.
