Fact remains that it is going to be hard for Ronaldo to find a team in January. He knows that. It won't stop him from doing this interview. Now the ball is in our court, what do we do?

There are a few options:
-We/Mendes find a buyer.
-We terminate Ronaldo's contract on grounds of him breaching it. Grounds? Walking off, claiming to be sick for our last game when he wasn't, acting to hurt the Club's reputation.
-We mutually agree with Ronaldo to terminate his contract. This can include us paying him of partly or fully.
-We "keep him" (i.e. we fail to sell him and his contract is not terminated). This leaves four options:
(a) We go on with him on the squad, let him train with the club and play when needed.
(b) We remove him from training with the big club and let him train with the youth team or whatever. Ronaldo gets paid if he reports, he doesn't get paid if he doesn't.
(c) We suspend him for as long as it is possible, the reminder of his contract (would that be possible? I am not sure if our suspension/fining options are limited in the contracts).
(d) Ronaldo refuses to report after the WC, and sits out until his contract runs out.

From our perspective, I am sure that we want to get out of his contract, and rather quickly at that, so that we can replace him in January. That does complicates things. It would be really easy for us to go, Ronaldo passed the line here, we will sell him if we can, if we can't sell him he is off the team, he can show up at Carrington and put in the hours between 08.00 and 17.00 training by himself or with the youths if he wants to, in which case he will be paid, or he may opt to not do so in which case he won't be paid. Ronaldo would never report and effectively he is of the books. But in this case nothing is ever settled before the January window closes.

Is there enough grounds for us to terminate the contract? I don't know. I think there is. But I don't know how much of a hassle it would be. If there are any risks. If there are any set procedures to go through.

Personally, I wonder if its not just best to flat out terminate the contract. Be proactive with the press, say that we assume that this is what both parties want. Ronaldo clearly doesn't want to be here, so we recon its a mere formality for us to terminate the contract. Give him the WC to audition for a new contract with a CL team. We would probably end up playing parts of his salary after a settlement for wrongful termination, which we would never hear about since its to be settled and confirmed by an arbitration board covered by confidentiality. Ronaldo gets a new contract somewhere in January, if he is free he is free. Someone would pick him up. Just for the sale of jersey's alone. Ronaldo's damages is the difference between what he makes at his new club and what he would have made here. He is going to get a hefty salary at his new club for sure. A third or half of what he made here? Our settlement with him would at worst be what, 50% of the damages? That is like 25% of his salary. We should be able to count on 75% of his contract being available to sign a new striker in January. Like a Depay on loan or whatever to back-up Martial. From a financials point of view -- we own the initiative if we terminate Ronaldo's contract. If we claim that we have legit grounds for it, we can put it "below the line", i.e. we recognize that there is a risk for us to pay damages, but his contract comes directly off the books, at least until a potential settlement is reached.
Keep him but suspend him for 6 months and dock him 6 months pay

I really do wonder what post retirement will look like for Ronaldo. When all his fanboys eventually move on to Mbappe & Haaland in a year or 2. It happens to all the legends. They canonly be paraded around as ambassadors for so long till no one is falling over backwards for them.
Will any club want him associated with them as some kind of faux director stealing limelight and attention?
I don’t see management happening either.
If Woodward was still around he'd probably have made him player manager by now

The full interview hasn't even aired yet?

So all these reaction videos and headlines are all just click bait and the mob falls for it again. There's nothing new about Ronaldo here in headlines and excerpts from this interview. He's self absorbed, self-aggrandizing , selfish and generally speaking kind of a d*ck.

Quite interested to hear more about the club facilities and overall internal workings. I've been wanting someone who knew the club back from SAFs time to speak up on this stuff for a while. Didn't hear anything from Rooney or Ole so third time's the charm. Glazers on the other hand are a serious issue that everyone needs to be focused on. Ronaldo is a moot point but he'll get the focus , both because he wants it and because the majority are too fat from addiction to reality tv, star power drama to indulge in anything but

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
So sad. It's as if he has some sort of brain damage, Ronaldo. How dumb can he be.
Like a lot of top athletes and celebs, lives in a bubble and generally surrounded by people who just say “yes, you’re right”.

Thats great for your ego but not good for balance and making smart decisions. I think if most of us knew someone like that (unlikely? :) ), we’d say “just say all this to the club and ask for a way out but behind closed doors…. Plus don’t get interviewed by Piers Morgan, he’s a cnut!”

I'm just going on The Caf
Just said now on sky sports he was told he wasn't being picked against villa in the cup, he then said he was ill and United haven't seen him since. The bloke is a coward and a narcissist, he's come out with this rubbish knowing he'll be away from Old Trafford for a good while.
I don't know or care where he ends up next, the last thing Potter needs at Chelsea is this soap opera.

Sorry Portugal fans, but I hope they go out early in the world cup. Would be hilarious with the added bonus of Dalot and Bruno coming back early. Extra cherry on top if Argentina win the whole thing

Hes comparing Ronaldo to Batman like hes some misunderstood vigilante.

His youtube reaction focused on Ronaldo highlighting the facilities issues more than him being a complete dickhead. So yeah Goldbridge is a dumb cnut.
Nah, he just is feathering his nest by not angering someone he probably wants to try and interview at some point.

The club, legends and even we the fans created the environment for his entitlement. This thing didn't come out of nowhere. Honestly annoyed about his fans and friends in the media attacking anyone who simply dared to ask he be held accountable. You'd think it was a year since his last tantrum, it was two bloody weeks ago, we never left the saga, never even got resolved yet the crap for brains fanboys thought everything would go back to normal leaving it unaddressed. Because a fine was going to correct his belief that he was bigger than his role.

I’d prefer it if they went on to win it and he fecked off into the sunset to PSG or something personally

I really miss the days when Chinese teams handed out a massive salaries for average players.

No doubt we could have shipped Ronald off to China where he'd be on a million a week.

A shame this has got people talking not the fact we have a prodigious young talent in Garnacho who looks like the real deal. This Ronaldo shit is so tedious, just feck off already.

What’s most annoying by this whole saga is attention should have been on a potentially iconic moment in our clubs history with the arrival of a potential superstar. Yet no one is talking about Garnacho’s moment. Just all about this spanner.

Normally, there is a clause in player contracts that is ment to prevent players from dragging the organisation through the mud, isn't there? I wonder if the club can find legal support for sacking him. Do we smell a court case here?

Sourness is quite right. Ronaldo has every right to air his grievances. But in a private meeting with ETH, Mortough and Arnold. That’s the professional way to do it. Not in a media interview ffs!

It would be interesting to see if Souness had the same train of thought if one of his Liverpool darlings did the same thing? Would he back Salah in the same situation?
No. Salah isnt white.

No chance PSG would want him. In fact I don't think any big club would be in for him.

Our best hope is if he drops his wage demands and goes back to Sporting, or failing that he just collects a silly paycheck from a team in the Middle East or China.

This is his last restore attempt to get out of his contract. Perfect timing on his part. Mendes has over a month to work his magic. He knows ETH does not want him. He knows he's lost support in the dressing room. He knows the team are better without him. He knows his time as a top player is over. He's acting like a child and it's only going to harm his attempts to find a new club in January. What club in their right mind would take on this drama queen? Chelsea are probably the most likely and I hope they do so we don't have to deal with his antics anymore.

ETH has already dropped him once and was probably told to bring him back so it helps his chances of moving on in January. Then he turns around and pulls this stunt. SAF should have known better than to lobby for him to come back. Him playing for City at the end of his career would have done less damage to his legacy as a United player than this has. It would have done a lot less damage to United in terms of rebuild as well but I do think we may still have had Ole as manager if Ronaldo never returned. I guess it's little price to pay in the end. Good riddance.

The worst thing about this Interview is that he takes away a big moment and night from young Alejandro Garnacho.

And when United had the game of the season(s) against Spurs where we control the game against a top 6 club from start to finish this man child storms off, not supporting his teammates.

Ronald Trump - Man child and Narcissistic.

I still have the final saved on my computer strangely, haven't watched it since the day though.

I remember Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs taking penalties, I can't remember the other takers though.
Hargreaves scored.

I’m surprised people are so angry at Ronaldo.

While it was crossing the line criticizing ETH, you can see why he said what he said. He is trying to leave on a free. That’s the only way he has any chance of finding a decent club to sign him this year.

what’s more worrying for me is the revelations of just how bad the club is run and how we are stuck in a time zone of 20 years ago with no evolution. It also worries me more that the younger players have been accused of being dismissive and not open to mentorship.

No doubt he was talking about Greenwood.

Those comments hurt me the most rather than anything he said about the manager or senior officials or rooney etc.

Ronaldo needs to leave and WILL leave. Anyone who watches us already knew since last year. He was only a stop gap.

But moving into the future and actually having hope of us getting back to the top? It seems like it’s still far away with the infrastructure and youth being so below standard.
Oh ... So this is the first time you've heard about this issues with the running of the club? Behave

And our youth being so below standard while Garnacho is tearing it up, with the likes of Amad, Hannibal, Laird, Fernandez doing the same on loan. What on earth are you on about? :houllier:
