Hope, We Lose
Do you think United signed a guy on loan who has 1 year left on his contract? He has two years on his contract and he wouldn't cost United more than 25m till the add-ons are achieved. That's of course if we actually sign him permanently.
He has a year. His club could give him one more apparently. But they've already told him he could leave, stopped him training with the team and moved on without him. They said they were exploring all ways to move him on this summer as thats what they both wanted. And thats why we arrive at a loan deal when they obviously wanted to sell him for up front money

Yeah, it’s easy just now as we have injuries but when they are all fit, EtH will have what he wanted - competition for places.

Hopefully they all push each other to new heights and Erik has a selection headache every week.

Next we need to get that same competition at CB but that’s a whole other transfer window saga frenzy to come.

Hell of a window. Here’s to the next one.
Yeah, fully agree. Only the Evans/Maguire debacles have tainted it somewhat for me. If only we'd offloaded Maguire and got a better replacement, it would have been an exceptional window. Hopefully, Maguire doesn't get a sniff up to January, though Southgate is also not helping matters much.

i havent seen a huge amount of him, like others obviously the world cup and a few games in the Europa league, so by no means an expert. That is part of the concern, 27 and didnt seem to be rated much before then.

From the little I have seen of him, I would class him as a decent signing, think people are expecting too much from him and over rating him a bit, again like Mount he really isnt a number 8 though for me, more Casemeiros position, not particularly progressive but decent on the ball.

What I do like about him is that it appears he really wanted to come here, he is athletic and strong....but unlike several other midfielders we have had, positionally aware.....again the only player fits that mould is Casemeiro. Neither Mount nor Arambat would have been my choices.....but theoretically we do have much better options than last years:

6: Casemeiro
8: Eriksen, McTominay, Fred, VDB, Sabitzer
10: Fernandes

Obviously a bit of versatility amongst that but really we had no Casemeiro cover and no proper number 8, for me this season now its.....

6: Casemeiro, Arambat
8: Mainoo, McTominay, Hannibal
10: Fernandes, Eriksen, Mount

Again versatility and more options, but to me its still alarming, we have a defensive 8 possibly in Arambat and an attacking one in Mount....neither fit the profile but there are at least options at 6 and 10 now. I also dont think Hannibal gets a look in, which is a shame, we dont know if he is good enough or mentally strong enough for this level.....but I think he could be really good there, considering we have signed two midfielders.....personally find it strange that success this season in terms of blanace, we are quite possibly really reliant on Mainoo coming through when he returns, that is why for me Arambat is a decent signing and little more possibly, I am happy we have done the loan option personally as though he is a better fit than Mount, I still have reservations, but I havent seen enough of him anyway

Neither.

Insofar as we have a first eleven, for most games when everyone is fit will still likely be the set-up ETH obviously primarily wants with Casemiro, Mount and Bruno.

But nailed on first elevens shouldn't really be a thing. Amrabat should be good enough to step in for Casemiro or in place of one of the #8s as needed, because aside from needing depth different games also require different things.
Who knows what Hag primarily wants. Those were his options. Now he has one option more. The player Hag really wanted in see in preseason, looked to be Mainoo.

His style looks spot on. Be nice to have a bit more muscle in there as well.

I suppose the question is can he do everything quick enough in the Prem. He looks just about quick enough in terms of pace but he has quite an upright, moving wardrobe type of athleticism about him.

I'm pleased with it though. Can see him being a first choice before long.

Very happy with this signing. Shame it took so long and he missed the first three games and likely Arsenal too.

Mount for me.

Mount is good squad cover for when we want to give Bruno a break.

A midfield of Amrabat-Casemiro-Bruno seems to be much more balanced than Mount-Casemiro-Bruno.

Assumption is Bruno will always play BUT if he needs a break / performances drop, then Mount can take his place. He’ll need to start contributing with goals/assists though.
Only when Fernandes is having a break sounds like a lot of bench. If I were Mount, I would hope to play a bit more than that.

I disagree on the sensational window. We havent raised anywhere near the amount hoped for in sales and there are still a few players here who really shouldnt be. We also for me still havent signed a quality number 8 and dont have a second striker beyond Martial. I think our signings compared to competitors see us regress, the Mount signing was a mistake.

I fully agree on the Evans/Maguire comments though. I think alongside the spend on Mount the failure to improve our options at centre back when we have a strong likelyhood of Varane missing a fair amount of games.....will cost us dearly points wise....this weekend could well be an example of that

I mean it's pretty clear which of Mount and Amrabat is preferred by ETH given the fact that we actually bought one of them. People talking about Mount being benched regularly are a bit deluded.

But as I say, the point is to have horses for courses.

I think the agents role in transactions are a bit overlooked when we criticise the club for being bad at selling. To find you a new club, sounds more like the job of your agent.

How can we afford 10mill loan but not 35 amortized over 5 years = 7 mill. Does loans not count? Makes no sense

So what's the deal with his 1 year left on contract? What's stopping us from just not signing him next summer (at the end of the season) and then signing him for free 1st of July?

Are we certain (ie. official sources) its an option and not an obligation? Because it makes no sense, unless he simultaneously extended his Fiorentina contract.
Theres an option on Fiorentimas side to extend it by a year. Something they now will exercise.

I'm not writing Mount off just yet, though I haven't been impressed so far. At least we don't have to rely on Eriksen now and we will have Mainoo back at some point. If Hojlund and Amrabat hits the ground running and Onana settles in as we are all hoping, Old Trafford's going to be rocking this season.
It was always going to take two or three windows. The next one should hopefully nail it. Maguire will hopefully see sense in January.

Excited to see what he brings to the club, just a shame it was done so late in the window.

So you think hes worth 30 million with a year on his contract? How much do you think hes worth if he had 3 years on his contract? Presumably we'll have that situation in a year
You haven’t worked something out…

if he’s got a year on his deal, why would we pay anything after the loan man.

Ah so you think he's in Kane's league. Lets see how he does, I think you might be mistaken
Of course not. The relative fees must tip you off on that, surely. I’m really not sure why you’d post something so silly.

Yeah you’re right.

I just love transfer windows for their own sake. As soon as one closes I start looking forward to the next one, idly.

I genuinely thought this was another bs story from his agent.

Odd timeline with the whole saga.

But now he is here I hope the Cafe is happy, and won’t immediately do a 180 and claim he is shit after a few appearances.

All I’ve seen him do is slide tackle Mbappe…so it will be interesting to watch him for a full 90 minute to see what else he can bring to the team.

Have a feeling that if he and Casemiro both play we would be a very resilient counterattacking team.

Welcome! Will add depth to the squad and the option of playing a double pivot. Hope he excels here!

I think there's a good chance he'll be a lock for the first XI by season's end.

For once we have actually signed a midfielder who can help us in the build up phase.
Yes something we’ve needed to do for a decade. Hope this won’t be our last addition to that for a long time.

Wonder who he would keep out of the starting 11, Mount or Casemiro.
For better balance of the team, he should be playing no.8 role and rotate with Eriksen instead. But sure if Casemiro need a rest, we could also play him there.

AM: Bruno or Mount
CM: Amrabat or Eriksen or Mainoo
DM: Casemiro or Amrabat or Mainoo

Bruno
Amrabat Casemiro

Mount
Eriksen Mainoo

That’s interesting.

Casemiro, Amrabat and Bruno has a very good balance to it.

Casemiro and Amrabat should compliment each other perfectly.

Makes you wonder about Mount though.
Bruno is not an Eth signing, and is still very wasteful. I think Mount will be challenging Bruno’s spot more, specially if Amrabat becomes a regular along with Casemiro.

Just read that Ounahi has been benched by his Marseille coach. For me the best midfielder of that Moroccan team, complemented Amrabat perfectly, and had the dribbling that is missing from midfield...In my dream world, one to get in Jan or next year.

Amrabat next to Casemiro is the only thing that makes any sense in my head, but considering how much more important Mount was to Erik, he might see a lot of the bench. Hopefully he can come in and prove his worth before Mounts return.

Going from a chance creating machine like Bruno to a guy like Mount is an idea that makes me sad.

Is it true he had little or no pre season matches and was training alone over the past number of weeks? Morocco have two matches next week and those games should bring him up to speed.

I'm at loss to understand to why this couldn't go through earlier for him to have a pre season with us? Could it be that we penny pinched our way through saying we had no money, and the player refusing to move anywhere else and only wanting United was a decisive factor in finally pushing Fiorentina? It seems very odd since this is a loan move and Amrabat may not get any extra pay over what he's earning at Fiorentina. He genuinely seems to like us as a club rather than being motivated by money, which is hard to see these days.

Mount got injured thats why we loaned Amrabat. Similar to when Eriksen got injured we loaned Sabitzer. Its ridiculous to wait for injuries before signing backups/competitors for first teamers.
