He hasn't said anything, in fact why can't he say De Jong is going nowhere.
Because if he says that and the club sells him then anything else he says would not carry any weight. There is a chance of him leaving but it’s uncertain either way. With that said, I’d say there’s still a slightly bigger chance he stays, based purely on the tone of all the reports as a whole. 70% stay - 30% leave.

When have footballers ever given a straight answer? It always "no one knows the future and anything can happen".
He said Gavi was going nowhere and he also said it about another player last week

Well its man management. You can't tell you don't a high profile player cause of the complexity of the situation. If he doesn't leave you have a pissed off player there for at least the next 5 months and worst case a year.

I guess the point being that there is a good chance he does leave. Hence why he said what he said.

It’s a disgrace thinking about the amount of CB and CM players we have bought post-Fergie and still finding ourselves needing to buy in those positions.

But the thing is Xavi doesn't have anything against the player and his ability. Its only the contract thats the issue meaning if he agrees to a pay cut he stays 100% at the club.

Im not 100% sure that rings true. At the very least Xavi doesn’t rate him as a starter and thats been seen from last season

Surely, if we make a little video of what he can expect in Manchester..

Greggs, our national gem. Steaming hot sausage rolls, fresh and tasty. Shit to Nice weather, course language throughout the city, QTE's in sidestreets, miserable as feck shop workers, and naturally, the beautiful graffiti and artwork peppered throughout the city.

He's in for a treat, if we can just sort that video out .

We've never replaced

Neville
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra
Carrick
Scholes
Giggs
Ronaldo (the first time)
Rooney
RVP

Not one player has been bought over the past 10 years that you can say ever truly replaced any of them sufficiently. Just had body after body to just fill the gaps left temporarily

This thread needs to be shut down. The last one of its sort was Sancho and see how he's stinking up the place nad he is someone who actually wanted to join us.

Yes he is a good player but will he have the motivation to actually run do us in this team as it stands?

Another luxury player we don't need

Can't argue with that logic. Absolutely flawless.

If he is too expensive for Barcelona now, he will be too expensive for them next year when his wages go up further still.

He stands to break the new wage structure that is in place by like almost double, new players Barcelona want in will point to his wages.

He simply has to go and it appears we are the only ones seriously in for him, it is a matter of when.

Did Xavi really say "he's not a substitute" after using him as a substitute? Gotta be something lost in translation there.
Was after the game, Xavi and Laporta have egg on their faces after the player they have been trying to force to leave was the best player on the pitch last night. Frenkie looked fired up with a point to prove, if he continues to play that way, there is no way the club can let him go.

Unless they want to buy more players? Reduce the wage bill? Register Kounde?

Kounde can be registered if and when Auba and Memphis leave, Dest also an option to go. Pique and Busquets may revise their contracts also.

Frenkie would only absolutely need to leave if we are to sign Bernardo Silva.

Ultimately it's down to the player himself of course and I think it's crystal clear by now he wants to stay, we shall see.

Good old Pique and Busquets playing for nothing.

Xavi speak with forked tongue. I think he recognizes that Barca may need to offload Frenkie and some subtle (or not so subtle) pressure is being applied.
And if there has to be one thing required is trust between a player and his manager. That's got to be eroded by now. There is no way he can play for his manager now

One would think we'll move heaven and earth this week to get him here. Let's wait what happens
Maybe we should just try for a loan? :D

There will be a whole season for him and Barca to sort out their mess and a whole season to see if he's any good in the PL for us.

Expected, but it's been said before how they tingled around that idea "Chelsea would pay it!".
I would usually care, but feck the Glazers. It's their money. The cnuts should just pay and then hand over all operations to a management team that know what they are doing, and then sell the club.

ETH needs to overhaul the squad over the next 2 years. We need football men supporting him up top, not clowns.

United fans in 2032 : "We wouldn't keep on trying getting him if he didn't send very strong signals to Ten Hag (you remember, the manager that was fired in september of 2022 after 3 months) that he would come!!"
Sometimes our sagas span multiple windows/years.

Herrera
Bruno
Sancho

With FDJ, if he doesn't join this summer he is unlikely to at all.
