There wasn't audio and pics in their situations.
Maradona’s 2x cases time probably didn’t have mobile phones invented to record audio - doesn’t make him free of charges by the public does it?

If the public is using evidence to make their decision then I do think the law has done that as well.

Not sure why the public is supposed to be better educated in law than judges and lawyers.

Anyway, I’ve seen Dani Alves, Ronaldo, Rooney, Maradona, Ribery, Benzema, De Gea, Neymar, Yaya Toure and so many many more have accusations. These are some of the best players of football of all time.

No one was stopping or angry about Benzema from winning the Balon dor and he has a year suspended jail sentence apparently.

I’m not against Greenwood being put down - but then so should have so many more players in the past and even present.

If others have gotten chances then so can Greenwood.

I voted yes on the basis that his Girlfriend got pregnant with his child after all this broke out. If he was such a monster why would she have anything more to do with him.

Also, reports of her using his card to buy herself gifts during this whole ordeal makes it look like a total circus.
So since accusing him of rape and battery she has continued to meet up and chat, used his credit card to buy herself gifts then to top it off, gets pregnant with his child. Hilarious.

The whole thing comes across as a bit of a hoax.
Posts like this are the reason why the mods were right to ban all Greenwood talk.

Not at all. There's clear video evidence of his behavior. In my opinion (I'm sure others will agree and some will disagree), it just sends a really bad message to young kids and young players if we allow this behaviour to be swept under the rug. You're already seeing all these grifters coming through such as Andrew Tate, Mizzy or some random tiktokker all being rewarded for bad behaviour. Don't get me wrong, Greenwood is a top-tier player but certain things should mean more talent.

It could be anything but it is possible that it does provide something of an explanation.

Whatever it was, it alongside uncooperative witnesses caused the case to be dropped very suddenly. I'm hesitant to speculate as I have said but I would at least assume the evidence was of some substance, given the original audio.
That just sounds like a cop out to me. The most likely course of events is usually true and this unfortunately is a story as old as time.

Its not really as simple as giving him a second chance though is it. There would be a lot of pushback on him returning from advertisers and at least half of the fan base. And that's before we even get to chants from oppo fans. These are all things the club has to take into consideration when weighing whether or not to bring him back.
But why??? Why is there so much push back for this?? Is society that unforgiving?? Is it so hard to atleast give him a second chance?? The man is barely an adult. Is ostracizing him really the only way people like him can be handled?? For me, for me the most important person in all this is the lady. If she is willing to give him another chance and even willing to start a family with him, why can't the public do same??

Many voting no because of what he did, sure have a looser moral compass when it comes to the potential Qatari Royal ownership. Especially when we know which is worse.

Either have a strong ethical view on both or neither.
How do you know they’re not opposed to both? I know I am.

Question For the people that voted NO

.... If we sell him and use the money to further the clubs goals, is that just as bad or nearly as bad as making him play for us again?

Kinda like blood money? Or is it fine to use the money.

You should maybe do some reading on the dynamics of abusive relationships. Unfortunately this turn of events is not a surprise.

The only thing I hope for the guy after listening to the audio is that he gets stage 4 cancer and that it's fecking painful. Some of you sound like you should join him.

I'll take a ban no problemo because it's the truth.

The Majority of you voting yes wouldn’t do so if Mason was bang average and you know it.

It feels to soon and it doesn’t feel right at all.

I know that technically he has been found not guilty but to all of those that voted yes. How would you feel if that was your daughter or sister etc and she played those recordings to you.

Most of us would bury the lad, I just don’t see how you don’t. Would you also let the lad back in your house even if he didn’t catch a case.

He's going to bring so much scrutiny and unwanted attention on ETH and the club in general

Regardless of who he plays for again he’s going to have to show amazing levels of mental resilience as he’s going to get absolutely hammered on the terraces especially if he’s wearing our red shirt.

I'd take him back as long as he has taken the time off to better himself all around.

For me it's not enough that she decided to stop cooperating with the prosecution so all is forgiven.

We've seen the photos and heard the audio.

Has he entered into therapy to help understand and control his emotions and rage?

If he hasn't done anything then I can't forgive the actions because he hasn't shown remorse.

If this day wasn't depressing enough.

The whole Greenwood situation is so disgusting and sad and the end result of it all is the victim is having his child, charges dropped, everything's ok and now there's a chance he might even play for Untied again.

I'm going to have another drink, feck this shit.

Its not just society, its the fact that United have a global brand and reputation to protect, so there is also a financial angle that may lend itself to being more risk averse and simply moving on instead of keeping a player at a time when the manger is looking to rebuild the club's ethos and start winning big trophies again.

Jesus christ.

I think I'm done with this thread.
this was tongue in cheek. what i want to say is, we dont know the whole story, so a balanced ethical judgment is not possible at this stage. of course it is more plausible that mg is a scumbag, but nobody knows for sure. the second question is, should ethical questions be discussed when talking about premier league football at all. if you think so, you shouldnt watch football as a whole when you think about the business side

It’s a sickening one. Don’t like the bloke but I clicked yes. We need all we can get up front. Not really in a position to be booting potential generational talents out the door after they are found “not guilty”,

Doesnt fit comfortably with me but Giggs played for us too and I didn’t like his home life either.

Greenwood is young too. He needs a life lesson but not sure destroying him is the way to go about it.
Welcoming him back so he can continue living the privileged life of a millionaire whilst playing for Manchester United. Hell of a life lesson, if the lesson is there's no consequences to being a vile scumbag

Yes. if he is a professional and can contribute to the team, he should play with us.

if him being on the squad hurts us, then get rid.

it's a shame that our 1st or 2nd best goal scorer doesn't play (due to his actions) and that we had to settle for Weghorst all season.

it'll be a shit show if he returns and every fan boos him every time he gets the balland he may not even want to stay at that point. But players that've done worse have played in the premier league. Not that it makes it any better, but it does give some precedent. he showed the world he's a shithead, but that doesn't mean he can't be given a 2nd chance.... young people can grow and change.

I'm not sure this is the gotcha you think it is?

We trained him. We paid his wages. He brought the clubs name into disrepute.

The charges were dropped. He isn't innocent and as @horsechoker pointed out, people need to stop pretending this was just some one off incident. It's clear from the initial evidence that the victim recorded that the abuse this poor girl suffered had been going on for quite some time.
Is it though??? We have no idea of the timeline of these abuse. Let's also not forget the fact that the same girl is still with him to this day. We don't know if it was something that happened a few times or if it was regular. We don't know if at the time of the leak, it was still going on. All we know is that there was a leaked audio, an investigation, a dropped case and both of them are still together.

Rooney, Ronaldo & De Gea have had cases at our club & everyone wasn’t so forced on their opinion then.
Well and George Best has a history of domestic violence too... still a club legend and worshipped by millions of our fans today....

Are you genuinely asking the question why would a woman in an abusive relationship return to the abuser? And inferring that if she’s returned to him it’s a hoax? It happens all the time, sadly, you should educate yourself about that.

Honestly, even if you completely disregard any moral "hangups", it would still be just much so less of a hassle if we just move him on.

My vote is a resounding no. Exploring why it’s even a point of discussion:

He’s not charged with anything so is technically innocent in the eyes of law. Without naming other players, there are examples of players being under investigation for similar offences who continue to play without having the legal clean chit that Greenwood does. And technically, if someone is not guilty in the eyes of the law, there is no legal ground for the club to terminate his contract. Given he’s still together with the same woman complicates things further.

Having said that, just because he’s not charged with certain offences, doesn’t mean he hasn’t committed those. Our club, as an institution, should have a higher moral standing. Unless the club concludes that all the images and audios were completely fabricated, we have no basis for keeping him on. Terminate his contract and let him become someone else’s problem. It is sad that it becomes a club’s decision rather than a clear guideline being issued by the league or FA.
As someone who specialises in employment law there is a rarely used legal ground for the club to dismiss him. If they can't get him on breach of contract for bringing the club into disrepute they can dismiss on SOSR or Some Other Substantial Reason. There's a big difference between being found not guilty in a court of law and the case being unable to proceed due to lack of evidence. The overwhelming fall out/noise as a result of him returning to the team from within and outside the club would technically render his position untenable plus sponsors potentially jumping ship and the share price affected.

On a person level if he returns I'm done with the club. My 50 year plus support is already hanging by a thread over Qatar.

Ridiculous question really.

We invested in him since he was x years old. Have paid his wages even while he was out on bail for a year.

The club won’t get much for him but whatever it gets it isn’t blood money. Christ you make it sound like the club owes him something, not the other way around.

They need to say something public about it all before I can vote yes or no.

So many things are unclear, and if no explanation it’s a clear no for me.

This is how I see it too. Not an ideal situation for the club to be in, but I hope they make a decision soon and that whatever decision they make turns out to be the right one.
