We all do, but at this age it’s totally understandable if the player wants to go off into the sunset. It’s not like Messi going to China at 23 years old.
The quality of this game is shockingly bad tbh. Half the players can barely do the basics. It’s also being played at the most lethargic pace I’ve seen in a long time.
The pace is understandable, it's 30 odd degrees and swamp humid over there.
The quality however, is indeed shite. That backpass directly to Messi for the fourth was sunday league.

It's a pretty ridiculous made up cup competition that they've stopped the season in the middle of summer for to be fair.
If you were watching Miami this game and the last you'd be forgiven for thinking that they're genuinely amongst the better teams in the MLS. They're by far the worst. By far. Atlanta are generally just much better than them. Just having Messi and Busquets and having a top class coach like Tata Martino who can get bang average players functioning within a tactical framework makes so much difference. Miami are going to be hilarious to watch when Alba plays and Suarez comes in and gets the fourth international spot. Then add to that the three U-22 players joining them soon; they'll be Man City in the MLS eventually.

I think the idea behind it is so that MLS teams can play Mexican teams and try to drum up some non-domestic rivalries. Imagine if we only ever played English teams. Any competition that permits MLS teams to play other North American sides or South American sides is a good step in the right direction. The ideal eventually is for MLS to have some allocation into the Copa Libertadores.
Yeah I understand the idea behind it but it's a tournament that sides aren't going to go full pelt in until they reach the latter stages.
And playing Mexican sides isn't going to get MLS teams into the Copa Libertadores. They are expanding the Champions Cup however.
Not surprising. I changed the channel the minute he came off. The game was appalling. Sunday league quality, but there was a real buzz whenever Messi got the ball. He walked through the match, barely came out of second gear, but was so much better than everyone else that it was ridiculous. If he decodes to turn it on at any point, he will utterly destroy teams.
Should have gone to the saudi league as it looks more competitive but doesnt surprise me because he only played in the worlds best league for 3-5 years at max.
Tbf, I don't think he can turn it on like he used to. He has declined a good amount(despite still being excellent at the WC) since his 2018-2019 season(IMO his last incredible season for Messi standards). But if he stays fit, he will destroy MLS defenses with ease.

I want the MLS to be a serious league but it's hard to take it serious when you see that.

A couple of things:
Miami is a TERRIBLE sports city. The fans are not loyal at all. Attendance at marlins (baseball) games is a joke, and the dolphins (American football) have to be good to fill the stands.
also, they’re competing in a new tournament with Mexican teams with a ridiculous format. Teams are in groups of 3, with each team playing two games. There is no home and away, and games go straight to penalties if it’s tied after 90 minutes. Miami just advanced to the knockout rounds.
Most mls clubs have much better fan attendance. Last year, Miami was last in the league with average attendance of about 12k for home games. Atlanta United, who they played tonight, averaged 47k attendance, which led the league.Twelve clubs averaged 20k or more.
basically, if you want to experience an mls game, Miami (sans Messi) is probably the worst place you could go. Also doesn’t help thatafter midnight here, the heat index is still 32 degrees Celsius.

Fort Lauderdale FC will obviously get better with him there but they’re still a shit club.
Very true. I hope for beckham’s sake that the new stadium near the airport works out, but putting a team in Miami was not the best business decision, in my opinion. I live in south Miami, and the current stadium is like an hour away.
Miami are meant to get a new stadium in 2025 in Downtown, the fact it's a 40min give or take drive to FT Lauderdale is a big factor too, it's hot as hell down here (I'm currently in Miami) and even Ocean Drive is slow, I was at a Fall out Boy concert yesterday albeit up in West Palm Beach and I was sweating buckets, let alone going to a Football game at one of the worst times to watch a game
I have experienced a lot of passionate fans though, it has a very unique atmosphere and very Latin influenced which going forward will help, I think once the stadium moves to downtown the avg attendance will shoot up, I did kinda hope they would had built a stadium near the most historic touristy areas of the city but hey ho, next to the airport works too.

Are MLS players really unfit compared to players in Europe since oldies like Messi and Busquets look so young? Messi is tearing them apart.
Are we really still doing this? I remember you posting that if Messi won something with Argentina it would shut you up. When he won Copa America you shifted the goalposts to the WC. Then he won that. So?

Whilst a lot of what you say is true, you have to take into consideration the fact that I. Miami are a brand new team who have been woeful up til now.
Atlanta for example have won the MLS and are in terms of the league a big club.
Miami with the players they have now will be a massive pull and will improve the club massively.
Where is the loyalty supposed to come from? IM is not a club in the European sense, it's just a franchise someone dumped there about five minutes ago.
It's a Latino city with plenty of football fans, bring in big players and that's how you get loyalty or least a following, I live in New Orleans and many friends wanna come with me to a game (my Mum lives nearby Miami)
