Yes but you need a cable that supports the standard which is what I said.
Currys was trying to bundle some very expensive HDMI cable with it, saying it was 4K ready cable or something.

Anyone know if you need any special cable or if it's fine just to use the regular ones?
As of the HDMI 1.4 specification, the following cable types are defined for HDMI in general:[75][76]

  • Standard HDMI Cable – up to 1080i and 720p
  • Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet
  • Standard Automotive HDMI Cable
  • High Speed HDMI Cable – 1080p, 4K 30 Hz, 3D and deep color
  • High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Cables

The High Speed HDMI cable have been around since 2009. Any cable that supports 1080p, if manufactured correctly, will support 4K.

There is no such thing as a HDMI 2.0 cable. There is no such thing as a HDMI 4k cable.

He should be able to use his old cables, as long as his current tv is 1080p

Edit - looking at that link I might actually be wrong

For 4k60 apparently you need a hdmi premium high speed cable

LG OLED65E6V and Sony KD-65A1 - in Switzerland the Sony (2017 vs LG 2016) is still a healthy 33% more expensive but comes with the underwhelming Android OS. The port location, brightness & concerns about Dolby Vision (LG) make me waffle between the two. Wondering if any Caf owners who might have some perspective?

Gonna go for the LG 43UJ701V. Good reviews, and on sale over here - especially as biggest I can go is 43" for the gap between wall and chimney breast. Then thats me geared for Xbox one X and upgrading to Sky Q.

I'm waiting until OLED TV's come down in price before my next TV purchase. More bothered about that than 4k.

If you want more than 24 frames per second 4k then you'll need a better HDMI cable than 1.4. If you want more than 8-bit colour then again you have to upgrade from 1.4.

Bought the Sony KD55A1... Just a fantastic set.. Been setting it up with my ps4 and Nvidia shield for a while now. Just fantastic, nothing I have seen on the market today is better as an all rounder. A worthy set to have replaced my W905. Love it..

Got the LG 43UJ701V up and running. Looks beautiful. Watched Champions league last night, even on normal out-of-the-box setting is much clearer, no judder or grain that sometimes appeared on my Samsung 40" tv. Flicked on my xbox, tested GTA V as that does have a grain through it anyway - the depth and clarity is very noticeable. Fifa also looked far clearer. Gaming mode also doesnt take away from the experience, Samsung used be noticeably downgraded when you flicked on gaming mode - as all it done was turn all the pretty modes off, and you were left with a dull ass picture.

My 40" actually looked worse than my older Sony Bravia 32" when I compared them, especially for gaming! More setting options in the Bravia allowed me to custom the picture more. So basically my three year old Samsung 40" was a bit shit.

And to make it better, luckily I reserved and bought it when i did as it is now gone up again to €899, only paid €649. Result and a half. I'll flog the Samsung for 200-300 squids.

Is this similar to the 65" model? Does it also have the unusual stand too? Are you or have you wall mounted it? This along with the lack of backlit remote seem to be minor negatives

Yes the same tv set.. It doesn't have a stand per se but a table support behind it that also has the inputs and the bass for the sound that comes from the oled panel (no speakers).. Mine is on my tv cabinet and no no backlight for the remote never bothers me at all, volume is the only button you use once in a blue moon.. Everything is connected with hdmi and has CEC so when you turn on ps4 or any hdmi connected device it starts up the tv on that channel.. If the remote is the only issue you are buying a great tv set.

Been using it now for a while and it just gets better and better.. Love it..

The LG OLED C7 series is looking attractive. It's fairly future proof as TVs go...any improvements to picture quality will be marginal at this point. And the 65" is flirting with the $3k price point...

We can't stop here. This is bat country.
I have the 55" LG OLED B7V and the picture is mindblowingly good.

Watching Narcos on Netflix in Ultra HD

Sky Q for the sports (had to take out a multiroom box I don't need to get Ultra HD channels - nonsense). Shame BT don't broadcast their Ultra HD channels through Sky.

I was 'talked into' an open box special on the 65" that was almost $1k off because it was shipped without a stand. The picture is so good it's unsettling. And I haven't even calibrated it yet.

The only thing that bothers me with my Sony oled A series is the lack of 4k or UHD material.. 4k with HDR on this Sony set is just beyond good..

I was really tempted by a Oled before I went for the XE94. Then I saw the mass complaints on the AV and even Sky forums about the screen burn and image retention.

The screens look fantastic. But as I do watch a lot of sports, I don’t want the sky sports logo burned in. It’s the same with gaming and the HUD.

So I would be vary about investing in OLED currently until they solve those issues.

http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Q/LG-OLED-screen-burn-in-issues/td-p/2682213

Just need to look at the images from that thread. Some people have taken LG and Curry’s to court. Currys refused to replace it because the customer watched too much sky.

They, and Currys, say it is not covered under the warranty, they say I have misused the TV by watching Sky News too much. I'm in the process of taking Currys to the small claims court.
Yes it was an expensive one £3k.

Doesn’t look like the UK will be showing the World Cup in 4K as BBC and ITV still don’t have any 4K channels. Switzerland, however, are showing most of the games in 4K.

Does anyone watch anything in 4k regularly?

There seems to be few TV broadcasts in the UK in 4k unless you pay extra on top of an expensive sports package with sky.

Despite being around for a while now. 1080p is still the standard.

Only on Netflix for me, but I haven't seen anything on standard broadcasting. Even on Now TV you have to pay £5 a month for the Boost package which "boosts" it to 1080p from 720p which is a joke for that price.

Most of the content I watch in 4K is streamed off Netflix or Prime, with Sky though you can see a big difference between HD and UltraHD though.

the 4k options on Netflix and Prime aren't great, wouldn't notice much of an upgrade on the 1080p versions. Much better when it's not streaming, like on Sky Ultra HD, or Bluray.

The only time I have really noticed 4K is on the PS5. Games are so much clearer and Bku-Ray 4K with HDR for Films is so much nicer.

I wish Sky had dedicated 4K sports channels instead of having to select it when it pops up.

I don't have a 4K TV myself, but when I go round people's houses who do, I don't think it's a noticeable different from 1080.

Whereas the difference between SD and HD was huge.

Watch football on sky on UHD. Also box sets that they release in 4K.

It’s very good. Definitely feel like normal HD is a downgrade when UHD not an option.

Just interested about what your thoughts were on this?

It might seem ridiculous considering your phone my right now be 1080p, but I cant see this really taking off for another 15 years. Or will we completely skip this standard and move onto something else?
I've had a 4k telly for years. I bet you feel like a right fool for this post, how wrong you were.

Everyone gets 4K wrong. IF you are sitting like 3m+ away from the TV you are not going to see any difference over 1080p. The point is that it allows you to either sit nearer and not get a pixellated image OR buy a bigger TV. If you have a 4k TV, do yourself a favour and at least once watch the content from like 1m-2m away. Then you'll get it.

Although i dont actually have a 4k tv, still on 1080p! And although i do have a 4k phone, i mostly keep it in medium battery mode which i think keeps it in 1080p mode.

I maintain i am correct!

4k content still isn't getting widespread support and its just starting to reach midrange tv prices so dont think its a standard format that everyone owns. Of 20 odd people i can think of off the top of my head 2 have 4k tv's. His post is still right and 15 years is probably a pretty good prediction.
