I doubt ronnie is pleased about this :nervous:

He might be the best in world again in his current form.

Maybe we should have gone for that Portuguese lad after all.

He may as well end the perennial debate this very year if he manages to play a part in both a world cup win and an ucl for psg, although it will always be Maradona for me anyway.

Well he finally added a bicycle kick to his list of great goals. He's never going to be peak Messi again, but he looks more up for it this season.

The man plays damn near Busquets position half the time and still racks up those goals and assists. He'll be a sweeper when he's 45 and still popping up with 10 a season.
Ignoring his last season which was poor. Its always been impressive that slighter older Messi has been able drop so deep yet still top the scoring charts.

Clermont look like the equivalent of a league 2 side with a likely budget to match. It looks absolutely absurd that this billionaire team rolls through celebrating anything against such fodder. The disparity is surreal.

Yeah, we've had Chelsea, now we have City and sooner or later Newcastle will be like City as well. I can remember Chelsea celebrating quite a lot when they put 9 goals past Wigan in 2009/2010. But yeah sugar daddy clubs are unfair. But I mean we've got like 3 of them. Or 2 if Chelsea doesn't count anymore.

You see similarities between PL fodder and a side like Clermont? I said league 2 for a reason, although I actually mean the division below Championship which is now league 1.

Just find the footage odd - how many times over is the disparity between the squads last night?

I bet if they don't celebrate or show much enthusiasm another poster will call them soulless

I'll agree, it's totally farcical. Like the Harlem globetrotters. Egalitie and all that.

It's equally amazing PSG somehow didn't win the league a couple of times with their team.

I mean yeah the PL stronger. I just don't find say PSG clubbing Clermont much different than City beating Norwich 5-0 last season. We are the league of sugar daddies. And even so we(Man Utd) have spent outrageous money since Fergie rated. We've just been shit anyway. But yeah I don't have a problem with PSG celebrating. They were struggling in the league last season, usually winning by late winners and not steam rolling teams like you would expect. It's too soon to say they've got their groove together, but do you expect them not to celebrate scoring great goals?

It just made me think of the psychological rollercoaster for those PSG players going from virtual training games to having demands of doing big things in the CL. In terms of mental focus and prep it must be incredibly difficult to go from 0-100 and back again.

Not trying to knock the league, but that footage really brought home how absurd it is to have these two sides in the same division.

Honestly, the more I watch it the more I think it WAS on purpose? It looks like a proper flick but on the initial view I thought it was a fluke.

EDIT: Now I’m thinking fluke actually.
Looks like a proper back heel flick.

I’m not one who calls it a farmer’s league or any of that stuff, but can’t help but see the surrealist aspects of a player who has a solid claim for best of literal all time swatting clubs whom his wage alone is probably covering that of the entire squad he’s going up against.

It’s jarring as imagery, to me at least. Not a fan of the PL disparity either, but I still think the equivalent to this would be blind selecting a league 1 side and having them in a match with City.

Seems to be hitting a really rich vein of form. Will add some interesting fuel to the you know who vs Messi insane bickerfest if Messi has an Indian summer, culminating in a stand out WC performance, while the other bloke is playing poorly and burning bridges everywhere he goes.

Well I mean yeah, I don't disagree that PSG have a unfair advantage in that league and is a plastic club. But I mean we've also often played clubs where say Pogbas transfer fee cost more than opposition team combined. It's just in the PL we at least have some stronger teams at the top. Which unfortunately is Chelsea, City and Liverpool.

But in any case I don't disagree with you as such. It something that's been the case for years and years now.

Other bloke hasn't played yet. My guess is that both will be better than they were last season. Both have a decent chance at the WC. Not favourites but a decent chance.

Yeah so Neymar earns 200 times what the average player at Clermont earns (yes, 200 times). Also the worst paid PSG senior squad player is paid more than the best paid player at Marseille.

Ronaldo fans weeping
We are not. Ronaldo fans respect Messi more then Messi fans respect Ronaldo. Nobody should care when these guys perform or do amazing things. They are two of the greatest of all time, in my view arguably the two greatest.

I was actually rewatching the game this morning as I didn’t get to watch it fully yesterday and he looks to have his quick first step back or even a little more burst of pace. He seems more loose and just enjoying the game again. If he can keep this level of performance along with the fact Argentina seem that have finally figured it out they are certainly one of the 3 favorite for the World Cup in my view.

This very well could be Lionel Messi last season in Europe so I’m going to enjoy it before this era is over.

Now for some light hearted banter, that first goal was more of a tricycle kick then a bicycle kick but well done ;)

The French league is a joke, that stadium reminds me of FA cup games when we play a league 2 side.
The level of the league compared to PSG is obviously very lop sided.

If you play for PSG and have Monster numbers it deserves an *

Regardless of that as I said yesterday this is the best or most confident I have seen PSG. They look more mature and a no nonsense side this year. To my they are easily the favorites for the CL.

If I’m being honest I fully expect Messi to have a better season by a lot more this year.

Ronaldo if he stays I believe will be disinterested and less motivated and I feel he will have his worst season in his whole career. Maybe tongue and cheek but that’s my feeling at the moment.

Also Renato and Vitinha I think are great additions to this team and Nuno Mendes is very close to becoming on of the best Left backs in the world. He is fantastic!

Nah while Ronaldo may sulk, but if he wants to stay relevant with the intention to play into his 40's he's going to have to give his best.

They still have some flaws. They look vulnerable building from the back. But asides that their defense and attack looks solid and Mbappe is still returning

He's 2 trophies away from Alves's all-time record, and there's a good chance he can tie it by next May if PSG have a good season, so that must be his main target, world cup-aside. Beyond that, he's extending his all time goals/assists record.

it's not really a Ligue 1 thing though, it was the case in Spain.

We're going to have a repeat of PSG vs Bayern final.

I think Madrid, City & Liverpool are all going to struggle this season.
