The idea Ronaldo wasn't scoring goals this season is because he didn't care is nonsense.

He wasn't scoring goals because he's finished at this level.

He was just as bad at the World Cup as he has been for Utd all season.
Yeah, it’s a pretty wild theory when talking about a player who lives for scoring goals. He is never going to not care about scoring, no matter his situation.

Everything about his decline is due to age (and probably the stupid decision to miss pre-season at his age); Loss of pace, balance and timing.

Exactly, it's like people don't see what kind of character Ronaldo is. He'll do anything for a goal in official games, just isn't as good at getting them as until recently. He'll never not care on the pitch. He thought Ole was the right man even though we were getting embarassed and for one reason - he scored lots of goals and was undroppable.

So we gotta let the racist comments go unnoticed to prove we don’t support abhorrent Arab regimes… Does this logic apply elsewhere? Does one also have to tolerate antisemitism to prove one is not a supporter of the apartheid regime in Israel?
Obviously not, it’s a wider observation. Saying something like camel shaggers is clearly xenophobic.

MLS is higher quality, more (fading) top level players, some young talent and disorganised defences, it’s an entertaining league.

The reason he was never going to MLS - and the only thing worse for him than Messi winning the World Cup - is the world would be talking about the time he admitted to raping someone.
I thought that case was settled. Although I will admit I don't know enough of the details behind it.

I recommend a Google search for Cristiano Ronaldo and Kathryn Mayorga and to do a bit of reading on it. The case may be settled in the courts but Ronaldo's own explanation of what happened is quite informative.

They're already top of the Saudi League. I wonder how much credit he'll take if they go on to win it.

Apparently Ronaldo has a clause in his contract that could see him return to the premier league. If Newcastle get top 4 they might loan him as they’re owned by Saudis too.

Quite sure these clauses are made up on the spot by journalists. You don't pay 200m a year salary to promote your league only to loan him off in 6 month's time to another league where he'll be coming off the bench in the 80th min in place of Joelinton & Almiron. Even the Saudi's should be able to see he's not going to add value to the current Newcastle team and in fact will regress them back into the Championship.

Wouldnt it be funny if Saudi bought ManUnited, we finished top 3 and the next season AlNassr loaned Ronaldo to United.

What a tragic ending for him from a sporting perspective. Funny actually.

Spectacular collapse all of his own doing as well

I actually hope this happens - he'll take someone's spot in that frontline, be incredibly poor as usual while you'll see the collective form of the likes of Almiron and co take a nosedive. One potential contender set back 2 years (sometimes I reckon this is what City suckered us into).

Excellent.

That should quell any potential threat Newcastle pose when he destroys their tactics and dressing room morale. Might even get the over performing Eddie Howe removed as a Brucie bonus.

That clause in his contract is the cherry. Hilarious if Newcastle would be forced to take him and he’s already let his new fanbase know that he couldn’t care less about this ‘new adventure’.

This will be like the Chinese League a few years ago: a lot of good transfers, generated some interested who lasted a couple of months and then it returned back to the obscurity.

Hmm that could be but Saudi is throwing a lot of money at a lot of different things right now in the entertainment world. I find it difficult to see how it will sustain myself. If they were in UEFA I could see it but you're at a disadvantage in Asia as is

Ronaldo has become a laughing stock in the footballing world
Only pointing this out because I dont want this place (or thread) to become an echo chamber, but this is the only place where people laugh at him. Everywhere else it's just normal news.

Nah it's pretty much everywhere that I frequent (Reddit, Twitter, Facebook etc).

The comments are all pretty much mocking the transfer.

And a lot of the comments here are similar.

Cristiano Ronaldo being foisted upon Eddie Howe is frankly the kind of ass clownery I expected from Saudi ownership. Its been too much sensible work until now that it felt like a pipe dream to expect that kind of self sabotage.

Yeah, it's brutal. This forum is actually quite mild and composed on comparison. You get the sense that people are a little more hurt in here because of the previous legend(debatable) status, though.

It's disbelief. Only thing funny is the fact that he had to backtrack on his own dreams.

He's 38 though. And over the hill.

I think if he did not have a big mouth, no one would have batted an eyelid with this transfer.

Yet less 3 months ago he decided to have a go against one of the biggest clubs in the world, telling them that they were beneath him. A few months later and he's semi retired.

As long as United get top 4 then I really hope he ends up at Newcastle as he will totally disrupt and feck up everything Howe is trying to do with the squad as he will make it all about him again.

Well yeah it's disbelief due to the ridiculous events which have transpired (The interview etc) and people have a tendency to find ridiculous things amusing.

I can't even imagine what they say about him on opposition forums and I'd bet good money they are laughing a lot more/ harder than this forum.

The idea is not to be sustainable, but to have expensive PR tools.
