Not in the team for the first match of the season. Quite surprised by that.
I know someone on here who'll be very satisfied with this.

Lingard has finally gone. Lindelof is not in the team or on the bench.

Is it more than five years that at least one of these hopeless, useless players have not stunk the place out?

Finally!
I hope you sleep better now. I almost hope Lindelöf leaves for Roma. Who is it you prefer instead of him?

I also hope Lindelof leaves for Roma. Are you trying to make out we would have been better with him in the team

Yes I think so.
I don’t think he’d make all the difference but better indeed:lol:

I’m mainly just laughing att everyone saying he’s the weak link. A new CB and we’ll improve alot.

The first two goals were because of De Gea and Maguire pissing about. The corner should have been dealt with and the fourth was Sancho giving up and a quick break which Shaw couldn't even keep up with.

I'm sure Lindelof would have made any difference whatsoever. Just see him with his excessive pace overtaking Shaw.

Hopefully Maguire will be the next to go. Maguire - Lindelof the worst CB partnership we've ever had.

Sometimes you have to wonder who writes on this forum. Today, even Victor wasn't on the bench, but sure enough, he's being criticized. the question is whether people here have any knowledge of football at all or just have an agenda. Send Mcguire to the 3rd division and stop seeing these English players as god. The thing is it's the imported players that make the difference not English spoiled players. Every world cup England is screaming for a win but they are not even good enough for the group stage.

He's being criticised for his previous performances, until some other fool brought him up. Otherwise he wouldn't have been mentioned. Jesus! Go and snuggle up to darling Victor!

What's happening with this guy? Arguably out best defender last season, by a small margin but still, and he's nowhere to be found?

Is he injured?
Are we making a trade to cash in on him, is Martinez really worth taking that gamble?

I think he'd be quite well suited to our new style as well so it is odd. He's far from perfect but I'd prefer him over Maguire anyway. Fortunately for Maguire he's the captain so that'll come ahead of performances.

Right back till the end of the season?

His good on the ball, has better defensive awareness than both our other right backs. Can tuck inside centrally as ETH has been asking.

Him and Martinez as starting centre backs, would give me nightmares. I’d say he’s not very well suited as Ten Hag had a good look at him preseason, bought a replacement and dropped him.

Well I'd say he's quite well suited to ETH system actually, better than Maguire if you want to play high line and probably best passer amongst our CBs.

Also, Martinez talks started well before the preseason, we've been waiting for a long time for work permit if I recall. So it doesn't make sense to me that ETH has given up on Lindelof so early?
Also, no way we're going to play them together as CBs.

Maybe I missed the memo about Lindelof being injured but I don't get the masterplan behind Martinez deal at all. Hopefully it all fits together somehow but IMO letting Lindelof go only makes sense if we're getting good money for him.

EtH said Lindelöf isn't "available", so in all likelihood it's something medical.

At this stage neither of our CBs are good enough except maybe Varane who has fitness issues.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Lindelof pairing with Varane. Both of them can play and have experience at the highest level.

Lindelöf is injured. I've said it before and others have as well, but people still keep asking the question.

For all the "Jose Was Right" posters out there, and they do exist, it should be noted that it was Jose who brought in The Iceman.

Might go on a loan to Roma, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Understand if he wants to play more matches, but a loan would be stupid imo. Martinez might fail, Maguire might have a season like the last one, and Varane might continue his injury nightmare. If 2 out of these 3 events happen, which I see as highly likely, we will regret sending him on a loan.

I'm a swede but are generally harder judging against my own countries player than to others, but yet some will think I'm biased...
Peoples obsession with Maguire ahead of Lindelof are laughable. The only thing Maguire has over the swede is heading (which are the swedes worst skill), and to big that big and so bad in the air as Maguire still is a mystery. I very much doubt that we had conceded 4 goals with Lindelof instead of Maguire against Brentford, simply because his acceleration and pace (even though he isn't the fastest in the world) is way better. I also thinks that Lindelof is a better leader, he's the captain of the swedish national team and you can see that it's often him who talks the most in the center of the pitch in United's games.
Lindelof is not a great defender. certainly not for a club of United's stature, but still better than media and pundits "favourite" in Maguire. Lindelof always gets the shit when they play together, rarely Maguire, even if it obviously not his fault.
With that said I don't think Lindelof and Martinez is a good pairing. First of all the strenght in the air is weak, none of them are a good header of the ball. Both of them rather wants to play out of the back than hoofing if possible and both wants to put pressure higher up in the pitch. They are more similar to each other.
Though I actually think that Lindelof could do a good job as a right defender instead of Dalot. He has a better right foot (often takes the free kicks in Sweden and has taken penalties there) and actual football brain: I'm not sure it would happen but he would do much better job there than Dalot I believe.
With the current players I would like to see Lindelof - Varane - Martinez - Malacia as our back four. I've never rated Maguire, not in Hull, not in Leicester and most definately not now in United. I think he's the worst (of the ones who could count as starters) central defender we had during for the last at least 30 years. And we payed 80 mil. for him, lunatics...

Thanks for your opinion but the bolded bit is all we needed to know coming from a compatriot, which says it all really.

If he goes out on loan, then I highly doubt we will miss his 'qualities' because for everything that he has on paper, which some like yourself have outlined, he hasn't shown much in 6 years that he is certified leader/first team material.

Maguire is better aerially, shown a higher (and much lower ceiling) and for better or worse will be the preference. At worse it will be sideways step, neither here or there, much like the ability of Lindelof himself.

And Bailly.

Yes, and Bailly AND Lukakau AND Pogba and Mkhtarian AND Matic AND Sanchez AND Dalot AND Fred.

Anyone who argues that Jose "was right", at least when it comes to his days at Old Trafford (he brilliant at Chelsea 1.0 and of course at Inter), needs to have the tin foil swiped off their dome.

If he goes on loan I am officially DONE with this club
Cool enjoy supporting his next club then. He’s currently maybe 4th choice and hasn’t excelled in the several seasons he’s been here, so not likely he’ll suddenly become world class

Think he was just complaining about how ridiculously stupid this club is at the moment, and not being literal, which is more than a fair criticism. And this decision would be highly questionable.

I'm not a massive fan of Lindelof and towards the end of the season i was getting really pissed off at his passive defending but i'd probably say he was slightly better than Maguire and Varane last season. I'm not a Maguire 'hater' and I think there's a decent defender in there somewhere but he's getting away with murder being selected at times.

We can't be sure how Martinez will fit in and if Varane can stay fit so...this could backfire if the story is true.

I'd rather Lindelof than the Slab.

We shouldn't let him go on loan. He can play RB too if we can shift AWB out.

Exactly. The Jose sympathisers are idiots.

A stunning stats about Lindelof:
Since the start of 2021-22 season:
We conceded 0.91 goals per game when Varane (22/24 games) is on the field
We conceded 1.47 goals per game when Maguire (47/32 games) is on the field
We conceded 1.69 goals per game when lindelof is on the field (47 goals/28 games)
We conceded 1.00 goals per game when Bailly is on the field (4/4 games)

Maguire + Lindelof is a disastrous CB pairing

This is the start of the 6th year of absolutely moronic defending from a completely useless player who once passed to Rashford and there are still people wanting him in the line-up. Incredible.
Gotta wonder what causes completely over-the-top posts like this, cause it sure isn't reality.

True they do often feel like our worst centre back pairing
