Because it's key for why Ajax wants him to stay... In the Eredivisie there are plenty of other options who are good enough to win us matches.. We nééd Antony because he has that special thing, which can be crucial for us how far we will get in the CL, whether we can survive group stages.. Last year he had 6 assists and 2 goals in the CL group stages, which was crucial for why we did so well.. Haller got a lot of attention with the amount of goals, but it was for a large extent due to him pissing in Antony's pre-work.

But anyway.. The reason Schreuder mentions it, is because its the key reason we dont want to lose Antony.
Fair Enough if that' the only reason, if one of the reasons is a dig at United then I would say it's not really good from the Manager then

Personally I hope Antony stays but at 100m euro he is definitely 100% yours. If Ziyech comes (on loan) there will bottles popping in Amsterdam. Sell for a 100m euro, 20m or so goes to Santos and we get an absolute legend back who is still well under 30. Meanwhile we have Conceicao to adjust without pressure and 60m or so to shop around with. Hopefully we can scout some new Antonys and repeat the cycle. Get the new guy in the winter so he has 6 months to adjust to club and country. So yes, we are a feeder club. Thats the business model. We used to shop in the <8m market in latin America (sanchez, martinez), then it became <20m (Alvarez, Neres, Antony) and now we might dip our toes in the 30m market..

However, Ajax is budgetting on a CL level (salary wise). Our filled bank account kind of allows us a season or two without CL but thats about it. No CL? we have to sell.. We sell.. we may not get CL again the next year.. We only get 1 direct CL spot in NL. PSV is breathing in our necks and, as widely reported here as well, we lost half our starting XI.. If we would sell Antony, not get Ziyech and PSV keeps Gakpo they might be favorite this season.. Sure we have more individual quality but a new coach and so many new players.. It's a serious risk.. Also good luck getting top prospects without CL..

Bottom line; if we get 100m and Ziyech (on loan) I would be very, very happy.. No Ziyech.. not so much

On the fee? 100m is completly bonkers. He is good, quite great even but nowhere near a 100m player. Maybe 60.. The original idea was to keep him and hope he shines at the WC and then hope some club would be crazy enough to fork out 80m but I guess Christmas came early

The big dilemma for Ajax is they know they’ll probably never receive that amount of money for Antony again. He may genuinely become worth that in about 5 years but he wouldn’t be at Ajax at that point.

Ajax would be taking a huge risk if they thought they can get a similar fee next summer. I know they don’t need the money but they also have to make good business decisions as well. If they keep him, they’ll have a disgruntled player who probably won’t perform to the level that would invite an £80m bid again next summer.

It’s just the fact they’ve let so many key players go already and it’s so late in the window that is giving them hesitation.

It‘s risky not getting him now. Good chance he‘ll have a good tournament and his worth goes up even more.

Ajax will probably accept a 90 million € total package.

His worth is around 50m now, a good tournament and it goes up to 60-65.

I dont see a 100m player there

Welcome to the forum mate :D

Must be tiresome to lose so many good plyers like you guys have had but still you bounce back strong!

Ajax are world class when it comes to bringing fourth talents, you guys are the ultimate talent factory and your scouts are mint! (mind borrowing some to us?)

Ziyech back to Ajax would be a good move.

How good do you think Antony would do it in the prem?

Even if he's average, he's still better than what we've got so get him in
This is exactly the thinking that has gotten us to where we are today - signing average players cause they are better than the bang average players we already have. If we think he is just an average player why the hell would we want to spend 80-100m on him? He has done nothing to warrant this fee. Paying for potential is one thing but the amounts being quoted is fecking ridiculous. This whole sign a player cause I have worked him before is getting out of hand.

Why is everyone so obsessed with goals/assists stats?

It's like if the player doesn't have a 20 goals and 20 assists in 30 games then we shouldn't be interested.

What happened to signing raw, young talent? What Antony is.

Regards to price, United are going to be paying a premium on all signings this summer no matter who we go for.

Does he want to come? Yes. Does the manager want him? Yes. Will he improve the team? Yes. Will he make our team more balanced? Yes.

this will get done as Ajax will take the money and bring back Ziyech on loan or for a much smaller amount than what was paid for him....in the end it's a win win for Ajax

This looks done. I am happy. None of our attackers have been firing. Need some strong characters and this guy fits the bill. Enough nice guys who wilt under pressure. Bring back the arrogance!

You’re right, he hasn’t done anything but the current crop of players are mentally shot and have completely given up on even trying at this point. Make no mistake about it, we are performing as the worst team in the PL and if they do that for another 25 games this season, we go down to the Championship. That’s not even an exaggeration, these players have fully given up on everything, there’s not even hope left in them.

We need players who won’t fold in that environment and are better than what we currently have, which isn’t hard to achieve right now. If Ten Hag thinks Antony is a player that will at least run himself into the ground then it’s a start and something we can build on.

Possibly old news, but Ziyechs brother has posted up an instagram of Ziyech in an Ajax shirt. Could be indicative we've agreed to overpay for Anto.

Not sure that’s true outside of teams who have a chance of winning it hence it only being the manager saying this and the player himself desperate for a move.
The quality we have signed while not qualifying for the CL the year before is outrageous
The only reason we've been able to do that is because we offered outrageous money. But

This is exactly right and I think it is the reason why we're seeing panic buying. ETH has seen enough in the first two catastrophic games to report back to the board that a large part of the squad are either mentally destroyed or simply not good enough and unless we get new players in immediately then we're facing a bottom half finish with a potential relegation scrap. And then the Glazers can say goodbye to their dividends, super league, TV rights, 6 billion sale etc.

It's why Antony is so valuable to Ten Hag - he knows he can count on him. He already knows Rashford and Sancho are folding under the pressure.

Well said. As a fellow Ajax fan I agree with your point of view. At the quoted prices and Ziyech as his replacement, we have to do this. I would be surprised if this doesn't happen. Ajax and Chelsea not being able to agree terms could be a dealbreaker. I'm pretty sure Ajax and United will find an agreement somewhere this week if Ajax can sign Ziyech.

He's a genius really. Gets paid good money to say things that don't actually mean anything, goes around in circles and when something 'happens' he jumps on it like he has the inside knowledge.

People just want to see 'here we go' desperately.

Excited as hell to see Antony on our RW. haven't had somebody with that kind of flair in a long time.

Very talented but insane amount for him. Raphinha went for 55m, even Richarlison and we're paying 85m for Antony. We'd be better off targeting Pedro Neto instead, who will offer the same characteristics as Antony.

The club and our fans never learn and we continue in this cycle of mediocrity as a result. It's all so tiresome.
