People having a go at the OP but there is definitely a bunch of United fans who are always negative. There are some here who fit that bill as well.

But sometimes, games like Sevilla make it impossible for even the most biased of fans to be positive. It was embarrassing and while we have excuses like fatigue, injuries and suspensions, you still expect better than whatever that shite was.

I'm all for calling out fans who entirely negative when it's not called for, but Thursday was justified.
And it will be justified for tomorrow as well. Since the Carling Cup win, we have been plain bad in majority of the games. Losing 2-0 to Newcastle, drawing with Southampton, letting Sevilla draw the game when we should have killed it. Not show up in Spain for the second leg, and now we are back with the defense which was extremely bad last season, playing against a team in form who has a good team etiquette, good passing, wingers who take on players which means players like Dalot & Shaw (if he bothers to show up with the right mentality) will be having a tough time, playing either Woug or Martial both of whom have been very very underwhelming and United are right now practically limping to the finish line after all the talk of a title race back in JAN.

Anyone and every one has a right to be pessimistic based on the above. If by any luck, we win tomorrow, City will be there waiting. Even though we did win at OT, they have had the better of the exchanges and based on the big score lines we have had with City, Brentford, Liverpool, Sevilla this season and last, we do not seem to have the right mentality to play these big games against the big teams when something is on the line.

Surely his tagline may as well read “avid supporter of Vladimir Putin”?

And surely that’s a breach of forum rules/etiquette and therefore a permanent ban. I’ve seen people get banned for less. The fact they’re brazen enough to even put it, rather than just think it privately to themselves, is really quite something.

It’s a pretty abhorrent tagline. Or am I missing a joke?
Thats what i thought immediately. Thought i was losing it that would be permitted

I agree, we've basically fallen apart and while I think there are some reasons for that, the drop off has been unacceptable.

I'll still be happy enough of we can get top 4 by the end of the season but a lot of work is still required. No point in being competitive until February when the season ends in May and that's something we need to solve over the summer.

And how is anyone supposed to know this? Therefore it’s still in bad taste.

How is it even anything to do with Eurovision? Seems like a convenient excuse to have such a tagline and not get banned. It literally makes no sense with regards to Eurovision.
You do understand that some mod made that his tagline and he has no control over it

That's not wanting us to lose, that's saying they might as well give the cup to City now cos we/nobodies stopping them.

How so?

It's because I had England in the sweepstake and they came second, and Ukraine won.

The joke is I don't believe in Ukraine because they won by 'default'.

It's a joke. Live a little for feck sake.

But most people don’t know this. So it’s in bad taste considering world events right now. You can tell me to live a little for feck sake all you want but it simply isn’t remotely funny.

Someone said in the FA cup semi final thread that they wanted Brighton to beat us as they have a better chance of stopping them winning the treble.

Despite what some may have said or posted I think there won’t be any Utd supporter who will be upset or disappointed if we win tomorrow. Sometimes beat not to take everything literally, especially on social media or a forum.

Moaning about moaning is pretty pointless particularly when all this type of stuff has happened before and will happen again. People have a tendency to think members their own fan base are better or worse than others but in reality they are all fairly similar.

Just thought I'd create this thread after the Sevilla game and reading some shocking posts afterwards.

There has been a massive swing back into the lack of actual support for United.

So much so we have people willing the FA to hand City the FA cup already or willing Brighton to beat us tomorrow as they have a better chance of beating City (truly a shocking comment, considering the last time Brighton played City).

We are still in the cup, massive game tomorrow, we sit well above the team we are about to play,
A team who have won three of their last five games, same as us, a team who just lost to Spurs for feck sake.

Have some faith, support your fecking team, we have beat City this season already, we can beat Brighton.
Our starting 11 is riddled with injuries and fatigue. But carry on...

That’s the spirit!
Southampton beat City, Chelsea and should have beaten Arsenal last night by the way.
Again, Brighton have won something like 4 from their last 10 league games. Then there’s the lie of pretending only the game we lost was the big game, was Barca, Betis and the final not big games? Our big game record this season is very good if you look at it, There is absolutely no Benefit in quoting four games when two of them had us finish with 10 men.
By this posts logic City should go into games not shitting themselves crying about losing before it’s even happened.

Every lower league club supporter I know goes on about how shite their club is day in day out, and yet they still support them.

We're no different to those supporters  Its normal.

I don't get the set of fans who're annoyed when someone writes "Glad we won, at the same time, we were crap and I'm concerned about this and that".
This is perfectly fine, whenever it happens. Being happy with a result and also criticizing a performance should be something that's accepted on any platform.

Over the top, hysterical, toxic stuff - less so.
But then again these definitions are so subjective that you can't do much about it.
Just remind yourself that people's views can differ from yours massively, and move on.
Easier said than done, but needs to be said.
They don’t say that though. They come in after Spurs beats Forest at home telling us fans who are confident of a top 4 finish are cocky and how Brentford are going to beat us and when Spurs beats x and y we’ll be fifth by next time we play. United haven’t even kicked off yet! They’re more confident on a shit show Spurs winning that us.
It’s impossible to have differing views when one view is arguing that we’ve already lost. When that doesn’t happen they disappear and raise their head in the next pre match thread.
Look at some of the posts above arguing against it framing is as since the final.. they’ve somehow taken away our biggest win this season in a final only to the place more emphasis on game week 20 whatever the feck v the same opponent to fill out a point. The El 1/4 is another big game we’ve bottled but the 1/4 of the FA cup is never mentioned. Why is that not a big game? Is it only a big game when we lose? If we had beaten Sevilla would the 1/4 suddenly not be a big game if we lost to Juve which would then be the big game? Does that make any sense to anybody? How is anybody meant to keep up?
I’m just pointing it out. Having it pointed out doesn’t change a thing, it’s just tiring pretending it doesn’t happen.

Good man. I am pessimistic in general along with many others when it comes to United after a long spell of United ruining my days, weekends, months and years. You can be optimistic and I can be pessimistic. I will be very happy if we beat Brighton and city to win the cup and it will be a great achievement but where we stand right now with the injuries and United's form, I am not confident. Let's hope they do beat both of them :)

Long time lurker, recent poster here.

While constructive criticism is okay and necessary to have a lively and quality forum, this place has a lot of doom mongering posters.

People create threads for anything and they’re usually along the lines of « x player is shite », « we’ll never win with y player », « Feck Darren Fletcher », which makes for uninteresting reads. A misplaced pass and you have 4 pages of negativity.

I’m not saying « hey let’s huddle when we lose » ala Arteta (can’t stand the bloke…) but perhaps there’s a middle ground where we can discuss things with a bit more than just « they’re all shite ».

Or at least make it funny

I think the issue for some on here, and I don't really include myself in this, but I can understand it, is that people imagine that a top 4 finish and some cup wins might convince the Glazers to stay, and that some short term pain might be worth it if it convinces the parasites that the amount of investment required to stay competitive will be too much and they should complete the sale. I think most are fed up with the one step forward, two steps back approach thay we've had at this club since fergie retired and realise that the only way to change this is for the Glazers to leave

Never suggested it does. But there are some United fans who are forever negative. Which is also embarrassing.

Even the most optimistic fan can't put a positive spin on Thursday. But I'm talking about those that are always negative, always berating players and not just those that are underperforming. Those fans who as soon as a misplaced pass is made lose their shit, or if we go behind immediately begin slagging the team off.

Of course people can support the club however they want.

10 years of being shit and witnessing too many false dawns is enough to turn any optimistic fan pessimistic after a string of bad results because we have been there before.

Also, any fanbase will have a bunch of hyperbolic fans who overreact during match time. It's the nature of football fans.

Wanting the opposition to win so United don't have to get to a final because they might lose is embarrassing to me personally.

That's what the threads about.

But each to their own.

How many people have literally said, "I want United to lose tomorrow?" I saw one poster intimate that they want Brighton to win because they may have a better chance to beat City. Which, granted, is a nonsense thing today, but I feel like you're maybe making a mountain out of a molehill here.

A) That doesn't mean they're not supporting the club.

B) You have no right telling people how to support their club.

Don't know about that, lots of talk here that they don't want City to win the treble, and I think Brighton can stop that more than us

I'd say there were at least three posts contemplating/hoping for a Brighton win, and many more stating that the FA should give City the cup now.

Defeatist attitude, tantamount of 'fans' who seem to struggle to have faith in (ie, support) their supposed beloved club.

I get people won't always be confident of a win, but actively wanting the opposition to win, and handing the cup already to a team we've already beaten this season is just bizarre to me, and strikes me as people who don't support the team as much as they should.
Have faith in the team, they have performed more often than not this season so far.

That's the ONE comment I saw, and the other one said "Just hand the cup to city" or words to that effect, which is something people say all the time to be a bit daft and dramatic. "Just hand the title to Liverpool, it's over" "Just give it to City, names on the trophy" etc, and so on.

Again, personally, I feel you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Ironically, this thread is just perpetuating the negativity that some on this forum lament so much, basically off the back of one silly comment.

How so?

A call to arms to get behind the team and stop wanting the opposition to prosper I don't think is permeating the negativity that pervades this forum.

Because it's now morphing into another thread about which fan is better, and how a fan should support the club, and if you don't react this way or that, are you really a fan...this just naturally breeds negativity, IMO.

And this is based on one (albeit ridiculous) comment. You're treating it like an epidemic of fans wanting us to get smashed tomorrow.

No it doesn't. They're not going to cheer for Brighton during the game, and they won't be sad seeing us win when it happens.

I've always thought it's incredibly conceited to think anything written here, has an effect on anyone but the forum dwellers themselves, so you should post less hyperbolic negativity for the sake of our own sanity.

To the best of our knowledge, no one of import even reads this. It doesn't, therefore, count as support. At best it's just fandom.

Which is why, the constant, strenuous appeal for people to have the right opinions and be the right fans, is just as fatuous as the negativity it seeks to eradicate.
Wait, are you trying to say the hundreds or thousands of hours I've spent writing and reading posts is just all hot air?!

Feck you and your zen existentialism.

Meet me in match day thread for a better discussion tomorrow.
