I wonder if he sees Potter as a long term coach or someone to fill the gap until the summer when Amorim or someone else of interest is available
He's supposedly being given a 5 year contract, which typically Chelsea do not do. I think they see Potter as the long term coach and the perfect fit. Hopefully they're willing to invest time and energy into building for the long term with him.

Oh wow, was. If aware it was for that long. Will be interesting to see how he does and what he implements!

Lost Matheus Nunes, Palhinha, and Sarabia but Sporting having a much better start to the CL this season compared to last.

After a turbulent start to the season where we looked lackluster defensively which is not normal for a Amorim team he has turned it around and won 4 straight games with 4 clean sheets!

So Sporting’s season is not in fact over and dead?

In the league it is. Chances of winning the league title are dead in the water.

However if we can get to the R16 and win both domestic cups I would be happy now.

Another aspect of Amorim which should be talked about is his and Sporting’s scouting work.

Matheus Reis, Nuno Santos, Pedro Gonçalves, Palhinha (he gave him his chance), Manuel Ugarte, Marcus Edwards, Pedro Porro and now maybe Arthur Gomes.

A lot of these guys were talents hidden in our league who were signed with the approval of Amorim. He signs players who fit his system and way of working and he should be playoff for that.

Even in the league. It’s a long season with a huge WC break in between. I honestly don’t think it’s a lost cause. Of course the league form has to pick which it looks like it already has, plus your form in Europe, the momentum is back in your side.

I would agree with you 100% if this was any other league in the world.

No team has ever overturned a 8 point deficit in Portugal and only 2x has a 6 point deficit been overturned. The big 3 and especially Porto and Benfica don’t drop points often. The last two champions in Portugal each lost only 1 game in their league season.

In other words it’s a less then 1% chance of happening.

I would love nothing more for you to be right though !! ;)

Things in Porto are not well. I suspect players are getting mentally tired of Conceição.

Porto aren't the ones to worry about winning in Portugal; this year it's Benfica's title to lose (especially after that crazy win over Vizela a couple weeks ago).

EDIT: Hah apologies if this post came across as condescending mate - should have checked who I was replying to!

Don’t count out Braga. They have been the best side in Portugal this season so far.

Porto should not be in the top 3 by the end of the season in a “Normal” league.

Their squad is so poor. Only Evanilson and Pepe would start for Sporting

The squad is enough for top 3, I think so many seasons playing a football style that puts too much weight on intensity takes a toll on the players. Also, Sérgio Conceição bad temper is probably not easy to take for so many years in a row.

But yeah, David Carmo seems to be taking his time to adapt and João Mário is nowhere near a Fullback (I know it's an adaptation, but his positioning is mediocre). Uribe seems to be declining physically at 31, and they lost their main creative players this season, bringing no one to their place with enough quality. I can see them loosing more points until December.

But still they have functional solutions and more than enough for our league level.

The excess of games will take a toll once they need to rotate.
They have a pretty deep squad to be fair. Many solutions all over the pitch with young guys like Djalo and gomes along with Racic and Lainez.

No worries mate. Benfica will also loose points this season. The team sometimes gets stalled with sterile possession against low defensive blocks and lacks clinical players to score the opportunities.

All the "big 3" are rebuilding this season, pretty sure it will be a bit atypical.

In talks with him according to a Midlands newspaper, release clause of 25m euros in his Sporting clube contract.

I think it was orginally a Sporting fan that recommended I posted on this forum so sorry for repaying you guys like this if he decides to come.

Chances of joining mid season are next to 0% in my view. Revisit This in the summer

He can do better than Villa
Think Villa need to temper their expectations. They’re asking managers who are way out of their league to join them, hoping to get a Ancelotti at Everton type scenario. They’re in trouble, they aren’t in a glamorous part of the country and I highly doubt they can entice anyone that isn’t from the championship at this point.

He's probably the best young manager in the world.

But his career will be over If he takes over this job. If I was him I wouldn't touch this poison chalice

He'd be a fool to take the job. We should just get Warnock or Pulis, save ruining anyone with a future.

It's the right thing to do.

He's good but I wouldn't be sure about any Portuguese manager while Bruno is still at the club.

Is this guy any good? Sorry I'm too lazy to read the whole thread and the last post was from 2022.

Why do they keep bringing Zidane despite telling he isn't interested?
To sound like we're still a big club? Or just tell everyone how deluded we are? Or the news is simply fake and it's just for the clicks? Who knows tbh.

He's a great manager and I know a few personal stories about him to know he's an amazing human being, very down to earth and sensible person. I hope he doesn't go to united.

Do some of you lads get up in the morning and just say "what's the point in anything?" then go back to bed?
Not every day, just the days we play, to the extent I only really watch us by accident if nothing else gets on the way. That is, rarely, because most things are far more interesting.

If I get to watch us three times by year end I may have to take up photographing insects.

As silly as it sounds I think if we did have to get rid of Ten Hag I'd want us to chose someone who has a track record of playing good exciting football in the Prem.
Only De Zirbi fits that mould. The young and so called upcoming managers would be Xabi, De Ziribi, Amorim and to much lesser extent Thiago Motta with Bologna.

I wouldn’t be against it. He’s much younger than Ten Hag so at least we will be able to convince ourselves that he is developing, like Arteta.
