It’s mental when you think about it. Two players in the same position. One was brought in to replace the other.
Yeah I alluded to this in an earlier post (May have been in this thread) but the odds of this happening to two players in a row in the same position must be astronomical. Like really, what are the chances of that?

Domestic abuse. I get it. Substance of the allegations meet a threshold when someone is charged, not before. Suspending based on an allegation isn't necessary.
I won't claim extensive knowledge of her allegations but I don't know there's any actual charge for sexual coercion (though honestly from the little I read it wouldn't be too surprising it's in there even if not explicitly mentioned) and that might make a big difference in perception -fair or not- if this reaches a certain point within legal proceedings.

Right now Brazilian police is looking into it so I assume it's a criminal investigation but eventually depending on how things go it might end up being a civil case. Might similarly alter perception by some of the public, hence MU's reaction.

Two of the alleged incidents took place this year.
It was released in the papers 4 months ago too. One of the allegations was him hitting her so hard he removed one of her implants and the club doctor treated her.
Okay I was not aware of this bit. If true, this is not a good look for the club at all, and could explode far more than the Greenwood stuff did if club staff were actually involved here.

The pictures seem to be making claims after the fact of what they show

If you allege someone punched you in face and you get police report at the time and then get them to document your injuries that's proof.

Showing a photo of an old injury and retrospectively assigning responsibility for that to someone else, really isn't a very strong piece of evidence legally. At least in this country. Brazil may be different but given the story has been running for a good while now, I suspect it might be the same.

Unless there are police reports made the time that substantiate the injuries from the photos then i would doubt they would even be admissible in any criminal trial. Civil court (or Brazilian equivalent) is different story.

Hypothetically in the Greenwood case had that gone to trial, the cut lip picture would not have been seen by the jury or permitted in court by a judge for the same reason as it wouldn't meet threshold to be considered evidence.

The photos really aren't evidence without police reports being made on the day they were taken by the police themselves

The big difference here is part of accusation apparently involves a club doctor treating her injuries.

Even if we don’t suspend him, how can he possibly be in the right frame of mind to play?

And wasn't some dates given for such allegations in Brazil when he happened to be in Manchester at the time?

I just can't see that personally. Antony knocks two bells out of his partner, takes her to the club to get fixed up and its all swept under the carpet by the club?

I havn't seen the interview, but it takes quite a bit to sit for an interview like that and tell lies. When victims go public with a story, the story is likely to be true. It would take a very brave psychopath to make up a false story and go public with it. Possible, but not likely.

Time to change formation to ensure we don't have a right winger

Yeah, find it hard to believe myself. Especially in the age of information via social media.

Whenever anyone is first to the media in a criminal matter it's fair to ask why

She isn't bravely breaking cover trying to get attention to her plight. She knows the police are actively investigating it.

And wasn't this whilst Greenwood was suspended? I just can't see the club suspending one player whilst actively covering up another.

Surely going public with interviews isn't the best course of action if a criminal investigation is going on though? If it ever went to court the defence would be all over it if she exaggerated any details or did infact lie about something?

These allegations are pretty horrible.

She claimed Antony, who is 23, became angry after spotting her in a nightclub he was also at, and “put her in the car, repeatedly assaulted her and threatened to throw her out of the car at high speed”. She was pregnant at the time.

Cavallin told UOL: “He said that if I wasn’t going to be with him, I wouldn’t be with anyone … I was shaking with fear.”
A second alleged attack allegedly took place in Manchester on 15 January this year – one day after United’s 2-1 victory against Manchester City. According to the report, it left Cavallin needing medical attention in her room at the four-star Hyatt Regancy hotel. “He punched me in the breast and my silicon [implant] flipped over,” she told the website, adding: “He said, ‘I didn’t mean to hurt you, it was an accident, it wasn’t a punch – I just held you against the wall.’” A photograph showed what Cavallin said was a head wound she had sustained in the attack.
According to UOL’s report, a third alleged attack took place on 8 May this year when Cavallin claims the player “tried to attack her face with a glass” during an argument. While trying to defend herself, Cavallin said she had suffered a deep wound to a finger on her right hand which left the bone exposed.
As she scrambled to book a flight back to Brazil to get away from the player, Cavallin wrote a message to the travel agent – provided to UOL – that said: “I need to get out of here before he kills me.”
He has been removed from the national team and police in Manchester have been given evidence by the police in Sao Paolo.

UOL wrote that they have seen messages on her WhatsApp from Antony where he is apologising for kicking and punching her.

Saddest thing is he won't be missed on the pitch if he is let go.
He will though, for a couple of reasons… first of all he’s our best right winger, and secondly he’s nowhere near as bad as everyone makes out. He’s underwhelming and sometimes infuriating but doesn’t deserve the shit he gets. That should be on the club and our manager for spending so much on him.

No he's not. Footballers literally get away with murder. There are 2nd and 3re and 4th and 5th chances. No one is done, at least at a professional level unless they go to prison that goes beyond their playing career.
Sorry mate, just meant his Utd career, however after reading his Insta statement, he seems pretty confident he'll be vindicated.

Umm he will be replaced, just like the other guy. And charge or not it will happen sooner or later, whether it's in two years, three, etc. We might miss him until January, that's it.

None of that is new evidence though.
It's all known by the police. The only new element is the interview she gave to the magazine.

It's what the police that haven't yet concluded there's sufficient evidence to charge him, already have.

You can't suspend someone from their job based on reiteration.

I can only hope we get clarity on what we do during this international break. If we’re going to temporary suspend him or something, then hopefully it gets done quickly in this break so it’s not something that’s bubbling over.

I hope this is all bollocks for a magnitude of reasons, mainly because what he is alleged to have done is sickening.

We’ve been absolutely cursed with shit personalities in this squad the last decade. If all true, what a sad sad situation.

The second interview given to a magazine about the same subject. All with a court case hanging over them. Such a weird decision. Impossible to work out the logic behind any of it.

I don’t think FFP is going to magically fix itself in January unfortunately. We won’t be replacing him till next summer at the earliest.

If i were to hazard an uncharitable guess I'd have a punt on it being a sign of frustration the police matter hasn't concluded to pave the way to a more financially lucrative civil trial - or pre- civil trial settlement.

I wonder if FFP can make some sort of exception for this sort of thing? I mean these are very unique circumstances

Well the Greenwood situation would have shown that no-one is above accountability, so that might have something to do with it - or another reason entirely.

I mean, those allegations are so serious that I feel the club will have to suspend him.
I feel like this is something the club, and especially Ten Hag, should have been aware of.
