Bit ridiculous that the PS5 version costs an extra tenner. 30 quid for a graphics upgrade and expansion is just dumb.

I know they've already updated the game on PS5 to run at 60 fps but this still feels like selling us a PS5 remaster under the guise of a DLC expansion. An extra €30 for those who already own the full game on PS4 doesn't scream value. I guess it depends on the size of the Iki Island story expansion, if it's a decent chunk maybe the pricing isn't too bad.

I'll wait until they sell the DLC separately, or just pick it up when it's on sale.

I'm only about 50% through this, but I won't be picking up the expansion.

It already looks and plays amazing on PS5 and I suspect an extra Island with a massive bunch of extra map clearing stuff to do, isn't really going to be enough of an incentive to pay so much for it.

Had this been the legends mode plus new island then it would look like better value. Giving away the Legends mode for free, whilst being an awesome thing and I am glad they did it, means reduced incentive to get the expansion.

Just started the Director's Cut on the PS5... Good Lord, it's a beautiful thing to look at

Been playing Director's Cut for the last two weeks, brilliant game. The world is amazing to look at and combat is quite satisfying, it also hits the right spot for me in terms of difficulty where it's challenging but not annoying.

The only downside for me is that side stories can be a bit tedious. Some of them are genuinely interesting and well written but some are just dragging, eg the Yumiko ones are just plain boring and seem to take forever to go from place to place. But I guess you don't have to do them anyway and the main story is compelling enough to keep you interested. I will probably clean all the side stories after I finish main story anyway (including Iki Island).

How is this different from the base game?

Adjusted to PS5, and includes Iki Island (though it is super confusing how to actually get access to it as it does not appear on missions list by default).

Just couldn’t get myself to complete this. It’s actually a good game but so tedious to ride to the different mission locations because of that shitty wind guiding gps system. Why couldn’t they have just made a normal location guiding system?

The idea was that people would look at the world instead of a mini map or marker. Finding stuff was never particularly difficult and the minimal UI was nice. I liked it.

Yeh the win mechanic was one of the things they got right alongside the excellent combat. Shame the rest of the game was just a boring shell though.

I never finished it and ended up trading it in. The combat was fantastic as you said and visually it’s a very beautiful game to sightsee & explore but other than that, I just found it very tedious and boring. The missions both story and side were very repetitive I felt.

Out of all the great PS exclusives like Uncharted, GOW, Horizon, TLOU, R&C, Returnal etc this one was a big let down imo.

I just finished Elden Ring. I have tortured myself with innumerable deaths in all of the Souls games. None of that has ever angered me like the stupid hostage saving missions in this otherwise great (although tedious) game. I am on the "pick a hostage" on the island and have died (myself or the hostage) 30 times. You get swarmed by 10-15 enemies which I could handle, but not when I have to abandon my defense/attacks every 20 seconds to get the guy off the hostage. Combine that with a shitty pseudo lock on mechanic and I have about had it. Really bad design.

When they do the sequel I hope they do it exclusively for PS5. I had a few little issues with this game but it's undeniably one of the best looking games i've ever played. Imagine what they could do with the PS5 sequel without having to also port it to the PS4

Replaying this on the PS5 after a completing it on release. Has a few issues but the graphics and swordplay are beautiful. I still maintain that the AI is a bit painful at times but that's the case for most games anyway.

I was wondering if they'll set part of the second game on Tsushima as well to reflect the history of the Mongol invasion? If that's true then the development time for the sequel should, in theory, be shorter as they have a lot of the same assets already?

Also, the Mongols didn't get very far on mainland Japan did they? So again, i'm guessing this will affect the map size for the next game?

not at all.
I have a feeling that the natural progression of this story is overthrowing the Shogun.

My vibe is that Tomoe will be the protagonist in the next game with Jin coming back in the third.

Wow, that'd be interesting. I had to look up the history of the Mongolian invasion of Japan and as far as I can see they didn't actually touch much of mainland, if anything at all....would be very happy to be corrected on that by history enthusiasts though :D .So maybe they will change it up quite a bit for the sequel as you say.

I still haven't started the DLC yet.

About to play this for the first time on PS5. Have read it's quite an easy platinum and watching blue eye samurai got me into wanting to play something like this.

Hopefully will get the Plat just in time for Rebirth!

Platting it sounds like a chore though. Very much a busy work open world game. Ignoring all that filler is what made me enjoy it more.
Apparently it's only 3/10 difficulty and sometimes I like running around doing easy stuff while listening to a podcast.

I like that it forces you to watch cut scenes. I'm bad for skipping them in some games.

Yea it's not that difficult and I actually really liked the environment in this game. The side stuff is mostly some peaceful activities like haikus and shrines which is a nice break from fighting all the time. The actual combat in the game is great too. The story is where I felt they could have fleshed it out a bit more. Falls off hard in the latter parts of the game for me.

Nope! First time ever.
You’re in for a great time. Although I liked this on the PS4 I only truly appreciated the PS5 version. Given its superb combat and visual design - this game really should be played on the newest hardware. The controller features also add a lot.

It's been a while but I don't remember that much busywork for the platinum. Only those fox chases felt annoying, other than that it's not too bloated for an open-world game. Nowhere near the 100 hour affairs that many of these games are.

Ah, you don't need all the Fox dens, hot springs, haiku's and whatnot for the plat?

I've since realised that the plat thing I found online was only about the base game. Seems the ps plus version has add-on stuff so about 25 trophies more! I imagine they will be similar difficult to obtain though.
