Good game for England. Looks like the WC being in mid-season at least helps in players looking sharper.

Baffling score line given the flow of the game.

Shaw Rashford and Maguire the best of a bad bunch.

Anyone else irrationally (and disproportionately) annoyed we conceded the second? VAR cnuts!

Netherlands next. First team we'll be seeing in the tournament that has a chance at winning the competition.

Should be interesting.

Vincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn is the best frontline the Netherlands can come up with for a World Cup?

Jesus Christ, international football really is just cack now, isn't it?

Early days and tougher opponents to come up next, but that was a strong performance from England. The team looked fresh and hungry, the tactics looked good, and the overall performance showed a group of players both confident in themselves and trusting their teammates.

Rashford scored, Shaw and Maguire with assists, a good outcome for the United boys. Hope they keep it up.

Bellingham has the potential to become an outrageous midfielder, hasn't he?

We're going to have to be an awful lot better at the back. Iran has 22% of the ball, scored two goals and should have had at least 1 more.

He's played extremely well in the first half.
That's in line with my second point. I've never seen him play well, I post it quite regularly here. Always seems to have good games when I don't watch. Just one of those players I've never seen play well.

Not going to get carried away with the result but definitely enjoyed the game. Look good going forward. Maguire looks a different player for England. Is Pickford really the best England have at No1? Can’t wait for the next game. Our last game against USA in the WC was awful. Germany 2008 I think.

Memphis isnt fully fit and is the main striker.

Yeah was the Rob Green classic. 2010 though (08 was the Euros that England didn’t qualify for).

Great win for England. I think we are one of favourites for WC now (even though the opponents is very weak)
that's how it starts, but you'll all be losing your shit when you don't even make the quarter finals.
heh heh heh

Yeah it wasn't quite the Mount masterpiece, and he did go quiet in the second half but I would say that was a good game from him. I think his best position is an 8 in a 433, which is what he played today. I don't think the back 3 that both Southgate and Chelsea have been playing has helped him flourish.

I've been saying for as long as I can remember that Pickford is so not the best England have. Pope is way better and so is Henderson (but you're not allowed to say that here so I won't)

Holland have been a bit of a dull team in recent years, haven't they? Not expecting anything overly entertaining from them this evening.

To be honest I get the impression Mount is in the side more for everything other than his ability in the final third or on the ball. He's Southgate's safety net in midfield that runs around.

If you were going for all out attack you'd go Maddison when fit or even Foden centrally.

That Holland squad doesn’t look great does it

Something about Holland at the World Cup though I’ve always looked out for them

I think Gareth sees him as a Henderson replacement when he plays a midfield three. Do the grunt work that Foden/Maddison/Grealish won't give in that CAM spot.

Still though... England brought Rashford, Wilson, Grealish and Foden off of the bench. It's a massive gulf in forward quality.
I mean, you have to compare the two leagues. The Premier League is so far ahead of the Eredivisie.

Yes you’re right 2010 it was. That Rob Green incident was a proper head in hands moment. Did he ever play for England again after that?

Yeah, fair enough, but even with him, it just feels like we're far from the days of them having a Van Basten/Bergkamp/Van Nistelrooy/Van Persie up top.

Feels as though they're as likely to score from Dumfries knocking in a Blind cross than anything their actual attackers are going to produce.
