The RedCafe Boxing Thread

In the end I didn’t bother watching, even though I was up. Ending up playing Fortnite with my daughter instead. I realised there was only one outcome that was acceptable, a Paul victory. Losing to a 60 year old would’ve been the end for this whole shambles of a hype train he has going. Someone getting properly hurt would’ve also been the end of it. So a routine, boring, shambolic Paul victory was the only logical outcome, and so it proved. All meaning he can repeat this nonsense again, with another senior citizen icon.

People seemed legitimately angry at the farce they were presented with, but next time the hype trains starts for Paul vs Holyfield, or whoever they’ll wheel out next, people will tune in and watch. Completely pointless as the result and entire spectacle is pre-determined. Despite what I saw yesterday, I’m still 100% sure if Iron Mike saw Paul in an alley, he’d beat him to death.
He wouldn't - age is a thing and Jake Paul despite being a brat in many ways has worked himself through a different type of journeymen to become a decent fighter.

Not to the level on any serious boxer, but I'd wager he'd do Ok against a lot of the no name journey men that proper boxers face up against in their first few pro fights

Iron Mike? He's just old

Nah, that’s not possible when Jake Paul is involved. He’d never take Froch up on his offer anyway as he knows full well he’d be sparked clean out.
He definitely is in this scenario. Especially when you consider he's married himself

"you're broke salty ass"

Why do American insults always sound so shit?

Can't they just grow up and call people nonces or cnuts?

It might be time to create a thread for this genre, away from real boxing? One is a taint on the other, but the frequency of these bouts is increasing and it has solidified as a thing.

You say that, but then you have Daniel Dubois DMing Jake Paul about fighting.

He probably just isn't able to pull the trigger anymore. Happens to most shot fighters.

I have no problem believing either explanation.

Surprisingly he hasn’t taken up the offer of two world champions to fight them, guess ishowspeed will have to do!

The Zurdo-CBS fight was a great event and the whole card was pretty good (except Barbozzzzz-Ramirezzz). CBS has too much chin for his own good, he was mauled.

Ryan Garcia will do an exhib with R.Anpo (who fought Pacquaio in a similar bout) in Rizin for NYE. 8x2 rounds.

More importantly Inoue has a proper fight on Xmas Eve

This proves nothing and tragically, Paul was the one that was clearly pulling his punches throughout.
Exactly. There's history, aura and meanness and all that jazz, and then there's youth, power, vitality. Those who thought Tyson would win are probably the ones who were insisting Roy Keane would beat up Micah Richards in a fight.

So I’ve decided to watch some actual boxing on dazn. It’s actually refreshing after being forced to engage with that misfit boxing crap. I reckon @Fortitude is right, should have a separate thread

Always a surprise to see an athlete retire before 30 as Sunny Edwards did last night. I wonder whether it's permanent or whether he's just burnt out and needs a break after a series of tough fights, but he was obviously broken mentally speaking to his corner at the end of round 2.

Galal looked pretty good though despite this not being Sunny at his best and dominated - him Vs Teraji is an excellent fight assuming that happens next, and one that hopefully gets some attention.

Massive card announced for February in Saudi :
Bivol-Beterviev 2
Dubois-Parker
Adames-Sheeraz
Ortiz-Madrimov (and they claim Madrimov will also fight Bohachuk in 3 weeks)
C.Smith-Buatsi
Zhang-Kabayel
Shakur Stevenson- Floyd Schofield

Maybe some fights won't happen but this is two main cards worth of content crammed in one (I guess it won't be the event that will fix Saudi pacing).

Does the story of Wladimir’s return have any legs? I wouldn’t mind seeing him one more time in the ring.

Ugh, no thanks... the guy's nearly 50.

Who would he even fight? Quite clearly he wouldn't be competitive with the top names at this stage.

Turki Al-Sheik said it out loud at that WBC presentation yesterday where he and Sulaiman unveiled their Boxing World Cup project.
I think it's seriously being explored.

Im excited and up for it but I try not to think about to make it feel like fight night comes around sooner.

I did think the build up to Fury - Usyk would've started in here by now. Is the interest in the fight low?
The aura that Fury once had has now gone.
Stunk the joint out vs N'ganno and sent to Button Moon by Usyk.
Will get a couple more paydays with Usyk 2 and probably Joshua then off to Celeb Jungleland.

Think Fury has a good chance if he can improve his stamina. Caused Usyk plenty of problems in the first fight but wasn't able to maintain any sort of pressure.

I would prefer Usyk to win, though. I really like him and trust that he will be more active and more generous to fans as champion.

The age is definitely an issue. It's more nostalgic wishful thinking on my part than reasonable idea.

However :), even at 48, given his lifestyle, I guess he could get into pretty good shape relatively easy.

Let's see what will happen in Usyk vs Fury 2. Because I cannot see him fight another Ukrainian. But maybe he would fancy a second shot at Fury or AJ. (I understand how ridiculous that sounds given his age/last professional match in 2017.)

Can’t wait for this fight.

Very strange how many are writing off Fury. The first fight wasn’t a one sided affair like some people have made out, not even close. If he’s more motivated for this one then it makes for a brilliant fight.

Yeah he's already said he wouldn't fight a Ukrainian - but he would be interested in the rematch v Fury or even a shot at Dubois. I don't think he should return - he didn't exactly retire at the top and that was a while ago now.

I can see Fury winning the rematch next week - hopefully then get the trilogy in 2025.

I’m shocked by the lack of build up, not just in here but in the media/society in general.

Maybe it shows the fragmentation of boxing over so many different broadcasters. Or maybe the misfit bullshit is finally catching up to boxings popularity
