First game where he has really looked like his "under 18s self" - understandably been nervous, and given the type of player he is, he needed to settle a bit to start to show what he is about.

I've always believed he has enough to go in to next season as Dorgu's understudy, but today has only reinforced that

He looks better than Dorgu to me.
Much tidier on the ball.

Amass wasn’t ready then
He looked.more than ready in the pre season, at least to come on as a sub in a community shield. Not like we had other fullbacks in the bench. The manager chose to bring a want away winger to play as fullback , who funnily cost us that game as well with a poor defending.

Didn't Pellistri play from the right?

I watched the whole game and was impressed.
I am looking at all the comments about him being lightweight and am wondering at what points in the game he was found wanting in the physical department?

It's a false perception I think.

It's difficult to tell how quick he is though.
I don't think he's lightning but he looks nippy enough.

I think so.
Look at the size of the legs on him!
Give him another couple of seasons and he will be a unit!

I think we’re all going to be pleasantly surprised by Leon too when he links up in the summer

I hope so - I'm looking forward to seeing him in preseason.

Given his extra experience and athleticism, I think Dorgu is ahead of him right at this moment. Although I wouldn't exactly be shocked if Amass is our starter in the not too distant future.

Considering our starting and backup left backs going into this season haven't played 10 games between them for us, having two, possibly even three options at left back going into preseason is a real positive.

I really like how he doesn't feck around out wide, he just gets the ball into the box. He had a couple of really good crosses that he hit first time.

Looks solid defensively too.

The fact that he's baby-faced and looks like a kid is leading to a few false perceptions about his height. He's really not that short at all and he's just average height. Similar height to Mainoo, Eriksen, Shaw, Bruno and a fair few others in the squad, give or take a few centimeters here or there he's in that range just under or around 6 foot. It's not an issue at full back as it would be if he was a centre back.

In today's game he also showed decent upper body strength and he's a stocky lad, but what stands out is his technical ability and ball-carrying. He will get stronger with age and there's no need to ship him out.

None at all for me. I thought his lack of physicality was what was stopping him for getting first team minutes as I know he has excellent ball playing skills. However, I didn't see him get physically overwhelmed in either of his PL or Europa minutes. Seemed to cope really well physically and didn't struggle very much defensively either. I hope he starts as a LWB for the remaining five PL games and gets some minutes in Europa too.

Loved that lovely footwork just at the edge of our box to get out of a press and move the ball forward. Reminds me of a young Shaw. Think if we bad played him earlier, Dorgu may not have been required and we could have had a natural left sided LWB much earlier than January.

We needed reinforcement at WB either way, and Amorim’s already said he likes the fact that Dorgu can play on either side. If Amass keeps putting in displays like that then I can see Amass and Dorgu playing together more often so that Dalot can be rested. Might also mean we’re less inclined to add a RWB in the summer which would help save funds for other parts of the pitch.

Found our Shaw regen!

Really impressed with his technique and the way he uses his body. Hope he starts all EPL games till the end of the season.

Am I crazy in thinking that he should be the starting LWB from now on and Dorgu be his competition/cover?

I can't say if Amass was ready or not, the problem for many of us is that he wasn't given game time at all, like at all since pre season, suddenly, after starting twice the PL and being subbed UEL, he looks quality and seems ready to either start games or be a solid option from the bench, the question should be why was he not even given sub appearances in some of the easy games in the cups this season.

I don't know how to quite describe it but the way he moves reminds me that of a GAA footballer or a rugby union winger.

Hard not to think we could have got someone better than dorgu if we waited until summer

Really impressed by him again yesterday - at no point did I think he was physically lacking. Showed great strength and he’s obviously technically very very good.

According to some in this thread he wasnt ready after the Newcastle game, Now he is.
Football fans eh, you're only as good as your last game.
I’m talking about people wanting to throw him in when he was 16 and 17. It would have done him no favours. At 18 you can see he’s filling out and ready for minutes

Let us not forget our previous manager played pellestri as a full back in a community shield ahead of amass.
Our previous manager also sidelined Amad in favor of his brazilian flop but don’t let that get into the way of his apologists.

He doesn’t look any different to me than he was a year ago, and no he doesn’t look small now either.

Whenever I go into this thread, I get inundated with ads for Manscaped.

What a player we got at our hands. A very improved version of Shaw when Shaw was at his age. Got a wicked delivery and not too weak physically either. Will only grow stronger. I think we don’t have to go for a left wing back or left winger in the market.

Omari Forson being favoured was the more unforgivable one. Genuinely incredible looking back.

very good low centre of gravity, strong core, pretty much like Luke Shaw. It doesn't matter he's smaller, although it would help in aerial duels. Showed a good anticipation and won a nice duel on the half way line once though which seems promising to me.

The lower build can help with dribbling, Lahm didn't have a problem to become one of the best fullbacks with the lack of height. Composure and strong core is much more important.

A very improved version of Shaw? Are you suggesting he is better than Shaw was at the same age?

Good lad. Wish he was taller which is important for defending corners. Hope he continues to improve moving the ball forward and crossing them in.

Tbh that's pushing it. Shaw was electric as a youngster, crazy pace and even though he was skinnier than he was now, he still had the strength. There's a reason he was being compare to Young Bale.

Shaw was on a different level at the same age

Had a few great highlight moments yesterday which will help his confidence...we might see a nice battle between Dorgu and Amass in the last month or so of the season.

Shaw made PFA TOTY at 18. Shaw was a phenom, really.
