I take this comment from a few weeks ago back  to start with, the graphics/visuals look sickkkk. Honestly it looks so worth the hype. 2025 seems like a lifetime away though :boring:
It will be 2025 in 56 weeks!

I'm shocked at the amount of people that thought it would be out before December 2024! Rockstar always bring out a trailer at least 12 months before the game comes out.

I think it will come out in early 2025, maybe around February/March time.

I reckon they'll do a second trailer focused on the male protagonist. Probably April next year or something.

I also disagree with those disappointed it's gone back to Vice City.

I don't think you can get more batshit/easy to parody than the US. And Florida is basically a real life GTA state anyway. It's a melting pot of races, cultures, crime, environments, etc.. It's perfect for GTA.
Yeah, I agree. They've not 'done' Vice City like this. The last time we visited it looked like this, now it looks like this. We've also known that it is Vice City for years at this point so hard to be still disappointed.

Looks fantastic. Level of detail in the city, beaches etc. Population density and environments are insane.

Shame it will be 2026 before it's on PC. Might have to finally buy a PS5.
Yeah, same boat. Would rather throw money at my PC, but not waiting another 12 months to play this. I guess nothing it set in stone yet, let's see.

I don't know if remaking gta vice city is the optimal choice, in a way they've already perfected the 80s with 2 games.

They could have done London but I think GTA has become about parodying the American dream, could they even successfully pull of a parody of modern British society?

I think Rockstar's ethos is now GTA is for parodying modern society and their secondary titles such as Red Dead, La Noire etc will pay homage to other time periods.

In terms of periods covered in 3D there's

18th century - Red Dead Dead
Late 40s - LA Noire
80s - Vice City/VCS
Early 90s - San Andreas
Late 90s - LCS
Early 2000s - GTA 3
Late 2000s - GTA IV
2010s - GTA V
2020s - GTA VI

That just leaves the 50s, 60s and 70s not done in 3D, so maybe they'll release a non-gta game to cover one of these periods. Perhaps they could even do something set in or around the two worlds wars.

It's growing on me, I initially did not like it at all but after watching it multiple times it looks cool.

I also don't get the disappointment at 2025 date. It was never going to be any earlier than that, and it may very well be postponed beyond 2025 anyway.

Plus people would bemoan them rushing it out if it dropped next year and was another Cyberpunk

A proper next gen police system would be incredible too. They had aspects of it in GTA V and RDR2.

You could maybe change it in the options if you don't want it but having it where you could be hunted by the police and tracked down leading to a big manhunt would be cool. Or just smarter AI for it. Like if you're hiding from the police and you lose your wanted level you can just run past them 2 seconds after they were just looking for you.
There's an amazing mod for IV that completely revamps the police system.

Things like them not immediately engaging you but if they get a description of you then they'll be suspicious and obviously if they've got the details of a stolen car they'll be after you. Just little things to make it a little more tricky and realistic.

Anyway, the trailer - noticed the characters don't look much different from V characters. Expected to be blown away by next-gen graphics and they look a bit old hat. Skin textures still look like clay. Especially noticeable in the part on the beach with characters in bikinis.

I got really bored of GTA online and I don't think Florida is the best place for a game to be set - there was an NFS game recently that was set in a Florida environment and there just wasn't enough variety to make it worth it. Vice City was less interesting than the GTA3 map but made up for it with a better story and the vibe. I'm sure they'll pack in as much as they can from everything they've learnt from V and RDR2 but I'm sure they'll be making it more obvious than ever to sell you Shark cards and will ruin it with OP things like the Oppressor and Deluxo.

Btw this looked fecking great for its time. Back then it felt incredibly realistic with the imagination doing the rest. 20 from now GTA6 will probably look bad - doesn’t mean that’s a reason to keep doing the same setting.

I’ll put it this way, MGS2 blew me away in a way that RDR2 /GoW could not - because for it’s time it was absurd looking whereas the latter two were great but not quite that ahead of their time (GoW did have a big affect on me but more in teams of the visual and narrative design).

Personally I don’t see an issue. Every developer has their own forte. Rockstars is Americana open worlds - so what other options were there for a modern day map? Texas?! LA? New York? The options aren’t as diverse as people think.

Yeah Florida allows for everything except basically snowy mountains. If you put it in Texas you'd basically not be able to put black people in the game.

Yeah I liked the fictional Montana (actually I probably liked the gameplay more than the world) that Far Cry 5 did which was I think a bit like that belt of the US but it doesn’t suit a GTA game at all. Vegas could be another option I suppose but again all glitz and not enough variety.

I had the exact same thought. Far Cry 5 had a fun setting, but it's hard to see a GTA game there.

Personally, I'd love to see them do something like they did with San Andreas, with three different cities.

You don't need to defend it. I was there on day one and played it again last year. However, it's undeniable that the scope, fidelity and mechanics of a modern open world don't demand a revisit.

This would he make sense if options like Tokyo, Subcontinent, Europe or a fictional place like Night City were an option. But it’s not - this is a Rockstar world and the options are what they are. So I’m not getting the fuss about location.

Anyway it will mean nothing to me if it plays like their previous titles. That’s what I want to see change big time.

I feel sad that we have fully grown men excited for this.
I think it's really nice to see everyone happy about something for once. It doesn't happen often these days so take it where you can get it I say.

Odd comment.

What things is it ok to be excited about?

Enjoyed Punk's return a lot and have probably replayed it more than 50 times. Not really enjoying the wrestling part as all the matches are the same and the in-ring storytelling is either missing or is forced. Also, in terms of storylines, nothing seems interesting.

As for the wrestlers, LA Knight is a throwback to the Attitude Era. Cody has improved a lot in terms of charisma although he is still a bit sloppy in the ring. Kevin Owens is incredible, and Sami Zayn is good.
I guess we should all move over to the wrestling thread instead?

Agreed. It's one of the best places they could choose to portray the satire they do so well and to reflect current life and world situations.

I would absolutely love a London based GTA but I don't think it will ever go there. The US market for Rockstar is too strong.
Americans don't buy GTA because it's set in America.. And Miami is such a dull location!

A new Grand Theft Auto is something I've looked forward to since San Andreas in 2004. Grand Theft Auto release day is one of the best feelings in life. Especially now with it being a 10-12 year wait it's just special and you're damn right I'm excited for it.

Well, According to a leak

Couldn't disagree more. I love Vice City and I've been waiting years for them to go back there. And according to one of the leaks, there's going to be multiple cities.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get like a San Andreas style map where they join say Florida and Georgia together so they can include a city based on Atlanta too. Just a hunch I have...

Anyone who thinks Miami is boring will get an all expenses paid trip there from me, then we'll see who thinks it's boring.

No expenses will be paid and you'll be shipped in an oil drum.

I just don't think Americans would buy GTA as much if it was set in London and the UK market loves the parody of Americans.

Why not NY as the setting?
Because that's only 2 games ago and it would break the cycle of the original 3D trilogy. GTA 3 (Liberty City = NY) > GTA Vice City > GTA San Andreas > GTA 4 (Liberty City again) > GTA 5 (San Andreas again, although a smaller part of it) > GTA 5 (Vice City again).
