That'd be a big surprise. So far EtH has consistently not given early starts to new arrivals - remember how long it took before Casemiro was starting? Even when players return from injury or other absences, he hasn't jumped at the first opportunity.

Martial is very good at holding up the ball and in link-up play generally, IMO.
3 out of ETH signings so far have started the first game they've been available. Eriksen, Martinez and Antony. I'd say only Antony and Casemiro are comparable as they both signed after the season had started. But one went straight into the team and the other had to wait, but he hasn't consistently left new signings out is the point I was making.

I think there's a slight difference between starting Casemiro starting and Wout - in the sense Wout has already played in the PL, the striker role is very different to that of a central midfielder (in the sense it's much more complex) and possibly even the language barrier that needed to be overcome first as well (from both an on-the-pitch communication with teammates, and what ETH expects of them. Wout's English is fine, plus of course they could communicate in Dutch if it wasn't entirely clear what ETH wants from him)

I reckon both Wout and Garnacho will start on Wednesday, giving Rashford a rest and Martial obviously needs a rest as well after his energy-busting display against City as well.

I think Wout will be a good "half a season stopgap signing" for us. Brings something different and works like a maniac while on the pitch.
Martial needs rest and can't be trusted for 90 minutes twice a week.

Yeah he does play new signings, especially if they had played under him at Ajax (Martinez and Antony obviously players while he was there, and Eriksen trained there for a bit before going to Brentford). In Casemiro's case, McTominay was doing well initially and Casemiro didn't do that great in his appearances off the bench, looking off the pace.

Whether Weghorst starts, I reckon, depends on how he's doing in training.

Eriksen and Martinez were pre-season arrivals, so that's obviously a different situation. You're right about Antony though, I forgot about that.

I think it might be time for him to head back to Burnley before the Stretford End remembers all these lyrics but I'm all for it! When are the rehearsals?

Will be interesting to see him play.

Hardly a player whose progress I have followed closely, I'll admit.

When he came on against Argentina, I thought of it as a hail Mary move on LVG's part: throw on a big fecker and hope he gets his noggin on something (which he actually did).

But based on limited research, he isn't actually that sort of player. Which is interesting. But he's hardly a prospect (I honestly thought he was younger).

Anyway, I trust ETH - and this guy has to be his choice.

I dunno, if he does well - perhaps he can become a permanent back-up option for us (for a couple of seasons or so).

What's the deal with the anti-vax thing, though?

I can't be arsed to look into it.

Is he some kind of nutter in that regard?

I would start wout. Arsenal's your typical Southern softies. A bit of elbows and they then to cower as proven in the past.
Wouldn't say Saliba/Gabriel are that soft but he could definitely give them problems

I don’t really understand the people who are saying he is a bad header. He is actually a really good header of the ball.

He is not the standard bulk gym bro or natural born hulk some of the strikers are nowadays, but his positioning is great and accuracy with the header is actually really good.

I think he scored at least a quarter of his goals with his head. And the best thing about him is that bruno fernandes is probably going to be a much bigger goalthreat since his link up play and pressing lead to a lot of good scoring chances for his nr. 10 usually.

Don’t look a gift horst in the mouth.

But seriously, he is good in the air, he’s not a typical target man though.

United minus the Glazers
At least there’s no chance of him turning out to be another Lukaku type of player gor us given he isn’t a typical target man

Love seeing this stat. While obviously skill and world class ability in a squad takes a team to new heights, you also require grafters and players with the work ethic of weghorst. Fergie valued that in our best teams and it seems ten Hag will as well. I have a feeling that weghorst will make a significant enough impact on this loan to justify a permanent deal.

It’s clear to me that ETH wanted him because he works hard for the team and presses all day. Should fit into the system quite well.

Half season trial, can see him being part of the squad permanently if he's able to show he can impact games - particularly from the bench. With Martial injured he's probably going to be starting a lot of games but beyond this season I'm sure we'll be looking for a new striker to have that starter role - so he's got a chance to show he can be an effective squad player alongside the new main striker signing.

He posted some conspiratorial crap on Twitter along the lines of imagine a vaccine so poorly made that you have to be forced to take it for a disease so deadly you need a test to see if you actually have it. He since regrets saying it and has said nothing about it since.

He hasnt been vaxxed though, but he's hardly alone in that regard, quite a few Dutch players havent been I believe.

Covid is so 2022 anyway feck it.

So ... he's full of freedom and liberty vibes now since he has not been injected by Bill Gates' mind control nanobots.

At Alkmaar, Wolfsburg, and Besiktas, they used the same chant. I would like us to use the same one. Weghorst on fire, your defense are terrified.

Love that tune and it always build an immense atmosphere. First heard this chant in the 2018 World Cup when England fans was belting it out in every pub. ‘Vardys on fire’

Very true but generally we adopt new chants

Fair enough, then.

(Could be far worse. I've both co-workers and family members who a) do not regret having spouted their bullshit and b) won't stop going on about it to this day.)

"Non-expert confidently thinks he knows better than experts". That's all there is to it.

All I care about is his footballing abilities. I feel like we're due a cracking loan signing. Hope this is it!

True. I wouldnt be against using Weghhorst on fire though as its easy to remember, creates a massive atmosphere and even the many tourists at Old Trafford would have a easy time singing along. Imagine the whole Old Trafford roaring that.

Thats Woutaboutism. With such a name we could probably do something more original (or even more stupid)

Turn down for WOUT!
