Let's not get carried away by last night's performance. PAOK are poor, so he should be able to show his talent. He's had other opportunities under ETH - some good, some bad. I'm not convinced by him yet, but he deserves to start against Leicester. Hopefully another good performance and more confidence building in time for Amorim's arrival.
He's still lightweight IMO and can get bossed in the PL. I think he'll be the kind of player to have a real mix of games as opposed to someone who has specific strengths that take them to the next level more consistently.

I'll be honest, while I feel his out of possession work has almost always been great, particularly in the press (he has this deceptive quickness that catches defenders off guard); there are some games where I've been disappointed that he hasn't worked hard to impose himself by making runs and being decisive when we're in possession. At times he seems to have coasted through games, which especially grates as it's clear he's the one with the technical ability to really make a difference, and he should be grabbing those chances to show his quality.
I wasn't concerned at first when he started getting benched as I thought he did need to be sent a message, however, that stretched to a month, which makes no sense considering who he's been losing his place to.

I agree with you. But then I realise this is our level now. We can't be comparing our wingers to Giggs, Beckham and Ronaldo. Them days are gone. Amad is the best we have and needs to start. Hopefully when Amiron comes in, he can improve him or can replace him over time.
I agree re the level of PAOK, however he fair'd better than Garnacho against the same opposition and Rashford when he came on. Yes he's lightweight, and always will be given his size but talent wise he's miles ahead of Rashford and should be starting more games than both imo.
It was night and day between him and Mazrouri on the right, and Dalot and Garnacho on the left.
The latter two looked like they had brought about 1 functioning braincell to the game between them and were fighting over who gets to eat it.
And its harsh on Garnacho as he's still very young, but we seem to have decided to rely on him for productivity and he is wasteful 90% of the time. You don't generally start a 20 year old winger every game ad expect them to be the main source of goals.
Amad gets involved less but if there's a gap to go into, or a player free, or chance to get a shot away, you actually have half confidence he will make the right choice. And if there isn't you know he isn't going to just try it anyway.
The thing is, like his team mates in attack, he has clear strengths and weaknesses that can not be wished away but he deserves to be in the mix until clear starters who can produce the consistency required emerge (from the current selection) or are signed. It feels like, under ETH, he had to be perfect to get a chance to play whilst the same wasn't demanded of Garnacho and Rashford.
If ETH was still in charge he probably wouldn't start a game again until after Christmas.

Garnacho needs to take a step back and get dropped for a few games and develop, right now he is regressing. So I would hope that the new coach can manage him better.
Amad has shown he has good IQ, decision making is up there with better players, he knows when to pass, shoot or draw the foul.
There is no one been carried away when the only other option is Rashford who rarely gets dropped
He doesn't suit the kick and run type of football we have become accustomed to and can seem out of place because of that. From what I've been reading the new manager doesn't play that type of football so we might see better conditions for Amad to grow.

FYI Catamo was an average winger (not saying Diallo is average) that Amorim converted into a very good wingback. He has been Sporting "can-opener" in many games and decisive in big ones

Bang on. Amad is the best attacking threat we have - he also works hard, tracks back and presses. Why the others don't see that this is what is needed is beyond me. I'm looking at you Garnacho and you Rashford.
Oh 100% agree on that. He's the most deserving of our lot to play. I also think he has the ability to be so much more dangerous more consistently.
It's obvious when he decides he's going to impact the game, and when he's in that mood, he's very dangerous and teams can't live with him. Yesterday was an example and Liverpool in the Cup last year was another.
There were the odd games though where he just seemed content to pass the ball back and keep things ticking over. It might just be a personality thing where he defers to the more senior players which contrasts with a character like Garnacho, who has all the arrogance in the world to try and stamp his mark on every game, but doesn't have the consistent technical ability of Amad, and is thus inconsistent for a different reason.
Amad's talent deserves someone to continually encourage him like Mowbray did to be more arrogant and decisive.
I think Amad's skills are more suited to a 10 than a wingback if I'm honest.
Garnacho is a Mane Regen in that his explosiveness and movement will do him good which ever side of the pitch he plays. What Garnacho needs right now is coaching. If he is willing to develop his game and is developed under a good attacking coach he will end up being a very very good winger.
I said last season that we should not make the mistake of giving him too much freedom because it's going to be detrimental to his development. As much as he loves CR7, he isn't CR7 and will never be so good coaching is absolutely necessary to help him develop the technical aspects of his game as Well as decision making. I don't want him to end up like Marcus Rashford.
Weird player really. Scored two excellent goals which both showed real character to execute, but his all round game needs work, especially his passing choices at times.

I don’t really mind those crazy/bad passes he tries. They usually go wrong because him and the player he’s aiming for aren’t on the same wavelength. So he passes it where he thinks someone will be but they don’t move in the way he expects and it looks like an awful pass to nobody. Which will get better the more he plays and builds relationships.
I’d be more worried if he was failing to pass the ball where he wants it to go. And that’s a rarity, hence he has unusually high pass completion rate for a creative player (86% vs 74-75% for Rashford/Garnacho and 72% for Salah)
I actually thought he had a strong game regardless of the goals, he made a couple of bad decisions/passes but he's been out of the team and hasn't found his rhythm yet. His ball carrying and intricate passing is probably the best in our squad.
Him and Mainoo are our standouts, we need more of them.

Amad in possession is one of the best if not the best in the squad. A great game last night, he played like that for Sunderland week in week out. Their fans were gutted when he came back to United.
Yeah Garnacho needs his feet planting back on the ground one way or another. There's nothing wrong with his work ethic but in possession he's trying to play like prime Ronaldo and he isn't good enough at putting the ball in the net to get away with that. Ronaldo wasn't either at 20 but he was a) a much better player and b) in a much better team where there were multiple players capable of getting enough goals to win games.
Diallo should be 1st in the pecking order for me. Garnacho and Rashford should be fighting over the other spot until Diallo has a few poor games or isn't available.
We'll have to see what Almorim does but usually when a new manager comes in any favouritism or built up trust from the old regime is wiped out, and its already different with Ruud as ETH would have probably taken Diallo off before the second goal.

From what I can see, Amorin wants atheticism and technical ability, not many of our players have both.
Amad seems to have both, he tracks back, good on the ball and can play multiple positions, hopefully we get to see him play more regularly.
Diallo wouldn't have started the game under Ten Hag.. and he would never have started Ugarte Casemiro.

Except he didn't lose the ball 20 times. In fact he didn't lose the ball anymore times than any other top level winger who has to take risks. It was a top performance.
Fully agree with this. He had such a weird game but his second goal was quite special.

From sofascore. It's not made up. That's not to say he had a bad game but he did lose possession a lot and his passing was off a bit too. Generally his passing is very good and would be around 80-85% accuracy.
I'll never forget the matchday thread here as it pertains the heavy criticism of Amad Diallo. Tragic stuff.
According to OPTA he lost the ball four times and misplaced thirteen passes. But he also attempted the most dribbles and had the most involvement in the opposition penalty area.
I'm a big fan of Amad but if you take out the 2 goals he had a 5/10 performance at best especially considering the opposition who were mid table Championship level at best. If people think that's a good level for the rest of the season then we have all forgotten what a good winger plays like.
