Didn’t Neymar have a sexual assault case?

Why do people want him?

Murderers and war criminals are given second chances, not sure why MG is being held to a higher standard. He’s not been found guilty and has borne the weight of public judgment. Time to get him in the field where he belongs.
Its not really as simple as giving him a second chance though is it. There would be a lot of pushback on him returning from advertisers and at least half of the fan base. And that's before we even get to chants from oppo fans. These are all things the club has to take into consideration when weighing whether or not to bring him back.

Many voting no because of what he did, sure have a looser moral compass when it comes to the potential Qatari Royal ownership. Especially when we know which is worse.

Either have a strong ethical view on both or neither.
I think the cognitive dissonance is rooted on people having seen/heard the Greenwood audio whereas with "Qatar" it isn't a person, like a specific culprit to point to. Also, I don't believe it has been established beyond doubt that Jassim's bid isn't a private bid, but rather a state backed bid.

There's no way he should be given that opportunity at Manchester United or the PL. He blew it.

Instinct says no and I don’t think he ever will. But he was 19. Apologises, commits to counselling and supporting others, donates half of all future earnings to woman’s aid or similar…I don’t know. Would the women within the club support that? If they did then I don’t know…

Here comes the Gestapo
I voted yes and wrote a comprehensive post on why. I don't think everyone should have to, but I agree giving context to the vote is a helpful way of explaining an admittedly controversial position. it was somewhat for personal reasons, but those personal reasons apply to the situation...

Rooney, Ronaldo & De Gea have had cases at our club & everyone wasn’t so forced on their opinion then.

I agree with this and have changed my mind about both. Truth is football is utterly decadent and trying to pretend otherwise is delusional. Enjoy it for what it is and save ethics for things you can control.

the problem is nobody knows why there was no trial. could be that the audio was recorded while a role play and the photo was faked as a plot from his gf to blackmail him. that could be a way out of this at least

I think people need to remember that this mistake took place over several months and his girlfriend had the wherewithal to record it which indicates it wasn't the first time.

It wasn't a drunken mistake or something done in anger and immediately regretted. It was a pattern of abuse.

I voted yes on the basis that his Girlfriend got pregnant with his child after all this broke out. If he was such a monster why would she have anything more to do with him.

Also, reports of her using his card to buy herself gifts during this whole ordeal makes it look like a total circus.
So since accusing him of rape and battery she has continued to meet up and chat, used his credit card to buy herself gifts then to top it off, gets pregnant with his child. Hilarious.

The whole thing comes across as a bit of a hoax.

It’s a sickening one. Don’t like the bloke but I clicked yes. We need all we can get up front. Not really in a position to be booting potential generational talents out the door after they are found “not guilty”,

Doesnt fit comfortably with me but Giggs played for us too and I didn’t like his home life either.

Greenwood is young too. He needs a life lesson but not sure destroying him is the way to go about it.

Honestly, it's best to keep any speculation to yourself. Doubt it will be appreciated and will add nothing to the thread, which is already controversial enough.

A lot of us don't really care about social media glamor. But goals are kinda the foundation of football as a whole. People watch football for goals, and it's always been that way.
But the fact people are okay with bringing this vile person back into the fold, with audio and picture evidence of what he did, just because we need him to score a few goals with us is mind boggling to me. Surely this is bigger than a ball being kicked about on a pitch?

The cognitive dissonance is staggering and people genuinely do not seem to care what he did to this girl because as soon as the ball hits the back of that net all is right with the world, absolutely shocking if you ask me

Couldn't cheer a team with him in it, I'm not an uber idealist with the likes of the potential middle east ownership etc, but him returning, I personally don't think I'd be able to follow United anymore.

It's not like this is a one off thing and the talk of second chances is nonsense for me too. There was whatever happened with the England team too.

If it was someone I knew I don't think I'd be giving them 'a second chance'. That's what I find more perplexing, if this was someone you knew and this shit surfaced are you still actually going to be associated with them

The charges were dropped. He isn't innocent and as @horsechoker pointed out, people need to stop pretending this was just some one off incident. It's clear from the initial evidence that the victim recorded that the abuse this poor girl suffered had been going on for quite some time.

Something about the way many here are not even willing to consider that his actions may have been those of a troubled young man who may seen his wrongs and may be willing to actually change for the better troubles me a little.
Domestic abuse is a tricky subject I know, but from what I hear, he and the lady could have denounced him but she didn't and now they are looking to start a family. Is it really that difficult to give the young man a second chance?? This isn't a case of a serial abuser who has a long history of abuse. Why is the cafe so reluctant to even hive him a chance??

He’ll be abused wherever he plays but more so for playing for us. If he ever gets to have a redemption arc, it won’t be with us.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
As far as I recall she released the audio/photos and was initially co-operating with police so you should probably drop this hacking red herring. Also if the victim won't give evidence and is living with and apparently planning a future with the alleged abuser a conviction is not really possible.

It's not all that hard to figure out. I don't really understand why you're trying to make out the whole thing is as confusing as you are.
I’m not trying to make anything confusing. It was stated officially that new evidence and new material came to light, causing the police to drop all charges. It has nothing to do with Hariet being with him in any way whatsoever.

I have a different opinion than you and have respectfully explained why.

If you’re not able to accept that then best leave it there - it’s not a thread / topic for petty squabbling imo.
