All the noise came from Italy. Just like Kim Min Jae transfer.
Is United even interested?
Romano and Ducker, both Tier 1 have been saying for ages that we are interested and will go for him if we can sell.

You’re not the only one to ask this question; loads of people are asking it. I don’t know why. There is interest but no bid.

Finally, how does a loan even work though if he's got a year left on his deal??

My god the interest was real after all. Hopefully this has moved because VDB to Lorient has surfaced.

Was honestly beginning to think it was all purely agent driven. Loan with buy option id imagine. Hope it gets done.

don't blame me. Italian clubs are known for shoehorn English clubs into every transfer

I wonder if this loan to buy option thing is either just how close to destitute we are or someone doing some financial balancing to possibly include more players in.

In all honesty how can you blame people or mock that opinion, with it happening so so so often in the past? There’s been so much typical wishywashy tabloid nonsense coming from Italy about this deal.
For the last six weeks, a lot of sources in Italy have been saying the deal is on so this felt more believable than the kind of nonsense we'd hear over Kim/Gaitan etc. Plus the fact that he'd not been in the squad or training with the first team meant that a transfer somewhere was likely to happen.

Just means we pay as a loan for this year with signing him fully next year when got more money - Fiorentina are guaranteed his sale.
Why wasn’t this an option earlier?

I can understand why people were sceptical but it became clear days ago when Ducker reported Amrabat is ten Hag's top midfield target that our interest was real. He wouldn't be getting that info from Amrabat's camp or Italy.

Why would we purchase him next year when he is out of contract

Yes both Ducker and Burt confirmed our interest last week along with Romano continuously pushing it even when things were quiet so it wasn't only the usual suspects in Italy.

Let's hope a deal can get done before the deadline

No! I read on Twitter we absolutely want him. It must be true. Embarrassing we haven’t signed a player we could easily have signed if we wanted to at any point in the last 3 months.
Looks like the club are doing what we all thought wouldn’t happen. We spoke too soon

VDB obviously isn't an option and on his way out. So it's 5 players for 3 positions (six if you include Mainoo, who should only really be a youth option this season, not someone you need to rely upon).

At that point if you get one injury (like we have now with Mount) you have 4 players for 3 positions, and when the games start ramping up that is nowhere near enough.
I don’t understand this way of thinking. Like, at all.

You’re constructing a scenario of not enough cover based on a hypothetical of a player leaving. While the player is still here.

VDB played in all of pre-season. Do we want to sell him/loan him out? Yes, sure. Obviously. But he’s still here, with 1 day to go. We haven’t found someone to take him yet. So it’s 6, not 5.

The reason we’re not making movements for other players is very likely because we haven’t found anyone to take our own. Or because some of those are considered an option (like Gravenberch) only as cover *if* we manage to get rid of one our current players.

Man, we're broke.

Loan with an option makes sense, though. My question mark over him is his pace on and off the ball. It's definitely better to test that out considering the state of our finances.

I assume this would be similar to Arsenal's deal for Raya. He signs an extension at Fiorentina, we then take him on loan with obligation to buy next summer.
