He needs a full season under his belt
I don't think so. He's looking pretty ok right now imo. And Getafe fans said he's making new levels by each month. Which I'd agree with. The whole attack of Getafe now heavily depends on him. They even let him do their set pieces.

Imo ETH would really like to call him back in Jan. He wanted to keep him and now he absolutely need goals to save his own ass. And also we do to get into top 4. It'll be up to the new management of course.

Imo it's actually quite a right time to call him back by Jan if the new management wants to. They could call him back before the announcement of Jim. Which would spare Jim some of the bad PR. Then if they wait until summer it might be too late since reportedly the likes of Barca and Madrid are chasing him. Which would make him refuse to sign a new contract and leave on a free by the end of 2025 season.

By the summer 2024 imo the most logical decision for us would be to sell him for some small money. It's unlikely he'd want to stay here if Barca or Madrid actually want him I think.

That's a good point. Recalling him before Radcliffe shows up would spare him from any negative PR. On the other hand it would also make him responsible for making a decision to keep him at United.

Several have suggested that the reason neither Mason nor her have given any explanation for the audio/photos is because she will be incriminating herself
Who are these "several"? Several redcafe posters with the view he should be integrated back into the team? Several privy to all of the evidence?

It would give him the decision to make in summer though, the press wouldn't let him get away with it that easily.

Jesus, that's a new level of victim blaming.

Yeah but that's how politics and PR work imo. Everyone know obviously it's the new management but the media can't exactly say so since it's officially a decision from the previous management.

We're at least 2 years from Barca or Madrid going anywhere near him. Ignoring everything else he's done, this period of 4 months has been his only consistent run of form since his breakthrough season in 19/20.

If you include all the issues off the pitch, clubs will be wary of making a big financial commitment on a player that's had constant criticism of his attitude since he broke through.

And also, clubs will want to know why despite alleged evidence suggesting he was innocent, United took several months to get close to allowing him back. Clearly, something was going on. And I'm not having that a few tweets from Z list celebs like Rachel Riley had any impact on decision making.

They are reportedly chasing him atm. And if I'm not wrong their scouts were also spotted at Getafe ground. Maybe they're looking at someone else but watching Getafe I'd quite doubt so.

Imo Jan is also a good time to sign him for them. If he can continue his current trajectory his price would be much higher than now by the end of the season. And he'll be even better in the second half of the season. Which might help them a bit in their title chase and CL campaign.

Both Barca and Madrid atm don't have a good left footed RW. Raphinha isn't doing well there and Lewan is 35. Vinicius Jr is out for a while so Rodrygo has moved to the left and Madrid don't even have a good #9. Greenwood can play both RW and #9. Might be a real bargain for them I think. A 100m talent at a huge discount. Would be quite stupid not to be interested imo.

Correct me if I’m wrong (memories a little hazy), but wasn’t her Instagram hacked? She never actually pressed charges herself?

How can follow up charges be brought up against her based on the above?
Did not hear that one, that should be easy enough to prove by the police

And if they want to come back to their home town, and Mason wants to play for the team he's played for since he was 6 years old?

Do they need to make a statement or is a simple "Mason Greenwood is back from his loan" sufficient?

They have a child together don't they?

At what point do we as a collective say feck it, it's her choice if she wants to stay with him and just let the man play football again?

People do dumb shit every single day. We've had players in the Prem who killed people with their vehicles keep playing on.

We've had racist pricks who bite people.

90% of the players are uneducated dumb pricks who we celebrate and pay millions to watch them run.

We're all hypocrites.

I’d love to play for the team I support as do millions of United fans, not sure why the club should worry about that

Aye, people are too short sighted here.

There’s a real possibility of buying Greenwood now for absolute peanuts in comparison to what he will cost if he continues to get back to his old levels. There’s also been very little anger in Spain about him.
Clubs take punts all the time on players, but bringing in Greenwood for say 35 million…. I’d say it’s a no brainer. If he doesn’t quite work out, the club will still get most of that back for a winger who guarantees goals.

The longer Greenwood is on a football pitch, producing and improving, the faster that price will increase as more and more clubs become interested.

Why don’t we just bring him back and “tough it out” - Getafe have provided us with a template of how to do it and any fuss seems to have quickly died down as the novelty wore off, to the point that other major clubs are now looking at him.

Reportedly being the main word here. They'll have to be convinced that some of his personal issues (whatever they are perceived to be) are a thing of the past.

And as I say, proper clubs don't tend to sign players on the back of 4 good months. If he's still delivering the same level of performances by the end of next season, their interest will become more concrete.

You could also argue that Greenwood would be daft to go there yet anyway. If he had any sense, he'll stay at a club at Getafe's level for a bit and stay out of any major publicity for a while. More stable players than him have completely frozen at these clubs.

I was responding to a question which assumes Greenwood is innocent, obviously in that scenario there is no victim
That's still a strong statement to make.

As I've said on here before, I've worked for charities dealing with victims of domestic abuse. More often than not, the biggest advocate for the guilty party is the victim. On at least 50% of cases we saw, it would very rarely get to court because the victim withdrew their case usually because they were terrified.

In the eyes of the law, the person we assumed was the guilty party was therefore innocent because ultimately there was no case. In reality, we were talking to women everyday with black eyes and fractured bones. They were clearly victims even in the cases where they go back to their abuser.

You're using social media to campaign for economic / career sanctions against an individual based on snippets of publicly available information. That is the definition of trial by social media. What makes it so awful is that it is not a real trial and the individual being attacked never has an opportunity to challenge evidence or cross-examine witnesses as they would in a proper trial.
Take a bow son.
Irrespective of your views about the CPS decision and personal preferences regarding the player's future career, does anyone think that there is any way back for Greenwood at United without a reasonable explanation being offered (by the player and / or the club) for the audio and images that were released? It seems obvious to me that, absent such an explanation, there is no chance that Greenwood will ever play for United again - the magnitude of the inevitable backlash would simply be beyond what United are willing to endure.

True, there is probably no explanation that will fully satisfy all those who have followed this case, but if there is a context to the released material that casts it in a different light and there is a desire to resurrect Greenwood's United career, then the club and / or player will need to elucidate that context, publicly.
Let’s see what The Athletic have to say when he goes to his new club with no explanation being offered.

From the very outset The Athletic set the narrative that the fanbase needs to be outraged when football has never been a morally superior industry. What will happen is, those journalists who were so outraged by the notion of Greenwood playing football again [who have said next to feck all since he went to Getafe] will rehash their stories if there’s a sense he’s coming back only to show they don’t actually give a damn once he’s left & playing elsewhere, again.

We all saw/heard what we saw/heard, no amount of lip service from Greenwood will justify what is quite frankly unjustifiable. Though my view remains that I want my footballers to play football so whilst the industry continues to allow criminals of multiple forms to do their job, I don’t believe Manchester United Football Club should be in the habit of setting a standard no other club is.

Setting the bar for dismissal at public outrage is dangerous, in particular when the CPS with far more information couldn’t take this further. People need to realise Greenwood doesn’t owe them peace of mind.

If United fans had been overwhelmingly pro Greenwood from early on (from when the case was thrown out anyway) the agenda would have been set in the media and the "campaign" to bring him back would have been reported on.

Ultimately, the only public facing campaign was the female fans against Greenwood movement that attracted national and local media attention. That ultimately became the focal point for media discussion. There was no active public campaign to bring him back aside from a few people on Twitter moaning. I'm often critical of the media but again, in this case, they were only responding to what was being said by matchgoing fans.

"I don’t believe Manchester United Football Club should be in the habit of setting a standard no other club is."

Really? Why not? Why shouldn't Manchester United set a different standard that nobody else has or is doing? I appreciate we haven't always in the past but why shouldn't we now?

If the club want to keep Mason and Mason is happy to try and be integrated back into the team…. The club should be sending positive snippets into the press and also report a new contract is being discussed.

loads of different ways the club can spin things about how Mason now has family… doing charity work and donating part of his salary to abuse victims etc…

heck even ask a reporter to ask a simple question to ETH like has he been following his development. So many simple positive replies ETH can come out with.

The silence is deafening and the longer it gets left the worse the response from social media and the press will be.

Oh come on how many times you've seen a club come out and officially say they're chasing a player? Of course agree we can't be 100 ℅ sure but that's what the repots say.

Regarding his personal issue imo that is not even an issue for them. There's been basically no backlash in Spain so far. And I don't think he would be that stupid to do it again.

Imo they don't chase him only because he's been doing good for the last months. But also what he has shown in the past. A +100 m naturally two footed forward who started banging insane goals at 18 yo in the PL. You don't see that often.

And no imo he won't be daft to come to Barca or Madrid atm. It's not like they have some world class RW or #9 there atm anyway. Then the thing with Barca and Madrid is as long as you're doing well on the pitch pretty much all are forgiven.

Nothing is stopping him coming back to Manchester but he has no divine right to play for the club, whether he's been there since he was six or not.

All this post seems to be saying is 'because all these other shitty people have played in the premiership we should invite Greenwood back' which is no sort of reasoning.

Also, the 'we're all hypocrites' argument is a tired extension of the reasoning that dictates 'well you drive a car that uses oil so can't possibly object to the way women and the lgbtq community are treated in certain middle eastern, oil producing nations'. It's ludicrous.

Im in no doubt hes coming back, hes rehabing away from the club no different than a long term injury. The court of social media and people opinion views will sound different as it wont be as relevant by then, and the moral compass might (hopefully) be pointing at City's crimes to football than a stupid talented but over paid young lad and his dysfunctional relationship....

It's a weird line of thinking. Instead of trying to change the culture for the better and be a club that moves forward and hopes to change football and the league in that respect, it's rather interpreted as let's keep football problematic.

Exactly. It's almost a fatalistic 'we can't change things' mentality, but it's actually even more morally dubious as it's purely fueled by a desire to win more football matches.

Nonsense.

The same group that campaigned against his return will campaign again. Their voices will still have an impact.

United's lack of complete consensus regarding his return will still be an issue.

It's in the best interests of everyone that he moves abroad for the foreseeable.

Take a bow, son.

The people calling out Alonso as a 'murderer' could not care less about the victim. They care much less for Greenwood's. It's all just ammunition for their target of getting Greenwood back into the team.

Same thing with Qatar's state bid: completely overlook the human rights abuse because 'yeah, but the west'. The intense stupidity of whataboutery. The demand of deflection as true intentions are concealed.

What's concerning is why they are so adamant United should get him back in. This insidious notion we are 'the court of public opinion' rather than people rightly disgusted with the application of sexual violence - as though, in a world fawning over Andrew Tate and Donald Trump, such is a male prerogative to control women.

It's all justified if he comes back.

I urge United to do the right thing and make sure his crime is punished with a lifetime ban. If it transpires Antony is similarly guilty he too must be shown the door. Giggs, too.

Yep, the same impact of the Glazers out movement then? If only life was so simple? The best interests of everyone....dont think so. The club isnt going to let such a valuable asset walk out the door based on morals. When did the Glazers every demonstrate that?

It'll be far better for Greenwood and his family if he doesn't come back (regardless of if he did it or not). If he players for you lot he's going to have "rapist" screamed at him every week forever.

It'll be another loan next season (hopefully for the bean counters at Old Trafford, a profitable one) and then a free transfer to a decent sized club in Spain or Italy.

Agreed. I think a move elsewhere now suits all parties better than trying to resurrect his United career.

I still think it’s 50/50 if he plays for United again. It’s certainly not a forgone conclusion that he will be sold hence the loan deal and the carefully worded club statement.

The move has undoubtedly been set up to give the club time to assess how things play out in the media, check the player has still ‘got it’ and protect/increase his value should a decision be made to cash in.

It was a sensible thing to do as it basically keeps all options on the table.

Eh?! Surely you can see this is a false equivalency. You can't see the difference between the opinions of a bunch of racists on Twitter and the opinions of fans who find the idea of bringing Greenwood back into the gold distasteful? I'll give you a clue: one group holds disgusting, prejudiced views with which the club's values do not align, the other is against the return of a footballer who's been accused of badly beating his girlfriend.

I think if he had a longer term deal, that would be the case. I just don't see with us having to make a decision this summer, how Ineos would want that to be their first big decision.

His contract expires in the summer of 2025, I presume we also have +1 year on this as well ?
