That's a shame, I thought he'd be a great addition for the price. It's not the end of the world we missed out though, just means we will have to go for a slightly riskier option when it comes to adpating to the league or pay a premium for someone in the league. I'd prefer the former when I see the options in the league.

Disappointing. I'm confident he will go on to prove a lot of people wrong.

On that note, we've now missed out on two exciting talents to Chelsea.

I welcomed the signing but not on its own. I felt that we'd sign him and only him and it would be an enormous gamble. We need to pivot away quickly and get a strong, proven striker. Mateta and Osimhen are the standouts for me as Gyokeres won't be happening

He was only ever really a good option because of the price, especially compared to what else is out there.

I wonder if he played much with Palmer in the Man City academy.

Well I imagine that what someone mentioned about Maresca is correct and that he backs himself and trusts the manager he will be first choice under him.

That though relies on Maresca being the manager, and we know what Chelsea can be like in terms of being trigger happy.

I just wonder what Chelsea's ambitions really are.. keep signing potentials rather than someone who can help them challenge for the league now.

He probably makes a good choice because coming to United would not suit him, the fans dont want him, so will be on his back straight away whereas Chelsea fans actually dont mind signing him.

Any player that joins this Chelsea regime feels like a bullet dodged tbh. I know we're a mess as well, but I don't see how footballers are looking at the Todd Boehly financial olympics merrygoround and thinking: "there's a solid move for my career".
They are building one of the best young squads in Europe. If it works out they will be a force for years. Their future looks far more promising than ours.

The way I see it is:

Chelsea can be very pleased with the value they are getting in this deal.

I don’t however think that he was the answer to our problems and therefore could easily have been a £30m mistake for us.

Therefore Wilcox couldn't persuade his own man to join? Ashworth must be somewhere laughing at him. The Ceo's pet will better come out with a quick solution to this

Considering the number of clubs willing to sign him and probably make him their starting striker, I think it's clear that he's very highly rated in the PL. He is still raw in areas and perhaps more potential than ability but he's also one of those that could end up being an instant hit.

Chelsea has fecked us twice now with Quenda and now Delap.

Losing out on players will happen if you have no Champions League football to offer. There's a lot to be said for securing at least European football of some sort before starting a new project like we did this season. In the past we just offered players huge salaries to make up for it, the new regime are opposed to that type of thinking though.

Ah well. I wonder who's next on the list - Mateta was rumoured? I think as an immediate improvement he'd be a better shout than Delap, but I wonder if he's affordable / gettable.

Outside of that, God knows. Let's hope we've got some hidden gems scouted out..

What the feck does this even mean?! Maresca was at City with him as well.

Get a hold of yourself.

Yet if we did that there’d be no patience whatsoever

Not bothered about him. It’s actually a bullet dodged for us. I hope we swiftly move
Towards the next target. I would rather we utilize the 30m and get Muembo from Brentford. We had the likes of Ronaldinho, Benzema, Ozil, Kroos, Fabregas, Thiago, Hazard etc who we were close to signing and could not so players like him and Muembo not signing will not really bother me. Hopefully we have a good replacement lined up and move for him.

I'd prefer Mateta at Chelsea as well but he'd cost more than double Delap.

I don't know as Chelsea are massive fans of Jackson. I'm sure I've read that they believe Jackson to be a major star in the making.

Yeah and they've done it by finding a way to circumvent every financial rule possible to sign all these players. I don't think we can be certain what the future holds for them with all that private equity involved.

Mbeumo to Newcastle would be a blow now

Probably went to sort this deal out as soon as they saw that 40 yard touch from Jackson on the 2v1 counter attack last night.

Jackson looks to be on an upward trajectory imo. Was raw when he arrived, but looks to have more tools than Delap.

I dunno, just feel like Delap will end up backup there and move on anyway. I think the same thing would have happened at United mind, we'd eventually want someone better. He'd have been guaranteed far more minutes now though

I don’t think he’s the ultimate solution for us but I do I think he’ll slot into the squad well for that price. We just have no depth beyond Jackson and that needed addressing.

If he overtakes Jackson and proves people wrong then it’s a bargain. If not i’m fairly sure we’d redeem most of what we paid in a couple of years

It hopefully accelerates our interest. If we had earmarked funds for Delap and that was the priority you’d hope they would now shift the Mbeumo and he won’t require a Garnacho/Rashford/Antony/Sancho sale to fund it.

Woof big RIP that one for us. Going to be a disaster if we don't sign a CF. Really think it's the difference between actually improving as a club and the manager getting the sack and the next one flopping too. Not going anywhere without a CF I don't care what else we address in the team.

I just don't see that much strategy and discipline in what they're doing. Next summer they'll be throwing cash around at 25 more players and half the lads they've filled this squad with will fall by the way.
