That's why clauses surely come into play in this kind of deal like we will offer you 35-40 million now and sure if he bangs in 25+ plus goals in a season you get an extra 5 or we win the title/cups etc if he doesn't do this then we got sold a player that was just promising and they got a good deal regardless.
Yeah agree like @Wing Attack Plan R has said above something like the Diallo deal is fine. A decent fee with lot of add ons is what should be expected here for this type of transfer imo. +60m is just too much I think.

This is why I'm surprised. He averaged a goal roughly every 204 minutes which to me doesn't strike very impressive, in a lesser league + in his only season of proper top level football.

Personally I'd rather we go for Vlahovic or someone similar. Nothing against Hojlund, I just don't think its fair to punt on him to lead our line.
A 1 in 2 goal rate is poor in his first proper season???? You say a lesser league, but one thing Italians know how to do is defend, so I think a 1 in 2 scoring rate in the most defensive league in Europe is quite good. Each to their own.

It's more than 1 in 2, and I didn't say it's poor.
It's just not what we can hang our hat on. For obvious reasons.

I would like to direct your attention to a certain Mr. Lukaku

I'd rather we use some 'credit' to buy Kane for 100m than pay +60m for Hojlund.

I don't want to sound negative but this lad does remind me of Belotti. Decent but nothing special. I still remember the hype about Belotti but tbh back then I didn't see anything special in him. And Belotti had much much better stats than Hojlund I think.

40m might worth the risks and we would be able to recoup some of it if things don't go well but 60m is simply too much imo. I'd rather use that money on Kane. We all know and could be pretty sure what we could get from him.
Ye I think we’d all prefer Kane but the thing is if we splashed it all on Kane then we couldn’t get a keeper which we desperately need, a lack of money or FFP is stopping us.

Have to sell to be able to. Our refusal to take the required loss to get rid of garbage after overpaying them is why we are having to choose. £25m-£30m for Maguire and £10m-£15m for Fred would have given us around £40m extra to work with by now.
We just need a complete overhaul in the transfer team, people that know how to run a football club. Hopefully that will happen when we get bought out

We grab a striker who is already in the PL and we know what they can do. Ollie Watkins (15), Mitrovic (14), Moreno (13), Awoniyi (10), Isak (10), all have more than Hojland's Serie A output. If Toney wasn't banned for the half the season, I'd rather we got him. I'm not advocating we buy any of these guys, but if we're talking 60m pounds for a lottery ticket, I'd rather we had more of a known quantity. Hojland to me is like Amad Diallo, one who will need regular first team action to develop. There's no chance HoJLAND is ready to lead the line for us.
He's also played like half the minutes compared to some of these players, but less overall in general.

Can we please stop with this "PL Proven" nonsense when, apart from Kane and Shearer, pretty much all the best strikers seen in the PL have come from every other league

Yeah we also need a keeper. But as someone said in another thread which I forgot which one cash is actually our problem not FFP. So we could borrow some or like a poster said above sell a couple players, which we absolutely should, then use that money to buy a new keeper I think. Worst case we still have Henderson. I didn't follow him lately but he was not bad when he was here imo.

This. Amazing how some people think because he hasn't scored 50 goals in one season at 20 years old he's obviously crap and over-rated.
When Kane was 20 in 2013, he spent the 2012-13 season at Norwich (0 goals in 5 games) and Leicester (2 goals in 15 games). 2013 - 14 he was back at Spurs where he scored 4 goals in 19 games. How rubbish is Kane?? Clearly he's never going to amount to anything in his career.
When RVN was 20, in 1996, he spent the 95 - 96 season at Den Bosch and scored 2 in 21, and 96 - 97 12 in 31. Outstanding eh?
Shearer was 20 in 1990. 89 - 90 5 in 35 for Southampton, 90 - 91 14 in 48.

The list goes on and on and on. There are far and away more strikers who become brilliant goal scorers once they hit 22 or so than there are Haalands of the world who score for fun at such a young age. It's honestly mental putting him down for not banging a ton of goals in at 20 years of age.
Is Haaland just a different breed, or do we think he is just an early bloomer and his performance will tail off as Martinez shows the world how to play against him and put him in his pocket?

Do you think clubs like Atalanta are there to just make up numbers? They have their own ambitions, why would they even accept something like a add-on clause which may or may not be reached instead of getting money in hand now?

Apart from Moreno, there is no chance of getting anyone else you mentioned for 60m euros.

it's the market value unfortunately.

There aren't many promising strikers that are also available and ready to contribute straight away. Hojlund has couple of season under his belt, just one in Serie A but can contribute for us in the coming season. I don't really see him as our main striker option, we need experience, but the valuation compared to what is out there and similar players going for is probably fair to what Atalanta want.

Good for them as I said he's an unproven player add ons mean they will get more money in future it's not like he's banged in 20-30 Goals and we are paying them 80 million he's worth it maybe potentially but that's potentially ie the add ons if he doesn't make it we have payed 40 odd million for a dud if he does both parties reap rewards but by all means he can stay with them for another year or two at a team not really top level and he's interested in going to a better team so will be unhappy and as I said is unproven.

They know there aren't enough strikers in the market. Its only right for them to make as much money as possible right now. Hojlund could stay with them and turn into an average striker and that's a small risk that they are apparently willing to take.

That's fair enough then but they will miss out on making money now they could easily say he isn't for sale and his head will get turned he'd a united fan just feel we will be getting ripped off as usual paying anything more than 40-45 with add ons.

I dont think Juve would ask for 70m EUR for Vlahovic..

I'd say it's because they know we desperately need a #9 and we're quite stupid with transfers. We basically always overpay after SAF. Tbh I don't see he has anything special that makes him standing above the average strikers in L1 for example. If the likes of Liverpool come asking they'd sell for 40m I swear. They just got greedy and think they could get some easy money from us. Thing is we're no longer that rich (and hopefully that stupid) so good luck to them with their asking price.

Yeah close to putting this one on ignore like I have with Mount, another who has been written off before even kicking a ball for us
It's crazy isn't it. In summary. Ten Hag doesn't know what he's doing because if you transpose results from the Serie A then (EH aka) Hoijland isn't very good. He's just a modern Altidore. And Osimhen is the one we should buy, despite costing almost 3 times as much. Oh and all this from someone who admits they don't watch Serie A. Hmm. I think i'll go with Ten Hag on this one.

I would love Osimhen but we haven't got that kind of cash until takeover is sorted out

There really is a dearth of good to great strikers out there.
Yep and the established ones are all being quoted at circa 100-120m or the young/unproven but potentially good ones all circa 60-70m. Crazy market for CF’s right now and possibly one of the reasons EtH is reluctant to sanction the permanent sale of MG - who was a proven goal scorer.

Yeah I think we'd all love Osimhen but not at the prices quoted. And if we truly did have the 150 to buy him I'd rather we spent a bit less than that on Kane. Not even Levy would be stupid enough to refuse 100 million plus surely. These are very lean times strikerwise and the prices reflect it. I'd honestly be happy if we take a 50m punt on a young player with promise that ETH wants.

Yeah Erik would definitely be all in for one of them IF this takeover farce had been sorted

Think of the quality of forwards out there in the 90's and 00's. You could make atleast two full teams out of them alone.

I doubt that. There's no buyers for him at 70 let alone 100
Well so far from some reports that I've read Juve turned down 60m offer for him the other day without 70m to ever been quoted. If he is indeed available at 70m he'd be well worth the money and probably more teams will be interested in.

Juve signed him for 70m EUR I doubt they will want to sell him for that just after one year.

Haven't seen much of Hojlund but if we're working to a tight budget I don't think we can justify spending £50m+ on someone who is a bit of a gamble. If we want a younger striker then I'd be looking at Balogun assuming Arsenal would sell to us.

Do you honestly believe Arsenal will give us a deal though? As soon as we get involved they'll up the price based on rivalry without a doubt which then wipes out the advantage of going with Balogun over Hojlund

We don't really have much of a choice. The safest option we could go for is Harry Kane, but that would cost us at least double what Atalanta are asking for, and thats assuming Levy even agrees to sell to us. Then there's the likes of Osimhen who are probably more expensive and yet are still somewhat a gamble.

Its either we roll the dice or start the season with Martial as our only real forward. We're not getting any striker - a young gamble or finished article for less than what Hojlund would cost us.

Outside of anyone similar to Wout Weghorst, we don't get anyone cheaper than what's quoted with Hojlund that's how the striker market atm is.

That's probably the most likely scenario, depends how desperate they are to sell I guess. Might take a Malacia style deal where somebody else agrees a fee first and we can jump in then.

The whole market is a mess really, there seems to be no middle between paying £100m+ for a recognised quality CF or £50m+ for someone who might end up being excellent in years to come but could equally be a flop.
