The guy was being an idiot .. come on.. he wasnt sitting in the Ecuadorian section.. he was sitting among the home fans, or at least a neutral section where there will be a lot of home support.. and making a gesture (I'm not sure what it was , but probably after the disallowed goal suggesting the ref was bribed maybe? )

It was a stupid thing to do.. He was clearly trying to get a reaction..
Seconded. He was being a dick

I’m amazed the amount of people here who can’t even understand that. Then again, this is the cafe..

Ah, yes. Blame the victim of unnecessary violence. Not the people who cant take a bit of banter. Always Blame the victim.
In fairness, you can tell once he gets a reaction it dawns on him he shouldn't be fecking around with his kids there. Banter or not, security would be entitled to remove him.

Even in a Europe you wouldn't go into the away end and start winding up the fans. It's a dumb thing to do.

Reminds me of Uruguay-England in 2014. When England got the equaliser I realised I was in a 90%+ English section... but it didn't stop me chanting they weren't singing any more after the second

Once emotional people make up their minds about something, it’s hard for them not to see everything through that lense. Confirmation bias at its finest. Seeing some really dodgy ”bantz” in here too but let’s not get into that.

Try to entertain 2 thoughts at the same time. The ultimate victim here would be the daughter. To be fair, I don't believe anything is going to happen to him, but it is at best reckless in such a country. You don't need to bring your kid along when you intend to provoke people, knowing very well there might be risk for repression. This is of course no excuse for that possible violence...

He's celebrating the goal and the Qataris around him take exception.
he’s not celebrating he’s doing a bribery action with his hands and heckling.

Clearly he winds up the local and then realises he needs to try and calm him down. Doing that with your young daughter next to you?! idiotic

Thats a tad xenophobic. They aren't known for violence against kids.

It's hardly the ultra section. But if someone did that in Germany I wouldn't be surprised if someone behind that person accidentally let his beer slip.

Are Senegal that good without Mane? It could come down to GD between them and Ecuador

Why would he be a dick for having his kids there?

He was being a dick for trying to get a rise out of the Qatari fans next to him. It's funny how sheepish he looked sitting down at the end, not realising somebody might say something.
Looked like banter got out of hand and he was trying to calm the Qaren down?

nobody is saying they’ll hurt the daughter. but the dad might get dragged out and beaten. what’s the 4 year old gonna do then when her daddy is in hospital?

I guess this is a good indication of the game that the last 2 pages are about a tweet and not the actual match.

“Even”? European countries are undisputed champions of football related violence

That's very civilised. At La Bombonera they would piss on you from the next tier.

It seems to be the standard all the critics are using.

Were those Qatar fans or fans from other nations dressed in generic Qatar t-shirts?

I meant violence against him, the adult provocateur. In a country with poor judicial and rule of the law record, it is more likely you'd get attacked for such gestures... But yes, it wouldn't be smart in most western countries either...

I know Qatar are utter wankers but is the "All Arab countries are the same" stuff really necessary? Some of you are making references to Saudi Arabia when mentioning Qatar and I'm not quite understanding it.

This is hilarious.. Have you guys seen any football? The fan reaction in the English leagues or anywhere in Europe/South America would have been far worse..
A guy telling him to shut up is probably the nicest reaction he could have hoped for ..

But because its Qatar its scary all of a sudden..
