To be fair, 17,000 is about five times Hoffenheims population.
Hopp previously tried to fuse FC Astoria Walldorf, Hoffenheim and Sandhausen to some Village People Heidelberg FC monstrosity, they are aiming for a big reach, maybe even as far North as Wald-Michelbach.

Paulinho seems to have fallen out of favor completely, Adli and Bellarabi are injured for another few months (and we already know Bellarabi will injure himself again 3 weeks after his return) and Hlozek in my opinion is not a winger. That leaves us with Diaby. I think CHO can be a good addition being a counterpart to Diaby since we can now attack on both wings with a lot of pace instead of focusing on the Diaby/Frimpong side only. Should make us more unpredictable offensively.
But where else is Hlozek supposed to play? The center seems kind of locked with Schick/Azmoun and later Wirtz. Adli is supposed to return after the international break, so that's "only" another five games he will be missing.
I guess you can't say many bad things about getting a pacey dribbler for "free" with this loan, but it seems like he will play at the expense of their own talents and then leave for free at the end of the season. Maybe a bit of a panic reaction to their bad start.

Looks like Meunier might transfer after all:

I hope they don't think they can just sell him without a replacement, just because Wolf had 1.5 decent games.

To be fair, Dortmund could sign their bus driver as replacement and they'd have improved their squad.

Hlozek is pretty variable, he can play left wing, attacking midfielder, second striker and lone striker. He's also pretty tall which goes along well with the hoof ball tactics Seoane occasionally relies upon. I wouldn't be too worried about him once he's settled in a bit. Could imagine that Hudson Odoi will start on the right once in a while to rest Diaby, too, since Seoane sometimes plays wingers with their strong foot outside.

But I also think that we have lots of attacking players now. I suspect Azmoun and Adli to be the victims of this. But to be honest, I think Adli is very overrated anyway and Azmoun is still far too wasteful, both in front of goal as well as at retaining possession. So I'm okay with Hudson Odoi possibly robbing them game time. Who I'm more concerned of is definitely Sertdemir. In our current line ups, there's more or less only one position for him (CAM) and it seems like Wirtz, Hlozek, Azmoun and possibly even Adli, Palacios and Demirbay are in front of him.

So yeah, a bit bloated by now but I don't think it is Hudson Odoi who shouldn't be here.

Yeah, that's why Barca are reportedly keen to sign him.
I know. Maybe he's blackmailing them. Laporta had a bruise on the weekend, maybe those things are connected?

Of course, it might also just be that he was scouting Meunier at training. His passing is really, really hazardous to one's health.

Apologies for making this the big Leverkusen day:

Why would they do this? I'm sure he's a decent keeper 95% of the time, but the other times he's a clown and often when it hurts the most. Off the top of my head I remember him giving away a silly goal against Moscow when Leverkusen last played in the CL, he had a comical blunder in their last cup final, he blundered them out of the cup against Essen and then he blundered them out of the cup against Karlsruhe (big club) the following year and of course this season he already had his little red card incident against Dortmund.

GK is more or less the one position in football where everyone can have a "good" player, why would you settle for someone, who - at this point - almost guarantees you that he will choke?

I don't get it either. He's very popular among the team and club officials I believe but at this point, people should know that he's not reliable when it matters the most. Yet there are a lot more incomprehensible decisions regarding Bundesliga players going on the last few days ;)

Love gladbach twitter
Yeah, I saw that as well. Nicely played.
Quite a lot of Buli clubs have good agencies for their English Twitter channels. It mostly manages to be entertaining or banter withouth being too awkward.

I cringe every time I see this. Not necessarily because it's so poorly done, but because it's fake as feck interaction, "banter" on wrestling levels of authenticity and people lap it up. It doesn't represent the clubs in any meaningful way, for all we know it's the same person in charge of both accounts talking to themselves here.

Oh, definitely. But it helps the league's global outreach and I don't follow club's accoounts anyways. I regard it as a working marketing tool. Hey more reach = more money!

Don't get me wrong I think it's good that clubs are doing it, because it's an area where commercial interests can be pushed without affecting the actual football experience too much. I think if anything clubs could or should do much more to create "immersion" for foreigners. Dortmund in particular for example only have one English account (as opposed to US/UK split) and a Japanese one and as far as I can tell the content is just recycling (parts of) the German feed with different captions. No Polish account, even though the club had some of their most popular players for a while and keeps maintaining a bit of a connection with Kuba and Piszczek, no French account, despite having a ton of French (speaking) players and (for a while) three Belgium internationals. No Spanish account. Everyone talks about pushing overseas markets, but they can't even hire a bunch of "influencers" or translators to do content dedicated to them.

What I was criticizing is the consumer perspective.

Unbelivable.. over the course of 16 months he worked his way back from a catastrophic knee injury, to the point where he made the starting lineup for the u23 team a few weeks ago and now he's picked up a bad injury on his other knee.. He probably would have had a genuine chance to play himself back into the squad, too.

Terrible news. Was rooting for him to earn a starting spot again. Always thought he was the only really good RB option Dortmund has but it is a bit naive from them to plan with him. He probably has one of the worst injury histories I know of at his age. Only 22 and was sidelined by injuries for 2.5 years altogether.

What about Semic? Could he become an option this season now?

Dortmund have Wolf and Meunier. Morey (or Semic) was always optional.

Seriously, I think if they didn't hope Morey or Semic would play a bigger role this season, they definitely would've signed somebody as the other two are clearly not up to the job. It is literally the only explanation for why they didn't tackle the most glaring problem in their squad. Especially since Terzic already benched Meunier for Morey during his first tenure as headcoach.

Well if you "seriously" can't comprehend why Dortmund would plan to start Belgium's starting R(W)B, a former PSG player, who also - reportedly - had Man United and Barca make enquiries, then I think it's pretty obvious where the disconnect lies.

You think he's the first player who was signed because of reputation and kept being played because of the sunk cost effect? ;) We're living in the world in which Ali Dia played in the Premier League.

I think the more professional teams show disagreement with you the more it may be in order to consider the possibility that your hyperbolic opinion may not be fact after all.

Do you sincerely believe there's any possibility in two years time whoever bought Meunier from you will not consider the transfer a mistake? Especially with coaches like Ten Hag or Xavi?

Our somewhat rotated lineup continues its scoring prowess from the Gladach game against 3rd tier Viktoria Köln. Viktoria even scored an offside goal, more than we did so far

And as against Gladbach we also see here quite a nice show from the keeper, made some excellent saves now

Don't worry Mane will score his obligatory offside goal to level the score.

Could you get more hypothetical? How would I know how Barca would hypothetically feel two years after a hypothetical transfer? Expectations (should) scale with the amount invested anyway, if you sign a player for €10m to €15m expecting elite performances disappointment is your own fault.

How would I hypothetically feel after hypothetically shooting my foot with a nail gun? I don't think that it'll hurt less because I got it for half the price. Well, maybe a more accurate comparison would be falling for a crypto scam. Of course you're "less disappointed" when you only invested a small sum, but you'll be disappointed anyway ;)

But I'm glad you seem to agree that the real question isn't IF Meunier will be a disappointment but how big of an disappointment he'll be ;)

Designate two teenagers as backup LBs - play Wolf when Guerreiro gets sick.

He is the next Mbappe
Calm down a bit. He clearly is a great talent, but keep in mind that Viktoria Köln is a third-division team (and somewhere mid table level there) and not the level of competition a "next Mbappe" would need to play against to prove himself.

What's up with Malen? Injured? (But I don't see him listed as such on transfermarkt.)
