Yes but you need a cable that supports the standard which is what I said.
Currys was trying to bundle some very expensive HDMI cable with it, saying it was 4K ready cable or something.
Anyone know if you need any special cable or if it's fine just to use the regular ones?

The High Speed HDMI cable have been around since 2009. Any cable that supports 1080p, if manufactured correctly, will support 4K.
There is no such thing as a HDMI 2.0 cable. There is no such thing as a HDMI 4k cable.
He should be able to use his old cables, as long as his current tv is 1080p
