Had a few smug Bayern fans on here denying they'd handled this whole thing badly, they must be getting pretty worried at this point.

I still think ultimately he'll join them but for now

This has to be one of the dullest sagas just right below de Jong ("guys I swear he really wants to come here !"). Quite a relaxing one for United, Kane might stumble somewhere -United or elsewhere- with minimal effort put in.

This is going to be a fun thread in January, when Spurs are sitting in 7th and Kane already has 20 goals.

30-40 million will surely be worth it, right, if we're with shouting distance of City at that point and on our way to the last 16 in Europe?

Interesting to read some of the posts by ex-players on twitter. Lots saying he should stay to break the goalscoring record...but then Ferdinand bucking the trend by saying people dream of trophies growing up and not records like that and I lean more into that view also. The bundesliga will be a formality but he has a very very good chance of winning the CL with Bayern. It would be hilarious if he goes, wins nothing and Spurs win a trophy this year though.

If he leaves on a free in 2024, are we even in the race?
Ten Hag has worked hard to reduce the wage bill. There will be clubs offering 600k+ a week.
Will the club want to break that for Kane, even if he is on a free?

Would be like the time Van Persie came in. Would make me really enjoy our games again not thinking where the next goal could come from so often. I’ll never say anything again about our ownership if it happens and we get Pavard (unless they don’t sell and it’s open season again)…

That would be interesting.

For us, i dont think 100mil makes sense for him. I personally dont think adding Kane makes us into serious title chalangers automatically. But if we are in with a sniff in Jan, then it would be worth going in for him.

But then, how crazy is paying 30-40 mil to get a player 5 months early.

I disagree. You're telling me if we didn't have a 25 epl goal scorer last season we wouldn't have challenged ? And we've got better since then ! If signing Kane doesn't make us title challengers I wonder what will ?

I think Kane would be nuts to do that. He'd just be in the same situation next summer where Levy won't sell to a rival English club and he has to either move abroad or sign another extension. At that rate he'll still be there when he's 44. Signing contract extensions every year, cackling into the night sky, out in the wilderness wearing just flip flops and talking to his reflection twinkling from a metal spoon.

I am inclined to think we would not be the best offer financially.

Barring a massive drop in form this season I think it is a no brainer that every big club in the world would be talking to him but it is going to be interesting to see if he has a specific destination in mind or is going for the biggest payday. If it is the latter I doubt we will go beyond a quick chat with his agents because the oil clubs will be able to offer him a massive basic wage plus god knows how much more in undeclared payments through shell corporations. If he leaves on a free I fully expect the Kane/Haaland partnership to destroy the last vestiges of competitive balance in the PL.

This is interesting. Kane, his agents and Levy have made a mockery of the whole thing... how daft. He doesn't even know what he wants to do, despite stating for two years that he will not sign a new contract. Now he doesn't know whether he wants to join Bayern Munich?

His manager doesn't need this.. Postecoglou either has him for one season, or has little time to find a replacement. Madness and quite irresponsible.

No idea where he goes next season.

It might not be all that crazy if you consider that if he were to become a free agent next summer, he could (and probably would) demand a big signing-on fee from any club who signs him. I mean, aren't we all expecting Mbappe to do the same thing if and when he ultimately signs for Madrid?

Honestly what's 40 million for Kane in January if he signs for 3.5 seasons and scores 75+ goals in that timeframe?

We all love United
Hopefully he tells Levy that he only wants United and if he’s not going to get it, he’ll come to us for free next summer

I look at last years fixtures, and there were not that many tight games where I believe having Kane would have been the difference in turning a draw into a win, or a loss to a draw. Quite often, we just didnt create enough changes. But is that because we didnt have a good striker that could have occupied or opened up defenses. Maybe?

Of course, if he had him last year, we would have been better. I just dont think good enough even with Kane to reach 90+ points.

Yeah, that's the thing. If he stays, the media will no doubt cast it in the most positive light - a loyal servant who couldn't bring himself to leave his longtime club, wife having a baby, wants to break Shearer's record, etc. But if that's what he wanted then he could have accomplished all of that without fecking over his new manager, his owner, and Bayern in the process.

If Kane does turn down Bayern though, it is a clear indication of what his intension are. To stay in the Prem and break the goal scoring record.

Who will he move to in the Prem?

Chelsea and Arsenal are off the table due to their rivalry with Spurs. City don't need him.

It only leaves United.

Moron wants shearer's bullshit record, 260 goals. Its like football in this country didnt exist before 1991-1992.

Greaves -- the 1966 World Cup winner with England who died in 2021 at the age of 81 -- remains the all-time top goal scorer in the history of the English top flight with a total of 357 goals in 516 games for Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham combined.
Basically different sports.

I don't think it is about the finances.

He wants the Prem goal scoring record, while still being at a club that is competitive for trophies.

United are his only option that satisfies both. He wont go to City to play second fiddle to Haaland.

I guess it comes down to how much money you (all fans, and the club itself) believe an EPL title is worth.

Come January, if we're sitting 4th or 5th and are 10-15 points off the leaders, it's probably not worth it. If we're sitting 2nd or 3rd and only 5 points off the leaders, Kane could be the guy that takes us from that position to lifting the trophy in May.

Absurdity at it's finest.... Kane's team (/his brother) have clearly indicated he wanted the move to Bayern for them to go again this big, this late. But they must've thought Levy wouldn't have accepted it at all for them to so uncertain now

There's no way anything else is playing on his mind here. Moving his family or making that work is a doddle, and realistically the decision is the same if it was June or July. He mustn't really want Bayern that much... and I'd be removing the bid now if I was them.
Perhaps using Bayern to get Levy to accept a bid so another suitor can offer and sign him

Can we just take a moment and feel grateful for not being a part of this saga?

Good job Murtough and co.

City hoard midfielders and CBs not strikers for some reason. I think we're fine there.

Perhaps their pull for players isn't what they thought it was.

In 2024 he would be playing second fiddle to Hoijlund if he comes here. The difference is that Manchester City can buy him his own Island once a week for the duration of his contract and report it that they are paying him 500 quid a week to keep his tax bill down.
