The "extreme consequences" of being in a very good position going into the second half of the season and maybe having to scrimp a bit on our backup striker option?
Makes Martin Edwards look like Mister Conspicuous Consumer.

I mean a 6 foot 6 target man isn't really the type of player I associate United, think that people's issues with Fellaini but I trust Ten Hag's judgement and it's a low risk deal.

I like this signing,

- I trust Ten Hag 100%
- we have lots of games coming in
- the ‘easier ‘ games will be more physical
- he will help bring Sancho and Garnacho into the game
- Shaw has a good cross on him

His goal today. Keeper made a hash of it but Weghorst’s movement is quality.

That's a beautiful little run, that. Reminds me of the kind of movement Chicharito would make.

Often in football it’s all about variety and having different options and an element of unpredictability. That’s what he would give us. He’s not the type or quality of player I’d associate with us, but we are looking at an impact sub, and a player to rotate, and he represents variety in the sense that he is a clear “plan B”. When you have a manager like Ten Hag - who is very tactically precise and detail orientated - you just know he will have a game plan, movement, strategy in place to make him effective. He’ll be there to hold the ball up and bring others into play, and to provide an aerial threat. The sort of player who will thrive on the cut inside left foot crosses Antony likes to deliver, and those beautiful whipped in balls from deep that we’ve been seeing from Casemiro. His presence, in certain matches, can open up space in front of the defence - because his aerial threat will require both centre halves to sit deeper and be alert to crosses from deep - that a player like Bruno can thrive on exploiting.

I don’t want to overplay his potential impact, because It’s not the sort of signing to change the direction of blood flow, but it is the sort that might be quietly effective across the course of a densely packed schedule. In short (ironically), I tentatively approve of this, even if I am not excited by it. For our needs, I think it makes more sense than Felix. Who despite being technically excellent, is a deep lying forward who doesn’t really help us lead the line.

Wout, and Felix for 3-4 mil in loan fee would give us a lot of attacking options. Felix could play as secondary striker / no 10 with Wout in front.

Besides, we need cover for Bruno as he will need to be rotated, if we want to finish the season strong.

People will scoff at this, but the truth is that we have limited cash in the bank, and we need a number 9 to lead the line for the remaining 4 months of the season. Weghorst is a huge, ball playing target man. He caused us alsorts of problems at turf moor. He was decent in the World Cup and has scored 9 goals with 4 assists for Besiktas this season. Ten Hag proved what he could do with Haller last season, so I will trust him 100%
Martial is injury prone, and is not an natural number 9. He doesn’t make those runs into the box, he doesn’t anticipate mistakes, and he doesn’t give central defenders a torid time like a 6ft 5 Weghorst would, so let’s roll the dice and see what happens.

Judging by his skillset, maybe its the case of being at the right club at the right time. Or in his case, wrong club.
Not sure why he failed at Turf Moor but he has something to bring to United for sure.

When he costs next to nothing, the only way is up. We need him and another loanee at least.
Fully expecting us to go all in for Felix (well if leeches allow it), if not still think we could get Depay back

Except the loan fee is 2-3x that

So the next time one of you starts posting during summer windows that 'i don't care how much it takes, just get him'' or ''the glazers are haggling over a few million?'' Or ''its not my money so I don't care''.

Now you know the extreme consequences of the 'just pay whatever it takes' approach.
No because if we would have done that for a solid striker we wouldn’t be doing this?

People will sneer at the link because of the type of player he is but I think this is probably the type of player Ten Hag has always wanted as his plan B striker. He's physical, good aerially and will cause a bit of chaos in the box. I'm not sure if there's much substance to the story though, it's all based off that celebration?
“We missed Fellaini’s aerial threat”. Good old times! :D

Besiktas have him on loan with obligation to buy. I dont really see how we can worm our way in here unless we have to pay Besiktas off. Which would be hilarious.

Well like Stone's article on BBC says there will have to be discussions between all three clubs

And Fele was hated on for odd reasons. We could have honestly used a player like that now. that's why I'm excited about this signing.

At worse he'll be our version of Nunez without the fee!

He's in no way shape or form similar to Nunez.

No harm here, little money, and a good option.. you try these things and see how they go.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out.

Ugh. So much for making a title run.

This smells so much like Glazer stink I think I just threw up in my mouth. The best thing that could possibly happen is that they sell the club pronto.

Reminds me of the Ighalo loan. Makes no sense to me.
I've said this before but I actually thought he was underutilised by Ole and would be exactly the type of player ETH would like to have in the squad.

So if this transfer happens, I wouldn't mind it in the slightest. If he can control a ball, hold it, pass it back and can move in and around the 18 yard box with some finishing, that's good enough for me. Sometimes less is more.

Will remind you of this post if he pops up with an important goal or two in next few months

We overspent in the summer, we don't have much cash and the owners are looking to sell so the best we could hope for is a low-cost loan and generally clubs don't loan out players without significant fees unless those players aren't that good, so given those conditions this wouldn't be a bad pick-up at all. If he can come in and eat up some substitute minutes as either a more direct option or to give Martial a rest then hopefully that can help in making top 4 this season and then that gives the club a chance to identify our next number 9 in the summer.

It's not ideal that the recruitment policy for all of the changes made behind the scenes still largely seems to be asking Ten Hag if he knows any Dutch or former Ajax players but seeing us through to the summer would give the club the chance to show more imagination then with much greater resources to utilise.
