To follow, according to a Hamas official, Qatar and Egypt told them that Biden would guarantee the 2nd phase of the ceasefire proposal.
The Egyptians gave a softened proposal to Hamas with a Biden guarantee, and this wasn't consulted with Israel? That's the gist here?
The Israelis are reviewing the proposal at the moment according to reports. I wouldn't be surprised if they accept the terms if they are what they've been reported to be.
He didn't say anything about it being a softened proposal, but yes, he said that Biden would guarantee it.
Netanyahu had refused to send a delegation to the negotiations in Cairo. Still, it also doesn't make sense for the US to make this promise without consultation with Israel.

In Israel, some unnamed officials are saying that Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire proposal that was never discussed with Israel (i.e major changes submitted one-sidedly in comparison to a former proposal that apparently was discussed by the two sides and those in the middle.).
Seeing as people in Gaza are already celebrating, this looks to be a very good move by Hamas.

I mean Netanyahu doesn't want this conflict to end anytime soon. Lest he actually has to face jail time once he's out of office. And then there's the hardliners who want to 'mow the lawn' as much as possible, killing as many Palestinians as they could feasibly get away with.

Okay, having seen the Proposal that Hamas "agreed to", it's a bit of a ridiculous media release to put out given Israel was never going to accept it.
Doesn't mean anything. It's like taking out a restraining order against an abusive spouse who still knows where you live and have all the keys to the locks. Netanyahu's driver for this conflict is simply saving himself and his political future. Unfortunately, it's going to be pyrrhic victory for him and also Israel.

Exactly what I had in mind last night. There is no way to spin it after Hamas accepted a deal which the US, UN, and mediators all agree to.
