Well Jordan said himself that it was silly?
Right. Then the actual point made by the player is silly. The point made by Simon, different from that made by the player, is ok. I agree with that.

Yes but that is not what the player actually said... Eric made it about nationality and he is wrong. Jordan talks about a scenario that did not actually happen. A football player complains about xenophobia of a club based on passport; that player is fecking wrong. There was a problem with one specific player being played; not with a club being racist or some other dark forces.
Was it really an issue of one specific player being played? One could suggest we’d never pay as much for someone as limited as AWB if he wasn’t English. Shaw is another story.

I think we paid as much for AWB because we made that stupid mistake of buying from English clubs an English player, yes. They come at a premium because English clubs have a lot of money and all PL clubs need to have a certain number of English players. I am of the opinion we should never buy an English player unless he is truly exceptional, like a Rooney or Ferdinand. The quota of English players should be mostly made up by academy players and then buy value for quality foreigners.

I might be completely wrong, but I rather suspect it was something that was initially being pushed by Mike Phelan.
That is not impossible at all.

But then again, both Ole and Phelan come from the same place in terms of obvious influences: they both (presumably) learned a lot from a certain great manager - and they both (probably, likely) look at the way that manager assembled his teams as something of an ideal to strive for.

So, if Phelan pushed for it - my guess is that Ole would go along with it readily enough.

And - again - it is not a stupid idea in itself.

Is that true now, though? I mean most of the biggest signings, in terms of transfer fees, have actually been foreign players - we just shelled out €100m for Antony and €65m (or something like that) for Martinez. These are massive sums.

Barcelona have so many I can't even be bothered to list, but none of them have lived up to expectations. Real Madrid just shelled out €100m for Tchouameni.

It isn't particularly foreign players who are cheap; it is players who are next to unknown. Vardy - £1m ; Robertson (I know he is Scottish, but still makes the point) - £8m etc. These type of players do exist in the UK also.

Sometime yes, sometimes no. Exceptional talent costs a lot. English mediocre talent costs too much every time for the reasons I wrote.

Oh I quite agree.

It was a strategy that didn’t last very long though. Maybe someone on the board noticed that we were paying a huge English premium which wasn’t sustainable.

Haha, your math skills are also an interesting opinion. Ole is 1. Rangnick is 2.
Math skills?

Rangnick took over from Solskjaer and was manager for most of last season mate. No idea why you are counting Carrick's 3 games in a week as caretaker.

But having said that of those 3 games Carrick only played Bailly once so he didn't seem to trust him all that much either so...

And then he wonders why he is never trusted as a starter during the rare time he’s not injured. Such a waste of talent.

Six appearances since his move. The problem with French teams is they always favour French players.

Not a foul for me, if we're going to start giving red cards for that sort of thing then we might as well make it a non contact sport.

Please tell me his loan deal had an obligation to buy in it?

Can’t be arsed with guys like him coming back in the summer to rock the boat with shit takes and even shitter performances.

Just cancel his contract before he leaves France.

Pretty much sums him up. He could look like a brilliant CB at times but you always felt he was only a few games away from injuring himself, someone else or getting himself sent off. Looks like he managed all three in one go there.

He’s joking, because Bailly said that about English played in England, and that was the only reason he couldn’t get a game apparently.
I forgot about that one.:nervous:
