Very solid and his ball playing ability was critical. Surprised he didn't step up and take a pen tbh. He has done so in the past - even for England.

Don't think he's had many bad moments at all as a CB. Looks relatively untroubled. When he's fit and has his eye on the ball he can play anywhere IMO. Wouldn't even be surprised if he could play well in midfield.

But obviously LB is where we need him most at the moment when others are fit.

Great CB. Will have to be him and Lindelof until Varane comes back. Very good pairing today.

I really like him and Lindelof together. It just works and you can see that there is some understanding there. It's a really good back-up with Varane and Martinez out.

He went walkabout a couple of times and Lindelöf did very well to cover him, but generally a solid game.

Would rather see him at CB every time than see Maguire ever again unless we're playing a Tony Pulis side on a farmer's field.

Such a shame the last game was too soon for him. Think him as lcb' Vs Sevilla makes a huge difference for us and our start.

Nonetheless he's found a new role that will make him valuable for us. Performed really well given it's his first start since the injury and he came on as a sub on Thursday

It's a bit of an issue that he's our best LB and best option at CB while Martinez is out. And that he's better than our captain at it.

Nah it's not a big issue. It's quite good to be able to cover for Martinez this well. Malacia is a good left back, Dalot is also a good left back. You can never be unaffected by an injury for a player like Martinez, but on the balance this is exactly the sort of depth big clubs want. To be able to still get a very high level out of both positions.

Wonder if Southgate will move him to CB. England's best back 4 is probably:

Chillwell-Shaw-Stones-Trippier

with James as a backup RB, Maguire around for heading it late in games, 2 of White, Guehi and Tomori as the actual backup CBs and then Shaw and Trippier cover LB, maybe Trent as a late game attacking sub option.

Shaw showing how to take a ball under pressure from 3 players and find a pass. We just looked like a completely different back four with his ability to get on the ball. Played great today and made smart decisions.

How do Maguire and Lindelof feel, when they've been centerbacks all their pro career, and this leftback just converted this season, and instantly becomes a better centerback

Great when he’s on it and plays aggressively. Laziness has always been one of his biggest problems, possibly because football comes easy to him but I wish he would stretch himself more often.

There's no confusion, and they both actually look like the one that have been a pair for years, instead of Maguire - Lindo. It's amazing what good partner can instantly make the sum look bigger.

He is terrific at CB. I was worried for him as before he has played with Varane who can talk to him and guide him a bit, but lindelof and him were great.

Completely agree. They look like they're on the same wavelength and they seem to have good manoeuvrability, agility, and anticipation between them to stop the other team from having too many chances. I really, really like them together as a pairing.

Starting to think he's better as a LCB than LB.
this is what i think. i dont like him at all as a lb, but actually think he could compete with martinez for lcb (dont think he would win that competition, just think he would be close enough to push martinez to a higher level)

pace helps. shaw is miles faster and more mobile/agile than maguire.

Disagree he’s a brilliant left back when he’s not worrying about Harry Maguire next to him and Ericsen or Fred who play left in the Double pivot 4231 role he’s gets no help from Sancho or Rashford buy Caciedo and play him next to Casemeiro and watch him become an attacking force of nature. Most of his 6 assists this season were when Varane, Martinez and Casemeiro were all playing out if their skin and he could bomb forward.

Absolutely perfect replacement for Martinez in key games.

Big shout for him and Varane in the FA cup final.
Although left back is then weaker. Slightly worrying we prefer an out of position Dalot over the guy Ten Hag specifically bought.

He’s just an outrageously good footballer. Stick him in midfield and I’m confident he’d do a great job there too. He’s the perfect Martinez backup/rotation option. Just slots in seamlessly.

Weird moment to be having any kind of pop at Lindelof, given the performance he put in today

I found it amusing that could happen. Sorry if it offended you.

Yeah he's a bit like Reece James in that they're technically complete players, and physical too. I'm fairly sure they'd make do well in attack too if you stuck them out there enough. Well Shaw not so much anymore after his leg break, but pre leg break he used to love running at players.

It's not that worrying, he's young and new to the league. At the price we signed him for it was worth the gamble though. Had a mare against Seville, but full back is a tough position and defensive issues can usually be ironed out with time.

Not saying he'll definitely make it here long term, but I wouldn't be writing him off just yet. Having a right footed full back against a left footed attacker, like yesterday, can also have its advantages.

He's turning into a proper leader for me. Quality at full back and fantastic at CB. Captain material?

Didn't play CB in a back three under Ole a few times and played very well there as well.

Agree. Doesn’t matter if he is out best LCB or not, we lose one of our strongest attacking players when he’s not playing LB. The sum of everything is better with him as LB unless we have injuries like now.

Great game yesterday. Got a little out of position sometimes which is expected for a full back, but other than that he was excellent.
