Pitch looks like 4th division ones. Ball bouncing even for short passes all the time.

You just know Madrid will win. Doesn't matter how they play. They've been convincing maybe twice this season.

Valverde is definitely a CM and not a RW.

3-1 Rodrygo

Brazil fans will be very happy with Rodrygo and Vinicius for years to come.

Have to say I thought Ancelotti was past it in a way that he was no longer in that 'elite managers' category but he came back to Madrid, won La Liga and Champions League and starts his 2nd season with 5 wins out of 5. Well done, Carlo.

Kang-in was the only bright spot against this Real Madrid side. Joint assist leader in La Liga with Joao Felix at 3.

Unless my memory is failing me, this does remind me a lot of his first stint.

Won the CL and Copa in his first year.

Lost a player that was essential to the success (Di Maria) and got James.

Did great up until Christmas in a 442. And then it all came crashing down.

Well he hasn't started failling yet this time so let's see. Will get sacked sooner or later (or leave himself) but it's an impressive job he's done since coming from Everton.

Real Madrid sold both Di Maria and Alonso, and then Modric spent a lot of the season out to injury. So RM played most of that season without the entire starting midfield from the previous campaign. Worse than anything going on right now.

Also it should be said that their record after Christmas was actually pretty good, 17W 2D 4L, 2.3 ppg. Barcelona were just on God mode.

Interesting stats regarding Madrid and difference between first and second halves.

So far they have played 7 official games with 7 wins. 20 goals scored, 6 in the first half and 14 in the second half. Also, 5 goals conceded in the first half and 0 in the second half. So it's basically 6-5 and 14-0 which is a massive difference.

Yeah, a lot has been talked about how physically they're just on another level to most other teams in La Liga. They just batter teams in the last third of a game.

I think their good streak comes to an end against Atletico though.

Again, my memory might be failing me :p

Iirc Bale was injured first and Carlo switched to a 442 with Isco-Kroos-Modric-James and that team went on a great run as well. Even beat Barcelona and Liverpool with that setup. Then Bale got fit and complained to Perez about not starting. He got back into the team and Modric was also out as you said.

Hopefully they keep this up, lets see.

That's my memory too, but I think it's one of those cases where the narrative overtook reality. Because looking at transfermarkt, the Bale injury only lasted three league matches (8 to 10), then Modric got injured and missed matchdays 12 to 26, then 33 to 38. So the 442 must have only played a few matches together.

I hope Vinicius scores a hat-trick and dance in front of Atetico's bench looking directly at Griezmann.

The level of racism in Spain sometimes astonishes me. That the guy said that on national TV without any care in the world is mindboggling. Worst thing is that he'll get away with it.

There's a whole hashtag #BailaViniJr used by Neymar, Pelé and many other brazilians + a communicado official from Real:

The game is going to be tasty, hopefully he shut them all up

Is monkey in that context even racist? In German you'd say "make a monkey of yourself" for make a fool of yourself without any racial undertone

Could be lost in translation but I’ve never heard of don’t make a monkey of yourself as a way to say don’t make a fool of yourself. There are other contexts where the use of monkey isn’t racist but this doesn’t feel like it’s one of them, unless it’s a Spanish saying I’m not aware of.

Using a monkey analogy when talking about a rival black player when there's history of monkey chants and throwing bananas on the pitch in LaLiga is at the very least beyond stupid or, just racist.

He posted that earlier:

Ancelotti and Florentino about to join him on the pitch and show their moves :D

In Germany using monkey in that sense is absolutely racial, too.
That we use the word monkey in other context does not change that. You can call a white person monkey but you mean that because of just a special behaviour without being "racial". But that is just a different thing.

The expression as he explained on Twitter is basically a synonym for don't make nonsenses, it was more the tone, the "do it in your country" that is off-putting.
Besides Koke, when asked about it already implied that there will be trouble, but Atleti are incapable of showing authority with the Frente Atlético, who recently had a row with Gerard Moreno for celebrating a goal, or with their own player Hermoso.
They will do the monkey chant obviously and I hope they get the stadium shut down. And I hope he scores and dances

The whole thing is just insane to me. It's a freaking short dance, at the corner flag, celebrating a goal. What exactly is offensive about that????

Fecking hell :houllier: :houllier: :houllier:

Good on the club for reacting by suing the racist moron

Dance Vini dance! Several times tomorrow!

Especially since they have „Mr 30 minutes“ in their team who’s doing stupid video game dances.

Yeah no. There's absolutely no intrinsic connection between the 'insult' monkey and any particular race or heritage in German, and I'd struggle to name examples where it's been used that way in the past.
Either way, the use in Spanish is completely different so this is besides the point anyway
