I couldn’t either, but it’s a bigger picture thing. Probably the most significant event of my lifetime apart from 9/11.
You did not just compare the two, are you out of your effing mind?

It's more symbolic than significant, at least in terms of actual impact on people's lives - from that aspect, you could argue that it's not even the most significant event of 2022.

I think when my grandma died I played football the weekend following. Well, damn. I’m a piece of shit!

Them playing is entertainment. Them training is not.

It's why I'm at 99.9% of people are at work as normal today but there's no live sporting events going on.
Are the pubs closed? Restaurants? Shops? Are you not entertained? Is the nation not do anything entertaining for 10 days?

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

The significant events in your life are things that directly affect YOU.

If you must pick societal events then Brexit, if you’re British, is more significant than either of the examples you’ve stated.

Also, if you’re British, why on Earth is 9/11 one the single most significant events of your life!?

And if you’re NOT British then why is the 96 year old Queen passing away the most significant moment of your life…?

A general election is more significant to you, wherever you’re from - because it will directly affect you.

Although I am not a British citizen but I truly respect the need to stop any game for a week to mark a respect for their Queen. It’s perfectly acceptable.
As a British citizen, I beg to differ.

I can totally understand them cancelling next weekends games as travelling and the amount of policing involved for that weekend is going to be huge and a chaos.

It’s just cancelling this weekends fixture card just makes no sense whatsoever.
My guess would be, because we are run by fecking idiots. I mean, what you say is spot on. Next weekend is when resources will be stretched. So what are they planning to do, call it off for two weeks a row with very little notice? I mean, that makes sense I guess. They never did care about the general public, why would they start now.

With sporting events masses of people can pay their respects and make a poignant contribution together.

What are people going to be doing instead? Sat at home scratching their arse, wandering around a supermarket scratching their arse.

Not, as the hospitality and retail sectors are not closing, just Entertainment.
Very grey definition. Define entertainment vs hospitality. You can go to the pub but no pool or darts? No music? Nightclubs with DJ's cancelled?

I think it was pretty obvious this was going to happen so unsure why everyone appears so shocked and angry.

PS that doesn’t mean I wanted the games called off..

It's a major event, it will be hanging on people's minds, the media, etc. Why can't some of you just accept that maybe some of the players themselves wont be up for it, not to mention the atmosphere will be completely different.

If we're talking significant life events then yeah, this is up there with 9/11 and the first season of Big Brother.

So if 73 year old Charles pops his clogs in a month from now, will we have to endure this nonsense again ?

It’s all easy for you to say. You’re not the one who activated your triple captain this week!

Are you having a laugh?
How can you even compare the two.
9/11 was an absolute mindfeck of monumental proportions, you literally witnessed live on TV thousands of people of all walks of life lose their lives in seconds when those buildings came down.

How can you possibly compare that to a 96 years old woman dying peacefully.

One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read online and believe me, that’s one hell of a feat.

I highly doubt a bunch of 20-30 year old footballers are going to be so moved by the queens death that it affects their ability to play.

9/11 was in its own league, you saw live on TV thousands of people of all walks of life lose their lives in seconds when those buildings came down.

Yeah, it must be horrible for those players. I also think the violent death of 2000 people is very much comparable to the natural passing of a 96 years old woman.
