Onana, Hojlund, Amrabat and Mount would be wonderful signings in this side with this system. I reckon we'll end up with those 4, once we get the sales done. We have a lot of players to shift.
Still feel we need a top drawer striker, however there just isn't going to be the options available this summer who can make the difference

After re watching a few Sofyan Amrabat highlights a Mount analysis I’m seeing a trend in the transfers I think we’re genuinely after. What most stood out in players like those mentioned and even Kim and Hojlund is character. I mean this as in how they approach the game. They all have different traits but all have energy, most tactically sound and a no nonsense approach to the game. Ten Hag type players.

This phrase will seem old fashioned but I mean as in do the right thing at the right time. They press when you need to, be pro active, clear the ball with a physical challenge. A bit like Casimero and Martinez. Players that can come in and perform relatively quickly. Hopefully these guys that come in can match their performances.
This was a very good post. I'd give you a like if I could.

Aren't they the type of players all managers and fans want?

Can't imagine anyone purposely going for a lack of character.

We have never played McTominay (or Fred for that matter) in their best positions. Brighton finding value from McTominay wouldn't be a surprise. We should get a decent chunk of the Caicedo money which they'll get. Otherwise we'll end up being the losers in the Mount-McTominay-Caicedo roulette.

Ben Jacobs is not a good source. Well that’s at least according to Liverpool fans on Reddit.

McTominay will not smash it at Brighton, they play more sophisticated football than we do (in midfield) and their players are asked to show for the ball. Maybe they intend to use him as CB.

I was about to say the irony of us paving the way for Chelsea to sign Caicedo on 2 fronts just hurts .

We've brought in loads of players that lacked character on the pitch. Sure nobody is purposely going for a player that lacks it, but he's saying it seems it's the primary requirement now.

Pogba didn't have it, Harry, AWB and Lindelof rarely play brave, Martial lacks it. I'm sure I'm forgetting some. All guys that aren't the warriors like the players we were/are linked with now.

Ok I’ll use another phrase, physical tenacity. And even to my original wording, of course all mangers want perfect players but some attributes are more visual than others to me. I’d say Casimero has more of the ‘character’ that Ten looks for than say Pogba.

Written in the stars to score an important winner against us if he goes there, but that still doesn't make him food enough sadly.
Yep, same as Welbeck and just like with Welbeck our fans will pop up whenever Scott has a decent game lamenting selling him despite him being demonstrably not good enough.

Let's cash in and not hold on too long like we did with guys like Lingard and Bailly.

Is character the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Mason Mount?

I'm just saying character, common sense on the pitch, being a team player, these aren't ETH things. They're attributes everybody wants and hopes they're getting in a player.

Sometimes it doesn't work out, you take a chance on talent that maybe doesn't have a great personality. Or a player simply doesn't turn up.

But I'm sure Ole and Mourinho thought or hoped all the players they signed would have the right type of characteristics.

Just like ETH is doing now.

You think ETH would have said no to Pogba back in 2016 because he's not physically tenacious enough?

I agree on Mount to some extent. I also think Mou had it down with Ibra, Matic and Bailly was sadly just never fit but was a real fighter. I don't think it's a matter of being hopeful with guys like Kim and Amrabat since we've seen what kind of player they are. A shame we missed out on Kim, would've loved him here.

It felt like you were correcting something that didn’t really need it. Being pedantic.

I don’t mind opposing opinions or even being proven wrong but I’m not sure that’s the case. As I said previously too no transfer regardless of player character to skill is guaranteed. I was merely saying these attributes came to the forefront for me. Ie like pace maybe for other players.

You ask does character or physical tenacity come to mind when I see certain players and the answer is yes. Not that I see this as the main thing I desire, as different situations require different tools. However as I believe this is a trait that has been lacking in our team for years now, I deem it important yes.

You mention Ole and Jose but it goes for any manager. Of course hindsight will reveal a players true personality but I can see that certain players are calmer on the pitch than others, or some will chase when others don’t. We are after players that clearly do.
