HIIT (Sprint interval training) is designed to replicate match intensity sprints and endurance in repeated blocks of training sessions. It's the training that brings the athlete to the match ready to engage in match sprint intervals.
Do you often see players play 90 minutes in their first game?

From the head of Sports Science at Charlton Athletic on how players become match fit, and maintain match it:

Build a base level of fitness
“If you’re unfit, then you need to start by building an aerobic base of fitness,” says Hornby. “At Charlton, the players will do 6x4 minute blocks of tempo running, at a good pace, with a two-minute rest between each one. This will lay the foundations for more intense fitness work, once they’re ready."

Push yourself with interval training
“To increase the intensity, we begin with sprints of 15 seconds, with a 15 second rest between each one. If you do eight repetitions, that will add up to a four-minute block of work. In a match, you tend to work for periods of four minutes at high intensity, followed by lower periods of intensity – this mimics that.”

Maintain your fitness
“Once you’re match fit, it’s important to maintain your fitness throughout the season. If you have a game called off or you’re not involved, try and do a session, which will replicate the demands of a game. If a player hasn’t played they would do 6x20s sprints (20s rest between each). Then 8x15s sprints (15s rest between each) and finally 10x10s (10s rest between each).

I don't believe he's injured. I think he'll get a month of training with us and then slowly bedded in, which I think is fair and takes a little pressure off. It's too much to expect for the kid to come in and start playing from the first game. I think it's a ploy to stop the media, and the fans for that matter, asking why the marquee signing isn't playing.

They're already comparing the poor lad to Haaland ffs and he hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet.

He's unlucky in that sense, the media will put him under a microscope as they do with all our players, but he's fortunate to have EtH as a coach at least.

This is my thinking too, we don't need to rush him into the lions den, we have plenty of options to allow a calculated introduction to the league and take a little pressure of the lad.

We certainly don't have plenty of options up front. When it Tony back?

I'm talking over the entire front line, plenty of options to carry a couple of games.

Promising payer, but not worth the fee. Scored nine goals in leauge last season out of Atalanta’s 66. For ten million more we could have got Kane.
This is a myth. Kane would have taken 30 mil more at least plus double the wages, and that's assuming Spurs would even take our call. I get being frustrated by the fee and goalscoring record relative to someone like Kane, but it was never this simple, or we would have signed Kane, who was our first choice.

I kinda suspect that Højlund won't be assigned a shirt number until the club makes its decision regarding Greenwood. If the club parts with him then the number 11 seems an obvious choice. Also, if a player is loaned out, does their number become available for another player to take?

Good point about MG’s number - hadn’t thought about that. Otherwise we might wait for Fred to leave so 17 is available.

On another subject, I really don’t get why the club are dragging out the announcement of the decision on MG. In any case we’re losing on it.

If we don’t want him at the club then we won’t have much time to find a club for him (if we want to sell him), and if we want him back he’s just going to be further away from match fitness the longer it drags.

Should give Garnacho that number instead.

Yeah, Hojlund is 100% not injured. A friend of mine from Bergamo is a huge Atalanta fan and says that he trained right up until the moment Atalanta left him out the game vs. Bournemouth. He was eligible, but left out for transfer reasons.

It's highly likely that EtH has concocted the "injury" story as a means of giving Rasmus a chance a little bit of breathing space to settle in without the media obsessing about his imminent debut.

Thats very possible. Returning from injury also means that his first few appearances will also be judged from that perspective.

This makes no sense to me. You would think that United were interested in getting Højlund as fit as possible before the start of the season and giving him the opportunity to play with his new teammates to get to know them and the tactics better.

Or, you know, they may be looking at the bigger picture instead?

If hes not injured then giving him the last 30 mins against the Wanderers, when they are tired would make more sense. Next game give him the whole 2nd half. 3rd game start him take him off midway through 2nd half and finally against the Arse play a full game. We need goalscorers on the pitch and this would be the best way to introduce him to the Prem imo.

I agree, but they're doing it for PR purposes. He's 50% being loaned (even a non match-fit MG is going to be some use to someone in, say, Turkey, after a few weeks) 40% likely 'in the reserves' until December and 10% likelihood slotting into 1st team squad but not playing for a while except for reserves/international week closed-door friendlies. They'll have him on the bench guaranteed 2-3 times before Ten Hag brings him on. He won't start a game for the first team, if he isn't on loan, until late October at the earliest ( maybe League Cup 4th round for first appearance) - it will be drip drip, and other stories will be foregrounded every week to basically merge him into the background until the 'fuss' dissipates. There'll be normal family and child photo stuff leaked, but not too much. If he's sensible, he'll be investing non-training and family time in something low-key but 'community project' related 1-2 times a week, that is, if he stays around rather than going on loan.

It has before. Anderson was loaned to Fiorentina, and Mata took the 8. Anderson took 28 when he briefly returned.

As much as I dislike Danes, I'm willing to put that aside and get behind the lad.
I have to question why we were in such a rush to bring him in if he was injured. Could have saved money and prioritized Amrabat
True to form, I see.
This is a myth. Kane would have taken 30 mil more at least plus double the wages, and that's assuming Spurs would even take our call. I'm guessing double the price (PL tax because the last thing Levy wants is sell the face of Spurs to a perceived rival) and at least five times the wages. But yeah, the idea that if we'd just spat in 10-20m extra we could have had Kane is silly. He'd cost (if we take my guess) 75m more in wages over a five year contract, on top of however many million more it'd cost to buy him, and he would have to prefer us as a destination. I know he supposedly wants Shearer's record and thus we'd be the only realistic option in the PL, but does he want it at the cost of trophies? I'm hoping and thinking we can win a few over the next couple of years, but there's no guarantee. At Bayern there is. Yeah, it's the Bundesliga and is all but a foregone conclusion, but it's still a trophy, and he'll also get a few decent whacks at the CL while there. Then he can come back to the PL in 3-4 years with a few BLs and maybe a CL in the bag, and, fitness permitting, play a few more seasons here and still nab Shearer's record.

Exactly but some people in here and most people in the media completely ignore these facts

The answer on the shirt number is 9. Tony’s feelings may get hurt and he even suffer another freak injury upon hearing the news, but it is not his number to keep as he wishes.

Not injured but lacking match readiness, however I am certain we still won't see him kick a ball into Forest at earliest which is a shame

Its just people with too much time on their hands... 2+2= 27

If ETH wants to slow walk Hojlund into the team, he slow walks him into the team. Why bother inventing something like a fake injury for that? It's just dumb.

Bummer he won’t be available for the start of the season. Looking at it in a positive way he’s a young man that just moved to one of the biggest clubs in the world add in he’s in a new country new league I think maybe a couple of weeks of him focusing on his match fitness and learning about his new team and teammates will be really good for him. Can’t imagine the whirlwind of emotions he’s going through this week.

Excited to see him play!
