It's unbelievable that both are professional being paid millions of pounds per year but acted like a child from both side.

1) The player didn't train properly
2) The manager announced to whole world in the media
3) The player defended himself
4) The manager asked for public apology
5) The player refused
6) The player was out of the team a few months
7) The player go on loan

The club is valued at 5-6Billions and we are talking about a 80M asset. I would have thought the club should have a standard procedure to deal with trivial matters like this? How badly run we are and now ETH is following Murtough's way?
ETH said nothing wrong about Sancho, Sancho publicly called his manager a liar then refused to apologize. Has a history of this type of behavior since City.....and go figure, ends up in the UCL final.

Maybe ETH is a liar. He tells us United are one of the most "dynamic and entertaining" teams in the league.

If Sancho wasn't upto it in training, fine, leave him out. Deal with it internally.

Ten Hag chose to go public. And i think if he got asked that question again, he would answer differently. He was frustrated post the Arsenal loss.

Yes, Sancho is a baby and should never have gone to twitter, but if he genuinely thinks he trained upto standard, then i can see why he may be frustrated. Saying someone's training wasn't up to scratch is a pretty damning thing to say about a player publicly. I dont recall a manager every saying that about a player.

We don't know for sure, but i dont think this has helped Ten Hag this season. Seeing one of your mates frozen out and training with the kids cant be good for morale.

And besides, Sancho is an asset with a large monetary value. So short sighted to devalue this asset by telling the world he is a shitty trainer.

Sancho has won this one. He is off to the CL final. Ten Hag is heading for the sack.

Shite at training, constantly being late, overly shite in matches....yeah lets side with the player and his buddies. Pathetic lot if any of those guys went along with downed tools because of Sancho.

He was very badly profiled by Solksjaer. Doesn't have the pace to consistently beat a defender and is best suited to making quick passes forward and then running on to link the attack further. When he first arrived we tried using him as a runner like Rashford and it just didn't work. Would have been far better suited to a Guardiola side. But then again they work relentlessly off the ball and Sancho doesn't really.

Never should have signed him in hindsight. I don't think he's in any way shown that he's good enough to have a future at United anyway, even if he's made it to a Champions League final. He's a gifted player without the athleticism to thrive consistently.
Agree with this. Very much a system player that does well playing intrecrate, passing football.

I bet he would shine at Arsenal or City.

As you say, badly profiled. Before we start thinking about wide players who can retain the ball, we should first have midfielders who can do the same.

Says the manager, who we know is deluded.

Fine for a manager to be a disciplarian, but he has to command respect first. For that, he needs to be winning games and his tactics need to be right. Ten Hag has done neither, so shouldn't have been swinging his cock about like he was Fergie.

The players lost belief in him. He talks shit, his signings are shit and his tactics are shit. Then he creates another problem in forcing Sancho to train with the reserves. Another reason for players to lose faith.

Should have apologised and played second fiddle to the Brazilian fidget spinner but alas he chose to play in the champions league final while the great Eric the Ten Hag is playing dynamic and entertaining football against the likes of Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Poor lad I feel for him.

Do people have short memories? Have they forgotten how shit Sancho was while playing for Man Utd. He is not suited for intensity of PL.

The guy wasn't great for United and whenever he played he wasn't very good at all. He played under Solskjaer, Carrick and Rangnick before ETH, none of which got a tune out of him. When ETH came in the standards in the club were awful, Sancho trained terribly and his performances weren't good either. In a time when the squad are lazy and the work ethic is poor and aren't playing for the badge - attempting to make this guy a united player is a waste of time. It sends out completely the wrong message. I hope dortmund win the champions league so we can get some good money for him.

I agree, the last thing we need is 24 year old senior player who hasn't lived up to his potential, in a position of influence with new arrivals.

Do not want him anywhere near the club. Really don't want club to promote dissent among the players towards their manager.

That being said, he could score 4 goals in CL final and Dortmund will fecking low ball us for another loan. Keep this virus away from the team under any cost.

He wasn't even very good last night either. Was amazed how excited McCoist was getting every time he even got close to the ball.

As the old saying goes, you're not paid to play you're paid to train. He refused to do all 5 press ups as the 'punishment' for being on the losing side of some passing drill... he allegedly gets paid 250-350k a week.

My sister in law works 12 hour shifts as a nurse, gets paid feck all in comparison and has all manner of horrible people verbally abusing her because they have to wait a long time to be seen.

Shit manager with ego vs shit player with ego, none of them will be missed.
One thing I would say is that ETH was not just in dealing with all the players, a current example is not giving Amad an opportunity but rather persist with the Brazilian fidget master:lol:

He’d be dreadful at both as he’s lazy, slow and won’t press.

Indeed. People won't tolerate collegues who do not put a shift in. That's the bare minimum. He's a professional and he gets paid handsomely by that. Why could Sancho get a pass?

Tbh I don't even think that is that bad? If he refused to do the drill, sure, but refusing punishment isn't the same.

Such mismanagement of the situation. I don't even think the manager should have said what they did initially, especially on the back of another defeat - he did feel/read as scapegoating to me, but ultimately, could have just gave him a dressing down and fined him, then reintegrated him, rather than big bad wolf ultimatums and banishing the player from training with the first team and then loaning them out.

Even worse is that for all the big disciplinarian antics, can't even get a tune or result out of the players. Said it before, but if you're going to make big decisions you need to show results otherwise you just look like a goof.
Altough Sancho was in the wrong I think the whole thing was mishandled. Maybe Arnold and Murtagh could or should have did more.

The thing about being a disciplinarian is if 18 months into your tenure major discipline issues are still cropping up then it gives the impression that your methods aren't really working. After this Varane was frozen out too for months despite being fit with the manager talking nonsense about him not being able to play LCB, the reasons for that we may never know.

You shouldn’t be, McMoist is a very excitable chap, and loves a cause.

Newcastles world ending injuries was his last one, never heard a peep about ours!

But then followed it up by calling his manager a liar in public. How would Ferguson have dealt with that do you think? Or even the self policing that the then squad full of winners would have done for him?

I imagine that if Fergie was in charge or the squad full of winners was in place then it wouldn't have got to that situation in the first place.

There were plenty of players shown the door for such things over the years. Look at Jaap Stam, just for writing a book and giving away dressing room info

I don't recall prolonged periods of toxicity though with players or the squad under Fergie or that side is what I mean. It was a situation that happened and was dealt with very quickly. The environment of United now is very different and it's a breeding ground for negativity.

That's obviously true but still scoring 44 goals in 45 matches (29 goals in 26 league matches) is hardly easy and not something of a finished player. The second top striker in the league is Mitrovic at 22 goals, a very good player. Malcom has scored 13 goals, Mane 12, Benzema 9, Mahrez 10 etc, so hardly a very easy league to score. I am pretty sure that Weghorst and Hojlund wouldn't be scoring at anywhere that rate there.
Ronaldo has definitely done better than expected in Saudi Arabia, his numbers are impressive and he's scored plenty of really great goals there. That does not mean he's not over the top and done on the biggest stage.
Mitrovic, Mane, Benzema, Mahrez, Firmino and Malcom all knows that they have retired and plays in a Sunday league. Ronaldo still thinks he plays on the highest level. The Saudi League is ranked outside the top 15 leagues in the world, below the Championship, the Austrian BL etc......
The reason Ronaldo leaving Man United was a must for us wasn't his lack of ability to put the ball in the back of the net, it was his lack of ability to be a teamplayer....His presence on the pitch instantly made us a worse team.

Sancho is young and can still be formed, his talent is big enough to give another go under a different management.

Dortmund can feck off to be honest. Every year they sell players for north of €100m and then when they want to sign someone they give it the whole "we can't afford to sign these players permanently at these prices". If they can't cough up the money in the summer, Sancho's options should be Saudi or get your shit together at United/play in the reserves.

Just because Fergie and serial winners aren’t there anymore Ten Hag should just let everything fly?

I don’t think many clubs would be fine with Sancho’s behaviour. Taarabt might have been like that, but at least he fecking turned it on regularly.

Some people reassess situations and come to different conclusions based on updated info and expectations....

Some double down as they'd rather not challenge their preconceptions etc.....

It is what it is

No? I'm saying that if you're going to compare Ten Hag to Fergie then you also need to compare and contextualise the state of the clubs in those days also. United wasn't a breeding ground for negativity under Fergie where players needed to go into a side to try and get the club back to it's best or lift the mood. They weren't entering a negative environment. Perhaps Fergie would have understood how to deal with Sancho better and his character. Obviously Sancho has partial blame in the way he handled the situation but the way United is and perhaps the way Ten Hag is, isn't exactly a happy as larry environment either and can cause some players such as Sancho to shrink and underperform.

Anyway, the original point was concerning a training session where he refused to do a punishment for losing (allegedly?). I still don't think that's too bad and it is very different to refusing to take part in the drill at all.

I was sure Stam was really sold to balance the books after Utd signed Veron and RVN, the whole book thing / achilles concerns were just an excuse.

Yall need to go look in the Sancho performance threads whilst he has been at United, the dude was Antony before Antony a colossal waste of money on him the fact that he is playing well for a club he previously also played well at shouldn't be a surprise and I'd caveat the playing well with in a handful of games, he has been there a minute and his G/A isn't anything to write home about

People wonder why we are in the state we are in , then want players like sancho back despite 2 and a half years of (being extremely generous) bang average performances, we can’t keep giving players chance after chance year after year, that’s how we’ve ended up with the likes of martial sat on huge contracts based on nothing but potential, can’t believe how many people criticise the running of the club on one hand and then side with players like sancho when something like this happens and wish to give them another chance, we all saw that sabitzer and sancho were not good enough for us to ultimately get to where we want to be and personally whilst sabitzer always gave his all I had no worries about them leaving us whatsoever, same with Darmian lukaku etc, Sancho is not suddenly going to be a superstar for us if he comes back, in all likelihood we will be served up the same performances he’s shown so far combined with a the complete lack of fight whenever things go wrong and everyone will be complaining how he should be sold next summer, (sorry for the rant I play football myself and can’t stand anyone who doesn’t try as hard as they can at least for themselves, if I can forget my grievances with managers at amateur level and get on with playing then I’m sure somebody been paid a wage like sanchos can swallow it for 90 minutes )

Not sure I buy all of this. If he was constantly shite in training and late, I highly doubt Dortmund would have tolerated that and loaned him back.

He's just not the type of winger Utd can benefit from the way we play. He has quite a limited skill set, the things he's excellent at though (beating a man and exchanging passes in tight spaces) are highly valuable, but only of real benefit for a team that dominates the ball and can afford to have him as a bit of a luxury where that's his main job and he's constantly got players around him to exchange with.

Doesn't seem to really have the mentality, strength or stamina to want to run up and down all day or defend lot.

He looked a little better in terms of work rate for Dortmund to me in the CL, but I never saw him doing that for Utd. Good player but not right for United in it's current form.
