There was a moment I thought we would get him last summer but it only lasted about 4 days, and normally I'd say it was his loss, but I have a feeling we come back in over the summer and he agrees so I'm ready for round 2 of this saga.

United leaders, Joan Laporta kindly writes to you.

- The price is now €100M after the transfers we have all seen.
- Given the economic problems that you have and until there is a new owner, we want 80 percent of the transfer in the first payment immediately.

- And this point is the most important of all; Mr. Murtough is requested to go camping immediately to Barcelona since the other time in three months he was not able to convince the player.

Because he stayed at Barca after being pissed on repeatedly by the higher ups because the weather is nice.
Again, how exactly is not that ambitious enough? Genuine question. His team is top of Laliga by 5 points, already won a trophy and is one of the strongest teams in Europa.

So it's not like he is staying on bench just because he likes the weather ? He is playing regularly, winning trophies, paid handsomely and is at his dream club. So please enlighten me how exactly is he not ambitious?

You seem to forget you aren't the ones in a demanding position.

Barcelona is in a position to demand, they do not have the economic urgencies of last year and already then the price was €85M+.
Anyway FDJ does not want to leave Barcelona.

The thing for me is that Frenkie very clearly excels at the main things that everyone else in our midfield struggles with. Those being, 1. a strong short game pass, and 2. the ability to dribble and carry the ball in central midfield.

1. He averages an exceptionally high amount of passes per 90 minutes, with an equally high completion percentage. He gets on the ball a lot, but more importantly he recycles and retains it. He's in the 97th percentile for attempted passes, and the 93rd for accurate passes. Casemiro, Eriksen, and Bruno are all the 20th(!) to 50th~ percentile range for accurate passes between them. Meaning they're all a bit sloppy and careless with the ball - we know this, they're all very high risk high reward players. Frenkie on the other hand treats the ball with caution, like a proper Ajax Cruijffian possession nerd.

2. This is probably the biggest flaw across the team - apart from maybe Rashford, Shaw, and Dalot(?) -- we don't have any good dribblers. It's a big issue when being pressed, and part of why players like Eriksen and Fernandes are a bit one dimensional in bigger stake matches. Frenkie is in the 95th percentile for this against all other midfielders in Europe.

Even if he just brings those two aspects to his game, he offers something massively that nobody else in our side does. And if it's not him, it has to be a midfielder like him. Similar strengths. Not offence to any Tielemans, Ward Prowse etc. type shouts. They won't offer the things we're missing.

In the thread of Barcelona is already explained the economic situation.
Nothing new that news.

In the end it will happen like last year where many here said that Barcelona would have to accept €60M and in the end it was €85M.

I’m sure you would be but you won’t get that either
The club that wants to sign FDJ will have to pay that amount approximately. And more seeing what English clubs pay.

Just have a feeling that is what we are going to do in terms of summer business.

It’s a myth peddled around that he rejected United and was never open to a move. All credible reports suggest the opposite but the timing was wrong.
Wasn't it the opposite? That most credible sources stated Barcelona already had accepted our bid and was doing everything they could to push him out the club but he refused to leave?

De Jong and Bellingham are the only top drawer signings left it seems but neither are likely.

Let's hope we get new owners that can convince one of them to sign or another no brainer CM shows himself before the summer window.

He wouldn’t leave due to the wage issue and monies owed. He did not reject United nor was he opposed to the move.

I love the optimism but I really don't see how this one will happen for anything other than an exorbitant transfer fee, unless Barca are in even deeper financial trouble this summer than they were last.

People still peddling this nonsense :houllier:

Got any sources? Because we can look at interviews Frenkie himself has done since the summer and it's pretty obvious he intends to stay.

But the transfer fee was never the issue, barca were willing to be reasonable there at least.

They were willing to be reasonable because having him gone would have helped ease their financial situation. If they don't need to do so again this summer I don't see why they'd be reasonable again.

Move on. It will be another saga and he will ask huge wages. Get Mac Allister instead.

It almost certainly was a combination of both. He preferred to stay at Barca, but that then became a certainty to stay if Barca wouldn't pay him the money they owed him. If they had paid him that money he likely would have left when put next to everything else that was happening.

ETH wouldn't have kept chasing him as long as he did if FDJ straight told him he wasn't interested.

Wish these smug Barca fans would quit rubbing our noses in it about him staying, not needed when we have just seen Fernandez go to a rival

Rubbish. He never wanted to leave regardless of whether they owed him or not. They wanted him gone but he sure as hell wasn't going to be bullied to go somewhere he had no interest in going to. Good riddance. Case is twice the player.

Sure. Because Brighton are famous for letting their stars go for cheap, whilst Barca are incredible transfer negotiators.
I never say that.

The point is that we should sign player who wants to play for this club and hungry to come here for success. Not some player who is being forced to leave and come here for huge money. The long saga is just not worthy. We ain't got time for that.

Still don't think he wants to leave but IF we can KO Barca there is slim chance he might get food for thought over joining
Doubt his woman would care about us beating Barca in some EL tie.
